21、 Have you ever sat down in a restaurant and felt instantly drawn to a particular dish on the menu? The reason might be something as simple as that you love the dish's main ingredient, but it's often more than that.
Scientists are finding that the way food is presented can make a big difference. In one study, for example, party guests were given a glass of a drink called mango lassi. Half the guests were told the lassi was healthy. The rest were told it was unhealthy. Those who had the “healthy” drink considered it 55% less enjoyable than those who drank the “unhealthy” one, though the drinks were exactly the same.
People's choices around what to eat are influenced by lots of small factors unconsciously. But we can make those choices more conscious by arming ourselves with information.
Agriculture accounts for about 25% of all greenhouse gas emissions (排放) warming the planet. But not all foods have equal influences. Globally, the production of animal-based foods accounts for about two-thirds of agricultural emissions, while plant-based foods generally have lower environmental influences.
Increasing the share of plant-based foods in our diets is therefore a key step in reducing agriculture's pressure on climate. That doesn't mean giving up meat, though. We can eat less animal-based food and more plants.
By examining how food decisions are made, scientists have learned that simple pushes can change people's behavior in big ways. Restaurants, hotels, universities, and even cities have begun applying the latest behavioral science to help consumers cut their carbon footprint by choosing more sustainable (可持续的) foods. Burger King began a trial of the plant-based Impossible Burger. At Seattle Pacific University, campus food service provider Sodexo doubled the size of its plant-rich food station.

22、 When Chery Hanbury stepped outside her home the morning after Hurricane Irma swept through her Bradenton, Florida, neighborhood, she expected to see a few of her neighbors out surveying the damage, too, and cleaning up debris. What she did not expect to see was an actual superhero at work.
But that's exactly what she spotted when a man in a red and blue outfit using a chainsaw to cut a tree that had fallen across her road caught her attention 'I thought, OMG! Spider-Man! ' she said. 'I was shocked. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.'
Hanbury called her family outside to see too, and her husband Alan was able to snap two pictures of the mysterious good Samaritan. "Spider-Man worked the tree, then swung off and jumped in his little black pickup with a friend and flew off " said Hanbury. 'I do not know why he was dressed as Spider-Man, nor do I know the name or identity of the masked man. '
Hanbury's own two daughters, Ciara, 22, and Skye, 21, are grown, and most of the neighborhood withdrew before the storm, so unfortunately, no children were around to witness the Spider-Man in action. However, Hanbury said he was a welcome surprise and provided a laugh that lifted the spirits of those who experienced the scary storm. "It was a silver lining after waiting a long week for the hurricane to arrive, she said. 'People were terrified and exhausted.'
Thankfully, the hurricane wasn't as bad as it was predicted for Hanbury's area. 'We still have lots of people without power, and my neighbors' generators (发电机) are running at the moment. But for the most part, we just have high numbers of trees and power lines down with much debris, but everyone is safe! ' she said
Now that her photos are going viral(疯传), Hanbury hopes Spider-Man knows he is cheering the spirits of people in Bradenton and around the world. 'To Spider-Man, I would like to say, 'Thank you! '' she said. 'I'm glad we have real-life heroes. '

23、It’s late in the evening, time to close the book and turn off the computer. You’re done for the day. What you may not realize, however, is that the learning process actually continues in your dreams.
It might sound like science fiction, but researchers are increasingly focusing on the relationship between the knowledge and skills our brains absorb during the day and the often strange imaginings they generate at night. Scientists have found that dreaming about a task we’ve learned is associated with improved performance in that activity (suggesting that there’s some truth to the popular idea that we’re “getting” a foreign language once we begin dreaming in it). What’s more, dreaming may be an essential part of understanding, organizing and retaining what we learn. While we sleep, research indicates, the brain replays the patterns of activity it experienced during waking hours, allowing us to enter what one psychologist calls a neural virtual reality.
A vivid example of such replay can be seen in a video researchers made recently about sleep disorders. They taught a series of dance moves to patients suffering from sleepwalking and related conditions. They then videotaped the subjects as they slept. Lying in bed, eyes closed, one female patient on the tape performed the dance moves she learned earlier — “the first direct and unambiguous demonstration of behavioral replay of a recently learned skill during human sleep, ” writes lead author Delphine Oudiette.
Of course, most of us are not quite so energetic during sleep — but our brains are busy nonetheless. While our bodies are at rest, scientists theorize, our brains are extracting what’s important from the information and events we’ve recently encountered, then integrating that data into the vast store of what we already know—perhaps explaining why dreams are such an odd mixture of fresh experiences and old memories. A dream about something we’ve just learned seems to be a sign that the new knowledge has been processed effectively. In a 2010 study published in the journal Current Biology, researchers at Harvard Medical School reported that college students who dreamed about a computer maze task they had learned showed a 10-fold improvement in their ability to navigate the maze compared to participants who did not dream about the task.
Robert Stickgold, one of the Harvard researchers, suggests that studying right before bedtime or taking a nap following a study session in the afternoon might increase the odds of dreaming about the material. Think about that as your head hits the pillow tonight.
【1】What happens when one enters a dream state?
A.The body continues to act as if the sleeper were awake.
B.The neural activity of the brain will become more intense.
C.The brain once again experiences the learning activities of the day.
D.The brain behaves as if it were playing a virtual reality video game.
【2】What does the brain do while we are sleeping?
A.It replaces old information with new material.
B.It processes and absorbs newly acquired data.
C.It classifies information and places it in different files.
D.It systematizes all the information collected during the day.
【3】Which of the following can enhance learning according to Robert Stickgold?
A.Staying up late before finally going to bed.
B.Having a period of sleep right after studying.
C.Having a dream about anything you are interested in.
D.Thinking about the chances of dreaming about the material.
【4】What is the text mainly about?

