Then head back to the perfectly located Fairmont Mayakoba for comfortable rooms and modem Mexican cuisine.

  • 27、   One piece of advice I give young people is that they don't have to decide what they want to do for the rest of their life at age 22. Just think of all the jobs that didn’t exist 10 years ago and what might exist 10 years from now.

My daughter is a nurse practitioner(从业者). But she didn’t start there when she went to college. She got her undergraduate degree in hotel and restaurant management with a minor(辅修课程) in business. She wanted to find a job in travel and tourism and see the world. On graduation day she looked at me and said, “Mom, I don’t know what I’m going to do with my life that’s meaningful, but I don’t think it' s travel and tourism”. I looked at her and said, “Just get a job and then figure it out.”

She struggled for a year or two after college with a couple of different jobs including work in the travel industry for a short time. But she started thinking early on after graduation about becoming a nurse. Whenever she talked to me about it, I told her she’d be a great nurse-super organized, able to multitask better than anyone I knew, with amazing people skills. But I also told her that she’d have to work hard and study the sciences if she wanted to be a nurse.

She considered her choices and decided to enter a combined nursing/nurse practitioner program getting her second bachelor’s degree then her master’s. She had found her passion(热衷的爱好)!Her nursing career since 2005 has progressed. She now has a mix of leadership, administrative, and clinical work.

Do you know what your passion is? Have you found it in your work or are you still searching for it?

1How did the author react to her daughter’s words on graduation day?

A.She recommended a job to her daughter.

B.She was worried about her daughter’s future.

C.She was angry about her daughter’s uncertainty.

D.She advised her daughter to find answers in practice.

2What was the author’s attitude toward her daughter’s decision to become a nurse?

    A.Cautious. B.Favorable.

    C.Unconcerned. D.Disappointed.

3What do we know about the author’s daughter?

A.She has traveled around the world.

B.She has figured out what she loves to do.

C.She was unsuccessful in her nursing career.

D.She was unwilling to follow her mother’s suggestion.

4How does the author support her main idea?

A.By listing facts. B.By analyzing causes.

    C.By making a comparison. D.By providing a typical example.

  • 28、Technology is more than an abstract concept associated with advanced tools and systems. It also shapes the way people behave, grow and develop, both within their own lives and in their relationships with others. While technology has developed over thousands of years, the last century has seen an explosion in technology that has influenced fundamental changes in how humans see the world and interact with others. Specifically, the Internet and mobile devices have completely changed the way people interact with each other. There has been a debate going on whether technology is benefiting human communication or ruining it.

Undoubtedly, technology is helping people build newer and necessary communication skills. In business, office employees and managers use technology to send emails to one another, which is considered a communication skill. On social media, just share a few of your images and people start communicating on and about your images according to their viewpoint. With the outbreak of COVID-19, in order to work on the projects, the students use their phones to reach their teachers and classmates.

However, technology is sometimes considered to disconnect people from others around them. With cell phones, most people think that it’s easier and more convenient to text instead of meeting in person. Lucas Lengacher, an undergraduate from Huntington University, claims in his article that at least 42.91% people respond to messages immediately yet only 2.83% people don’t check their phones in the morning. In his research he “found that almost 60 percent of people felt disconnected from others around when they were on their phones”.

【1】Which has basically influenced human interaction according to the passage?

    A.People's value.

    B.Social systems.

    C.Mobile devices.

    D.Communication skills.

【2】How is the idea of paragraph 2 supported?

    A.By analyzing data.

    B.By providing cases.

    C.By defining a concept

    D.By making comparisons.

    【3】What does Lucas’s research find?

A.Phones are getting more and more popular.

B.Phones disconnect us when we are together.

C.People are eager for personal communication.

D.People communicate less because of physical distance.

【4】What is the author’s attitude to technology?

    A.Disappointed.

    B.Positive.

    C.Doubtful

    D.Objective

  • 29、   Some successful brands are memorable for their creativity. They convey accurate information to us. However, some of these origins are very interesting.

    Google

The world’s largest search engine has developed a brand. Its founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin knew their company’s potential when they were freshmen at Stanford. The original plan was to name it “googol”, which meant “a huge number”, but Larry Page misspelled it as “Google”. Both the site and the company registered “Google”. However, this error distinguishes “Google” from other search engines.

