二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、The World Economic Forum predicts the global population will hit 9.8 billion by 2050, which means we might need to grow as much as double the amount of food we do today and do it without significantly consuming limited resources such as land and water.

But there are reasons to be positive. Historically, human intelligence has risen to the population challenge. 8,000 years ago in the first agricultural revolution, the plough (犁) transformed productivity. In the 1 800s, inventions such as the seed drill brought a degree of mechanization to farming. Then, in the mid-20th century, there were major breakthroughs in artificial fertilizer and plant science.

Now, we are entering a fourth age of agriculture. Innovation is exploding. The digital transformation of agriculture is not theory. It’s real. And it’s having a huge impact across all aspects of farming.

In April 2020, Chinese drone (无人机) maker XAG organized a rice seeding demonstration in Guangdong province. First, it invited two workers to spread 5kg of rice seeds the traditional way- by wading across 1,200 square metres of waterlogged field. The laborious process took 25 minutes. Then it unleashed (释放) its XAG XPlanet drone on the same task. The unmanned aerial system followed a pre-programmed route and threw rice seeds from the air. It completed the job in 120 seconds. XAG claims its system can use up to 90 per cent less water and 30 percent fewer chemicals than traditional technique.

Barcelona-based startup Faromatics has also attracted a lot of attention for its EU-funded invention: a robot called the ChickenBoy. It lets chicken farmers autonomously monitor their stock. The robot glides along the ceiling and uses a set of sensors to measure temperature, air quality, light and sound in poultry housing. Farmers can use a cloud platform to set the ChiekenBoy to send mobile alerts.

The task of feeding 9.8 billion mouths by 2050 is one of the greatest facing humanity, but thanks to technology, there is good reason to be confident for the future.

【1】What is the purpose of paragraph 2?

A.To express the author’s confidence in the human wisdom.

B.To tell us some challenges in the agricultural development.

C.To show us the present situation of the world food shortage.

D.To call on the government to take some effective measures.

【2】What is the advantage of XAG XPlanet drone?

A.It saves more money than the manual seeding.

B.It’s more efficient and environmentally friendly.

C.It can rapidly reduce wastage and improve yields.

D.It helps farmers make better decisions about seeding.

【3】What can be inferred about the ChickenBoy?

A.Its system needs to be improved.

B.It aims to attract farmers’ attention,

    C.It was invented y a chicken farmer.

D.It helps farmers look after the chicken.

【4】What does “human intelligence” refer to in the passage?

    A.Smart farming.

    B.Agricultural revolution.

    C.Plant science.

    D.Artificial intelligence.

  • 22、Sometime back, after a six-year-old lioness named Magigi repeatedly killed cattle, Botswana authorities caught and moved her into Central Kalahari Game Reserve, far from people. Magigi spent most of her time within the reserved protective boundaries, but after a year she escaped outside and was shot dead by a farmer. New research Maude and his colleagues have conducted confirms that Magigi's unfortunate story is common for many relocated lions. For decades, wildlife managers in a number of African countries have used such a kind way to deal with lions that repeatedly kill livestock (牲畜).But the new research shows that after lions are moved, most continue to kill livestock and endanger villagers' living.

Across Africa, lion numbers have fallen by 43 percent in the past two decades, to as few as 23,000 animals today. About 3,000 remain in Botswana. The sharp declines are primarily driven by development-lions now occupy just 8 percent of their historic habitat. With less space set aside for conservation, lions are more frequently coming into contact with humans. These are usually farms, expanding around the edges of the protected areas. The lions eat livestock, which negatively impacts the livelihood of the farmers in these rural areas. Without a proper way to prevent these attacks, the dinners often turn to deadly force, shooting or poisoning the lions, which has resulted in the decrease in lion population.

Rather than trying to move lions, wildlife conservationist Glyn Maude says, emphasis should be placed on reducing the chances of lions encountering and killing livestock in the first place. Many preventative measures are being tested in various African countries, including hiring lion guardians (护卫者) to monitor these big cats, creating lion-proof fences, sending out lion text alerts, and teaching herders to keep livestock away from high-risk areas.

【1】Why was Magigi moved to a reserve?

A.To stop her from being caught.

B.To prevent her from killing cattle.

C.To get her to stay with her family.

D.To train her to get along with people.

【2】What is the major reason for the decline in the lion population in Africa?

    A.Illegal wildlife trade.

    B.Human-lion conflict.

    C.A natural disaster.

D.The lack of food in their habitat.

【3】What can we infer from Maude's words in the last paragraph?

A.Lions will be fenced in to avoid meeting people.

B.The relocation of lions has proven to be effective.

C.Prevention is the cure for lions' attacking livestock.

D.It's impossible for lions to live with humans in harmony.

【4】Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

    A.Big Cats' Relocation Proving Deadly

B.Lions Shot Dead after Attacking a Man

C.The Tragic Story of a Magical Lioness

D.Conservation Status of the African Lion

  • 24、   For people, many other animals, family matters. Consider how many jobs go to relatives. Or how an ant will cruelly attack intruder (入侵的) ants but rescue injured, closely related nest-mates. There are good evolutionary reasons to aid relatives, after all. Now, it seems, family feelings may stir in plants as well.