B.Why people learn more after sleeping.
C.What time students should study and sleep.
D.How dreaming may lead to improved learning outcomes.
24、A city in Denmark is about to become the first in the world to provide most of its citizens with fresh water using only the energy created from household wastewater.
The Marselisborg Wastewater Treatment Plant (MWTP) in Aarhus has undergone improvements that mean it can now produce more than 150 percent of the electricity needed to run the plant. The extra power can be used to pump drinking water around the city. As well as regularly powering the entire water system of 200, 000 people living in the inner city area, any unwanted electricity could be sold into the local power network.
The plant produces energy from the biogas which creates out of household wastewater. Carbon is removed from the wastewater and pumped into digesters (沼气池) kept at 38℃ filled with bacteria. These produce biogas — mostly methane — that is then burned to make heat and electricity.
Upgrading the facilities in Marselisborg required nearly €3 million, but Aarhus Water expects that to be recovered in just five years. Other cities in Denmark, including Copenhagen, have been trying to copy the example of Aarhus.
When talking about copying Denmark’s experience, Molly Walton, energy analyst at International Energy Agency, says, scientists and engineers would firstly have to improve energy efficiency; and it requires an enormous amount of money that could considerably increase the price of the water. Moreover, to work, the wastewater plant needs to be big enough to produce enough biogas, and even the wastewater has to be the right-mix. If it’s watered down by much storm or groundwater, it will be almost impossible to recover energy, Walton says.
With rising global temperatures, more energy will be needed to provide fresh water from other sources such as seawater. The city’s action may not solve the problems, but it is a big step in the right direction.
【1】What can we learn about the city Aarhus?

A.Doubtful.
B.Negative.
C.Uninterested.
D.Positive.
【4】What does the passage mainly tell us?

B.MWTP has improved the processing of biogas.
C.A plant in Aarhus turns wastewater into energy.
D.The water service in Aarhus needs more energy.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In December 2020, Flores Gonzalez had her 4-year-olds, Luna and Gianella, tie their lists to two balloons and release them into the sky above their home in Liberal, Kansas. It was their way of reaching Santa Claus.
Flores Gonzalez thought it was important to do something special for her daughters because of the hard year they had during the pandemic (大流行病). The schools were shut down and she was out of work for more than two months. Everyone seemed to be in low spirits. She wanted to cheer the family up and wanted the girls to feel that 2020 was another year spent with mom making beautiful memories. It was never with the purpose that someone would find the balloons. She thought the balloons would just float away and disappear somewhere in a tree nearby.
But one of the balloons did make it to Alvin Bamburg, who was deer hunting in Grand Cane, Louisiana, in late December when he spotted a balloon tangled (纠缠) in a tree. He told himself he needed to get the trash out of the woods. However, when he got it, he noticed a folded yellow piece of paper sealed with a red star and it was a Christmas list from a girl named Luna. She had asked Santa to bring her candy, a Spider Man ball, a Frozen doll and a dachshund (腊肠狗) puppy, which was her most desired present.
The holidays kept Alvin Bamburg and his wife busy. They had family reunions and organized several charity parties to help whoever needed help but they didn’t forget about the list. In early January, Bamburg shared his discovery with family and friends on Facebook. “I would love to know when it was launched. It looks like it travelled 600 miles,” he wrote.
