22、 Morgan’s Wonderland, located in San Antonio, Texas, is a theme park mainly intended for mentally or physically disabled children. The park was built by Gordon Hartman, a former real estate (房地产) developer. The creation of the park was inspired by his daughter, Morgan, who suffers from severe cognitive delay and physical challenges.
The world’s first ultra-accessible family fun park, Morgan’s Wonderland opened in the spring of 2010. Admission for guests with special needs is free, and fees for the general public are set at a much discounted price so that people of all ages and abilities can come together and play in a fun and safe environment.
Completely wheelchair-accessible, the park features 25 acres of attractions including rides, playgrounds, a catch-and-release fishing lake, and picnic areas throughout the park. The rides are custom-designed to accommodate wheelchair riders so that every family member can enjoy the fun. The adapted rides include the Off-Road Adventure, where guests can test their driving skills in sporty vehicles. Moreover, each visitor is offered the option to wear a GPS Adventure Band, which allows them to keep track of each other while in the park. The band also enables them to take part in electronic activities. For example, when the riders scan the band at the Off-Road Adventure, a photo will be taken and sent to their email.
In June 2017, Morgan’s Wonderland celebrated the opening of Morgan’s Inspiration Island. The new expansion is composed of five themed splash pads and a River Boat Adventure Ride. The wheelchair guests can be moved out of their chairs into unique, waterproof chairs and enjoy the splash park without risking damage to their personal wheelchairs.

23、Our screens give out all kinds of light, especially blue light. Blue light, the argument goes, can affect your eye health, your sleeping patterns, and your health. Blue light glasses—technically they should be called “blue light blocking glasses”— filter out (过滤) blue light, letting in the other wavelengths of light, thus theoretically reducing the danger that blue light presents. Blue light glasses are designed to reduce what’s known as digital eye strain (疲劳), or DES. There are many symptoms associated with DES, including headaches, dry eyes, and unclear vision.
How effective are blue light glasses? We’ll start with the bad news: there is no evidence that blue light glasses have any effect on eye strain from digital screens. In fact, one British glasses dealer was fined for indicating that blue light glasses can protect against DES, given that there’s no scientific evidence of this. What’s more likely is that DES is caused by overuse, or misuse of eyes. After all, the sun is a substantially more powerful provider of blue light than our screens, and it has been decidedly proved that DES isn’t associated with the sun at all. The general agreement is that DES is caused by spending too long, staring too hard, and sitting too close to our screens. Health experts generally recommend taking breaks to prevent DES, rather than relying on blue light glasses.
But there is one thing that blue light glasses might help with. Some studies have indicated that blue light can be bad for our circadian rhythms (生理节奏). In other words, exposure to blue light could make it harder to fall asleep. There haven’t been enough studies to tell if blue light glasses, worn for a few hours before bed, could help you sleep better, but it’s not out of the question.
That said, there are interesting reports of people loving their blue light glasses. Even if it’s just the placebo (安慰剂) effect, that can be incredibly powerful, and if it works on you, keep doing it.
【1】What can we know from Paragraphs 1 and 2?
A.Blue light is beneficial to health.
B.It’s advisable to take breaks to prevent DES.
C.Blue light glasses can protect against DES.
D.Blue light mainly comes from the screens.
【2】What is DES likely caused by?
A.Poor-quality sunglasses.
B.Improper use of eyes.
C.The blinding sunlight.
D.The small size of screens.
【3】What can we know about blue light glasses from Paragraph 3?
A.They reduce eye strain.
B.They affect circadian rhythms.
C.They may be helpful for sleep.
D.They help to see things more clearly.
【4】What is the author’s attitude to blue light glasses?
A.Objective.
B.Opposed.

24、 Over the past few months huge groups of locusts(蝗虫), one of which occupied an area more than three times the size of New York City, have eaten up crops across the Home of Africa and the Middle East, leaving an estimated 20 million people at risk of famine(饥荒). The first generation's eggs are starting to hatch, and now even bigger swarms(虫群) are forming threatening. Countries from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Yemen, Iran, Pakistan and India, “representing a threat to food security and livelihoods,” says the U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO).
Desert locusts' populations explode when weather conditions are right. That explosion can create huge swarms that can travel great distance-more than 90 miles in a day-in search of food. Warm weather and unusually heavy rains in the Horn of Africa at the end of 2019 provided the moist(湿润的) soil necessary for hatching eggs. From there, the insects spread rapidly, resulting in one of the worst outbreaks the region has seen in more than 70 years.
A typical swarm numbering 4 billion to 8 billion locusts, can consume in one day the same amount of food as 35 million people. Some swarms have been so thick in parts of Kenya that they have prevented planes from taking off. Governments have used widespread aerial spraying of pesticides when available; in poorer regions, where aircraft are unavailable, soldiers battle the swarms with handheld spray pump.
The FAO has appealed for $138 million to support affected communities, If the locusts are not stopped before the next generation hatches, the impact could be terrible: the FAO guesses that an additional 25 million people across the region could lose their crops. Scientists in Kenya hope a new computer-assisted tracking program that combines satellite data with weather-mapping software will help predict the swarms next destination, buying-regional authorities enough time to prepare a response. Buy coronavirus- related travel restriction have delayed relief efforts as well as response mechanisms. The locusts have no such travel limitations.
【1】The author uses many statistics in the passage to show_____
A.the disastrous consequence of the outbreaks of locusts
B.the serious conditions facing the New York City
C.the speed of swarms of locusts travelling
D.the exact number of crops consumed by locusts
【2】What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The great distances locusts can travel.
B.The explosion of locusts' population.
C.The perfect conditions for hatching their eggs.
D.The result of the unusual outbreaks of locusts.
【3】What does the last paragraph imply?
A.The travel restrictions may probably worsen the urgent situation.
B.It is unlikely to predict the swarms' next destination now.
C.A lot of money has been raised after the FAO's appeal
D.It's not difficult for humans to win the battle against the locust

26、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,便之构成一个完整的故事。
Yoghurt
It was a rough week. The price of oil skyrocketed as the temperature dropped sharply in Maine. We were looking at a high of eight degrees that week, and I had missed three days of work so my paycheck was going to be lower than normal. I was stressed, to say the least. I shopped strategically, looking for every possible way to cut down expenses so I could buy groceries and keep the house warm.
My eight-year-old son didn’t understand when I told him we were struggling that week. He wanted a special kind of yoghurt, but I didn’t have the extra three dollars to buy it for him. It was the kind of yoghurt with a cartoon kid riding a skateboard on the front of the box, and a mere two spoonfuls in each cup. It was the kind of product that wastes a parent’s money and makes me hate advertising.
I felt guilty as a parent when those big eyes looked at me with confusion, as if to say, “It’s just yoghurt. What’s the big deal?” So I found a way. I put something back as single mothers often do. He got his yoghurt.
On the way driving back from the grocery store, I noticed a homeless man holding a sign by the side of the road. My heart hurt, and I tried not to look at him. I watched people stay away from him on the street and walk by without even meeting his eyes. My son didn’t seem to care much, either. I looked at the man closely then-bare hands holding a piece of cardboard, snot (鼻涕) frozen to his face, a worn-out jacket. And there I was struggling because I had to buy oil and groceries. But I decided to help. I pulled over to the man and handed him a five-dollar bill.