    McDonald’s

The original name came from the last name of the inventors: Maurice “Mac” and Richard “Dick” McDonald. Before 1940, they owned and operated a successful restaurant, but once World War II was over, they decided to try a new system to reduce the time people spent waiting for their food. So the first McDonald’s opened in 1948. Over time, their simple and bright colors have made it one of the most recognizable symbols on the earth.

    Rolex

Hans Wilsdorf, founder of the Rolex brand, says he wants a short watch name to pronounce easily. After combining all the letters and coming up with 100 possible names, none of them fit the bill. But a trip on a horse-drawn ride changed the fate of his company, because a “genius”, as he called it, whispered the word “Rolex” into his ear.

    IKEA

Founded in 1943, IKEA went from selling all kinds of objects to becoming the benchmark of Swedish creativity worldwide with its furniture and facilitates packaging. The word IKEA is a combination of the first letters of founder’s first name and last name: Ingvar Kamprad, the farm where he grew up: Elmtaryd, and the town in southern Sweden where it was located: Agunnaryd.

1What contributed to the brand “Google”?

    A.The company’s plan. B.Larry Page’s mistake.

    C.The company’s potential. D.Sergey Brin’s creation.

2What was the original intention of McDonald’s?

    A.To earn more money.

B.To create simple and bright colors.

    C.To offer convenience for customers.

D.To expand the business to the world.

3Which brand has something to do with the founder’s hometown?

The series is the first time a professional 9-dan Go player has taken on a computer, and Lee is 2 for a $1 million prize.

“I was very surprised,”said Lee after the match.“I didn’t expect to lose. But I didn’t think AlphaGo would play the game in such a perfect manner.”DeepMind founder Demis Hassabis expressed“huge 3 for Lee Se-dol and his amazing skills.”calling the game“hugely exciting”and“very tense.”Team lead David Silver said it was an“amazing game of Go that really pushed AlphaGo to its 4.”

Go is an ancient Chinese board game that has long been considered one of the great 5faced by AI. While computer programs ow best the world’s leading human players of games like checkers and chess, the high level of intuition and 6required by Go has made it tough for computers to crack. DeepMind’s AlphaGo program is the most 7effort yet, using a complex system of deep neural networks and machine learning; it beat European champion Fan Hui last year, but Lee Se-dol is another 8 rival entirely.

“I don’t regret accepting this challenge,”said Lee.“I am in shock, I admit that, but what’s done is done. I enjoyed this game and look forward to the next. I think I failed on the opening layout so if I do a better job on the opening aspect I think I will be able to increase my 9 of winning.”Lee was surprised both by how strong AlphaGo’s opening was, and by some 10moves.

Tablets are really useful devices, but their big screens always make them a burden to carry around without a bag. Wouldn’t it be great if there were a phone with the powers of a tablet that could be folded up and fit 1 into the hand?

Now something like a tablet-shaped but fold-able phone is about to become 2. In February, South Korean electronics company Samsung and China’s Huawei both unveiled fold-able phones Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X 3. Mobile phone use has entered the “fold-able future”, The Verge noted.

The technology could change our lives in significant ways. These devices, due to their 4 screens, give us the larger screens we want. Meanwhile, they still fit easily into the pocket. As USA Today noted, they’re “the 5 of a small tablets and smart-phone, all in a single device”.

The technology could 6 other devices too. For example, we could make TVs that stick to walls like posters, or fold up easily to hide away in drawers. In crowded modem cities, they will help us to 7 available space.

In a keynote address, Samsung’s senior vice president of mobile product marketing, Justin Denison, called the fold-able screen “the 8 for the smart-phone of tomorrow.” “It’s a balank canvas for us to do something beautiful together,” he said.

So is there nothing to stand in the way of the fold-able future?

According to tech news website Android authority, the necessary displays were difficult to produce. In 2012, nine out of every to OLED screens produced were 9. Today, that 10 percent rate has been improved to between 50 and 90 percent. However, at present these fold-able devices are expensive. For example, the price of Huawei Mate X is 17,500 RMB. That’s a price that may 10 the majority of people.

But if the fold-able device isn’t going to change the world overnight, there is no doubt that it is coming.

Patrick Moor-head, an industry analyst told The Verge, “Few are debating if fold-able or roll-able mobile displays are the future of smart-phones; the only question is when and by whom.”

