二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   “I don’t want to sigh when I get an invitation in the mail, but I can’t help it,” Susan, aged 30, tells us. “I want to go, but how do I explain I can’t?” Weddings are supposed to be about fun and togetherness — a time to get together and celebrate a huge life milestone.

However, more and more, they’ve become a source of tension and distance. When wedding season approaches and another wave of wedding invites start to roll in, many millennials are facing an uncomfortable truth – they’re just too expensive.

Because it’s not just the wedding. It’s the engagement party, the gifts and the airfare in the middle of high season to a destination wedding. The average bachelor party now costs an eye-watering $1,532 and the average bachelorette party isn’t far behind at $1,106, and that’s before we even get to the wedding, which, by the way, costs the average guest $1,386. It doesn’t matter how many times the thrifty among us can restyle the same old jumpsuit because the money you’re saving isn’t going to touch your Air BNB bill.

It’s no surprise that more people are saying no to wedding invitations because of the cost. And who can blame them? It’s hard to see another solution. It’s natural to want everyone you care about to be at your wedding, but it’s also understandable if you can’t afford to fly to three different weddings during six weeks.

The wedding machinery shows no signs of slowing down, so all we can do is have a little more sympathy. If you’re throwing a wedding, try to be sensitive about the cost and understanding when someone just can’t make it. We have to create more socially acceptable ways of celebrating a marriage without spending a month’s salary to be there to celebrate the big day. It really should be the thought that counts.

1What does the underlined part in Paragraph 3 most probably mean?

A.The average bachelor. B.The expensive wedding.

C.The economical people D.The saved money.

2Why do most people want to decline the wedding invitations?

A.The weddings are too costly to attend. B.They don’t care about the wedding.

C.They don’t have enough time to go. D.The weddings are often disappointing.

3According to the passage, what idea may the author agree with?

A.People should spend a month’s salary to prepare a gift.

B.When throwing a wedding, people should be thoughtful.

C.A luxurious wedding contributes to a good marriage.

    D.Wedding invitations should go unnoticed.

4Which could be the best title of this passage?

A.Weddings are about fun and togetherness.

B.It is an art to say no to wedding invitations.

C.Millennials are facing more and more tension.

D.Wedding invitations bring joy and burden to Millennials.

  • 23、   Some people say that dogs are human’s best friend-good companions, loyal and lovable. Of course, they can be more than just a pet as some are excellent working dogs. More recently, a new role has been found for the animals-working as therapy dogs in universities.

Research, conducted by Washington State University, has found that spending time with dogs can help stressed-out students. Patricia Pendry from the university said that a study of 300 undergraduates had found weekly hour-long sessions with dogs brought to the university by professional handlers (训狗师) had made stressed students who were at “high risk of academic failure” or dropping out, “feel relaxed and accepted”. The dogs helped them to concentrate, learn and remember information.

Other research has shown that petting animals like dogs can reduce stress hormone levels and anxiety. Around 1,000 campuses in the US already use therapy pets and it’s becoming more common in the UK. For example, The University of Middlesex has employed some dogs to help stop lonely students dropping out. Fiona Suthers, head of clinical skills at the university, says that five Labradors had a “stringent assessment” to ensure they had the right temperament (性情). But she adds, “It’s hard to describe the impact of just having a dog lying down in the corner of a class.”

Using dogs for therapy can also help the dogs themselves. In Wales, Swansea University Students’ Union has used rescued Greyhounds to help students unwind between exams. Sessions allow mistreated and abandoned dogs to interact with humans and begin to trust them again. Student Union education officer Chloe Hutchinson said, “A lot of students have dogs at home and might be a bit homesick, especially around exam time when it is stressful and you just want your home comforts.”

So if you’re a student who’s been working like a dog, but you still feel like you haven’t a dog’s chance in passing your exams, maybe introducing a four-legged friend into your life might be the help you need.

1What can we learn about therapy dogs in universities?

    A.They can reduce students’ anxiety.

    B.They can help blind students.

    C.They can work with students.

    D.They can keep students safe.

    2What does Fiona Suthers imply?

A.Dogs play a part in class in universities.

B.The right temperament is needed for a therapy dog.

C.The impact of therapy dogs is clear.

D.It’s hard to describe how dogs will help with the students.

3How do the abandoned dogs themselves get help?

A.By finding a new family to live in.

B.By helping students with some exams.

C.By lying down to the ground in a room.

D.By making more chances to meet humans.

4What is the best title for the text?

    A.Dogs helping stressed-out students

    B.College students are stressed out

    C.Why dogs are perfect helpers

D.How to keep a therapy dog

  • 24、The guzheng is a traditional Chinese musical instrument. It belongs to the zither (齐特琴) family of string instruments. It is the parent of many musical instruments of some other countries.

The guzheng should not be confused with the guqin, another ancient Chinese zither but without bridges. Now the guzheng is zither with movable bridges and usually 21 strings, although it can have from 15-25 strings. The guzheng’s strings were formerly made of silk, though most players used metal strings by the 20th century. Since the mid-20th century most performers use steel strings. The guzheng has a large resonant cavity (共振腔).

The guzheng has existed since the Warring States Period and became especially popular during the Qin dynasty. The number of strings on the guzheng has always fluctuated. There were as few as 6 to as many as 23 strings during the Tang dynasty. The earliest record of the guzheng belonged to the historian Sima Qian. Until 1961, the common guzheng had 16 strings, although by the mid-20th century 18-string guzheng were also in use. In 1961, Xu Zhenggao, together with Wang Xunzhi, introduced the first 21-string guzheng after two years of research and development. In 1960, they also invented the “S-shaped” left string rest, which was quickly adopted by all guzheng makers and is still used today. This curve allows for greater ease in tuning the strings and, combined with strings of different thickness, allows for greater resonance in both the deeper and the higher pitch (音调) ranges. The 21-string guzheng is the most commonly used one, but some traditional musicians still use the 16-string one.

【1】We can infer from Paragraph 1 that ________.

A.the guzheng is a musical instrument originating from Japan

B.there is only one kind of string instrument in China

C.there are many kinds of guzheng in the world

D.many musical instruments in other countries are related to the guzheng

【2】Which of the following material may NOT have been used to make the strings of the guzheng probably?

    A.Silk

    B.Steel

    C.Wood

    D.Copper

【3】The underlined word “fluctuated” in paragraph 3 can be replaced by “________”.

    A.jumped

    B.changed

    C.flowed

    D.waved

【4】Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?

A.The guqing is an ancient Chinese zither with bridges.

B.The guzheng became espevially popular in the Tang Dynasty

    C.All musicians don’t use the 21-string guzheng.

D.Xu Zhenggao invented the “S-shaped” left string rest himself.