A Canadian biologist planted the seed of the idea more than a decade ago, but many plant biologists regarded it as heretical-plants lack the nervous systems that enable animals to recognize kin (家族), so how can they know their relatives? But with a series of recent findings, the belief that plants really do care for their most genetically close peers-in a quiet, planty way-is taking root. Some species control how far their roots spread, others change how many flowers they produce, and a few tilt (倾斜) or shift their leaves to minimize shading of neighboring plants, favoring related individuals.

“We need to recognize that plants not only sense whether it’s light or dark or if they’ve been touched, but also whom they are interacting with,” says Susan Dudley, a plant evolutionary ecologist, whose early plant kin recognition studies sparked the interest of many scientists.

Beyond broadening views of plant behavior, the new work may have a practical side. In September 2018, a team in China reported that rice planted with kin grows better, a finding that suggested family ties can be used to improve crop yields. “It seems anytime anyone looks for it, they find a kin effect,” says Andre Kessler, a chemical ecologist at Cornell University.

1Why are ants mentioned in the first paragraph?

A.To show how cruel ants are to their enemies.

B.To lay foundation for the idea of plants’ family feelings.

C.To introduce the topic of how family matters to animals.

D.To explain why people usually give more jobs to their relatives.

2Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “heretical” in paragraph 2?

    A.Indescribable. B.Understandable. C.Impossible. D.Traditional.

3What may be the plants’ way of expressing their care for relatives?

A.They stop producing flowers to avoid competition.

B.They spread their roots far so as to protect their peers.

C.They care for their injured peers by silently taking roots.

D.They move their leaves to share sunlight with their close peers.

4What can be inferred from the text?

A.Different plants mustn’t be planted together.

B.Corn planted with corn can produce more than that with rice.

C.China has put the idea into wide practice and achieved great success.

D.The closer rice is planted with their relatives the more they will produce.

  • 25、Has someone ever told you something that made you doubt your own memory or judgment? If so, you may be a ______ of gaslighting. “Gaslighting” is a kind of psychological abuse to gain ______ over others by purposely making other people think they’re wrong even when they’re right. The term comes from Patrick Hamilton’s play in 1938. Lead character Jack Manningham seeks to convince his wife Bella that she is ______, by saying she is imagining the dimming (变暗) of the gas light in their home, when it was actually he who lowered the brightness of the light.

Gaslighting is initially used to talk about what happens in romantic relationships. However, many individuals also experience gaslighting at work. ______, a recent survey has found that 58% of the respondents said they have experienced gaslighting at work. It’s ______ since gaslighting usually involves a power relationship and a need to control others. In the workplace, the ______ between a boss and his employee can be the perfect breeding (滋生的) ground for this type of behavior. Your boss might tell you to handle an assignment in a certain way, but when you do, he gets ______ and says it wasn’t what he wanted. It makes you feel like your memory is ______. In other situations, your boss may exclude you from a meeting ______ and when you ask him about it, he might accuse you of being too sensitive instead of answering your question directly.

In order to find out whether your boss’s behavior really ______ gaslighting or he is just a poor communicator, you could write down your experiences and ask yourself what really happened, what his motives might have been, and how your emotion was ______. But always be careful because gaslighters know how to fly under the radar (雷达). They are skilled at weakening an employee’s confidence and sense of reality in a clever and ______ way.

To protect yourself, at the end of the conversation with your boss, repeat back what you heard and follow up with an e-mail restating the main points, ______ the interactions between you two. But don’t get your hopes high that this will automatically solve the problem, Robin Stern, author of The Gaslight Effect, warns, because it’s hard to get a gaslighter to ______ his behavior pattern. If things don’t improve, you may want to consider getting out of the gaslighting situation by looking for a new position. It may be one of the best things you can do for your ______ well-being.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇 60 词左右的内容概要。

Two years ago, Li Yuhua's daughter taught her how to shop online. Since then, the 51-year-old farmer in Wushan has been a regular online shopper. Shoppers like Li Yuhua are the new target for China's ecommerce giants, including Alibaba Group, which operates the Taobao platform, and JD.com. Rural China added 3 million more Internet users in the first half, taking the total number to 225 million, or 26.3%, of the country's total Internet population of 854 million, according to a report on rural ecommerce development released last week by the China International Electronic Commerce Center. That helped improve rural online sales in the first half of the year by 21% to 777.1 billion yuan (US$109.6 billion), outpacing the national growth rate by 3.2 percentage points.

'However, it is a little bit early to say that China's ecommerce battlefield is moving to rural China, ' said Chen Tao, a senior analyst at consultancy Analysys. Unlike urban residents, most rural Chinese haven’t experienced ecommerce shopping. While that provides online platforms with one of the last undeveloped markets for ecommerce, progress has been slow due to the lack of infrastructure(基础设施)and logistics(物流)support.

To address that problem, China's second-largest ecommerce operator, JD.com hired more deliverymen and tested drone(无人机) delivery services to improve service in rural China. Alibaba Group, China's largest ecommerce player, announced in April last year that it had invested US$717 million in Huitongda Network Co., which helps to boost sales in 15,000 towns across 18 provinces.

Another inhibiting factor in the development of rural ecommerce is the income gap. In 2018, annual per capita disposable income(人均可支配收入)in rural areas was 14,600 yuan (US$2,065) compared with 39,300 yuan (US$5,559) in cities. 'Lower disposable incomes in rural areas limit the consumption,' said analyst Chen. 'It also takes time to educate rural residents to accept ecommerce services as most of them are new to online. There is still a long way to go to popularize online shopping in rural China.'