The Internet E-commerce and globalization are making a new economic age possible. In the future, capitalist markets will largely be replaced by a new kind of economic system based on 1 relationships, contractual arrangements and access rights.

Has the quality of our lives at work, at home and in our communities increased in direct proportion to all the new Internet and business-to-business Internet services being introduced into our lives? I have asked this question of hundreds of CEOs and corporate executives in Europe and the United States. Surprisingly, virtually everyone has said, “No, quiet 2.” They say they are working longer hours, feel more stressed, are more impatient, and are even less civil in their dealings with colleagues and friends-not to mention strangers. And what’s more revealing, they place much of the blame on the very same technologies they are so 3 supporting.

The technological leader promised us that access would make life more convenient. Instead, the very technological wonders that were supposed to 4 us have begun to enslave us in a web of connections from which there seems to be no easy 5.

If an earlier generation was preoccupied with the quest to enclose a vast 6 land, the .com generation, it seems, is more caught up in the colonization of time. Every spare moment of our time is being filled with some form of commercial connection, making time itself the 7 of all resources.

And while we have created every kind of labor-and time-saving device to service our needs, we are beginning to feel like we have less time available to us than any other humans in history. Maybe we need to ask what kinds of connections really 8 in the e-economy age. If this new technology 9 is only about super efficiency, then we risk losing something even precious than time-our sense of what it means to be a(n) 10 human being.

One winter Sunday, my little sister, Colleen, and I built the greatest snowman ever. We gave him a carrot nose, beautiful hat, cozy scarf and gloves. He was a masterpiece(杰作).

The next morning when looking outside, we smiled lovingly at him over our meal. We gave him a high five as we passed by on our way to school. A lot of kids went past our house, so he was the hot topic at our school that morning. It was our pride

The day dragged on until finally we could rush home. But as our yard came into sight, we saw something wrong. The snowman was goneWe only found a broken stick here, a torn glove there and balls of snow everywhere. Worst of all, the snowman’s once-proud carrot nose lay limp(无力的)and half-eaten.

What had happenedWe were both astonished and angry. But then, we were only kids, who wouldn’t have anything take away our happiness. Actually we knew only one thing: Our snowman would rise again. And so we rebuilt him.

The next day we came home to find another mess on the front lawn(草坪). For the rest of the week, the destruction was repeated daily. Each afternoon we’d return to find our snowman had fallen apart, and then we built again.

By Saturday morning, we had a plan. We borrowed a really big bucket (水桶)from Mom, filled it with water and left it outside. The next morning. it was frozen solid. We packed snow all around the ice block as the base (底座)of the snowman. Then we built the other parts of it once again The trap was set, and we wailed for the snowman bullies(破坏者) to come

  • 40、阅读下面材料,   根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,   使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Mai Lin wasn’t doing well enough at school, or at least she wasn’t satisfied with herself. She wished she could do better.

“Let’s review the material we learned in the last unit,” the history teacher said. “Who can tell us what caused the War of 1812?” Mai Lin sat at her desk, staring ahead. She hoped the teacher wouldn’t call her name. They hadn’t studied the War of 1812 at her old school and she didn’t know the answer.

“Alison?” the teacher asked instead. Oh, perfect, Mai Lin thought. Of course Alison would have the answer. She seemed to have all the answers. Alison was the most popular girl in school – always surrounded by millions of boyfriends, best friends, and others. She was like a brilliant sun.

Mai Lin hadn’t made one or two friends of her own so far. Her old school was small and low-key, but a shy person like Mai Lin had a chance there. This new school, however, seemed as big as an airport to Mai Lin, and it seemed very hard to get around in it. She still got lost sometimes in the school.

Mai Lin frowned (皱眉) as Alison answered the teacher’s question. Alison probably never got lost, Mai Lin thought to herself. You could probably put Alison down in the middle of a desert, and within five minutes she’d be able to tell you the best way to get home.

History class finally ended, and Mai Lin headed for the gym. The class had been playing basketball. Alison, who was as tall and thin and attractive as a tree, was very good at it. Beside her, Mai Lin felt like a very small and foolish ant. Today, however, the gym teacher pointed to a thick rope hanging from the ceiling and said, “Everybody! You’re going to climb this rope today.”

    注意:

    1.续写词数应为 150 左右;

Hearing the teacher’s words, Mai Lin smiled.
