21、One of the most challenging aspects of traveling alone is trying to make friends on the road. But, despite the conception that solo travel means you have to be alone all the time, it can actually be one of the best times to socialize and meet new people. Read on to learn our tips for it!
Stay in hostels
If you’re worried about feeling lonely while traveling solo, one of the best ways to solve this problem is to stay in hostels. 22、One morning I noticed a woman sitting alone at the bus stop. She seemed not to go to work hurriedly. She wasn't going anywhere as well. Was she waiting for the bus? Did mall(商场)buses come this early when the stores wouldn't be open for hours? I felt puzzled. As I drove by, I heard a voice say, "Give her a bottle of water."
"She looks like she is sleeping. Why would I wake her? What is wrong with me? What is so hard about doing the right thing? It's just a bottle of water!"
So I drove by her again and again. Finally, I pulled my car into a parking zone, stepping out with a bottle of water in one hand and a twenty-dollar bill in the other. Each step seemed to fill me with purpose and focus. No words can describe what happened between us at that moment. I thought I was bringing her a cold drink, but instead I was bringing her a hope she needed. We sat together for a while as she talked. She had a sad story to tell, but she was no longer sad. Before we parted, I grabbed all the cash I had in my purse and found more water in my car along with some snacks. We stood at the bus stop hugging and said our goodbyes.
I still have a thousand questions as to why I struggled to act. Why did it take me many circles around the mall and an argument with myself? I was once torn between helping her and ignoring her. All I know for sure is that while walking toward that woman at the bus stop, a miracle happened.
There are opportunities for us to love every day. Maybe our doubts keep us from acting. Maybe we don't want to take the risk or be uncomfortable. That day, I learned how love answers when asked and how love both gives and receives.
【1】How did the author feel about the woman sitting alone in the beginning?

23、What’s really green?
Most of us are aware that we must take care of the environment, and the majority of us take steps to save energy and reduce waste and pollution. But recently, some “green truths” have been shown to be only half true, or even completely false. 【1】
Paper shopping bags are better than plastic ones.
Plastic bags cause litter and are a danger to wild animals, which mistake them for food. It takes hundreds of years for plastic to break down, but much less time for paper. Because of this, people think paper bags are the better environmental choice.
However, making a paper bag uses four times as much energy as making a plastic bag and up to three times the amount of water. 【2】 In fact, both kinds of bags are bad for the environment. So, take a reusable bag with you when you go shopping.
【3】
It seems like common sense: eating local food should be better for the environment, because it does not need to be transported long distances and kept cold during transport. 【4】 It is the production of food, not its transport, that uses most of the energy and produces most of the greenhouse gases. In some cases, local produce might have used more energy and produced more greenhouse gases than produce grown a long way away-even taking into account its transport.
It’s better to take a shower than a bath.
【5】 If you spend more than eight minutes in a shower, you’ll use as much water as in a bath-about 50 litres of water. Therefore, the key is to keep your shower time as short as possible.
Environmental awareness is now part of daily life. But it’s worth checking common ideas and opinions to see what’s really green.
A.So say no to plastic bags.
B.Here are some common ones.
C.Unfortunately, it is not that simple.
D.Eating local food is good for the environment.
E.The process also produces more greenhouse gases.
F.It’s time that we took measures to protect our environment.
G.It depends on how long you spend in the shower and how large your bath is.
24、 As a young child, Ann Makosinski would spend hours experimenting with her toys and other everyday objects ar ound her to create her own inventions.
Now a first-year Arts student, Makosinski is a well-known inventor. She won the recent Sustainable Entrepreneurship Award of Excellence, which recognizes creative business solutions to social problems--the same recognition was given to Barack Obama in 2014. Her two inventions—the Hollow Flashlight and the e-Drink—have been causing excitement internationally since their creation.
When Makosinski was 15 years old, she created a flashlight powered by the heat of one's hand. This invention was the result of a 9th grade science project, but her goal was to offer a practical solution to people with unlimited access to power and electricity. “One of my friends from the Philippines told me that she failed school because she had no light to study with at night, so that was kind of the inspiration.” Makosinski explained.
At 12th grade, Makosinski then went on to create the e-Drink. It is a coffee cup that harvests the extra heat of a hot drink while it cools, stores it as electricity in an internal(内置的)battery and makes it available to charge an external device such as a phone, whose life can now be longer by approximately 10 to 30 minutes.
“My favorite part of creating inventions would be when you had the idea and you have to physically build it,and it doesn't work out,” she said. “So you have to figure out different ways to solve it. A lot of times, I'll give up and I’ll come back after a couple of days and I'll take it up again.”
Her advice to other student innovators? “Start now. There’s nothing holding you back. Actually, you can do whatever you want.” Makosinski said,“If you want to make something, follow your heart, then go ahead. If there's something you really want to do, you will make time for it and you will find time in the day to do your schoolwork.”

25、 It is understandable that the plan to raise the retirement age has sparked debates, because the move involves individuals’ interests and delayed retirement has been on countries’ ________ for a long time.
The wider the debate is, the clearer the issues will be. The first misunderstanding is that the government is thinking over raising the retirement age to ________ the so-called shortfall in pension funds. The fact is, there is no such thing as a nationwide shortfall in the pension funds, because the situation varies from region to region. So we need a ________ pension system to ensure all regions have adequate pension funds.
Many countries with extra pension insurance are drawing up plans for raising the retirement age. Nowadays, people start working at a later age. So the retirement age should be extended ________ the structural changes of individuals’ life-cycle. For example, many born in the 1980s and 1990s started working at 25 or 30 due to their ________ of higher education. If such people retire at 60, they would have worked for only 35 or 30 years. And given their longer life expectancy, they’ll receive pensions for a longer period of time, putting extra ________ on the pension system.
But since delayed retirement ________ people’s interests, it must be planned carefully. First, the retirement age should be raised, once the leadership decides to do so, ________ across the country. Although rolling out pilot programs before ________ economic and social reforms made them more effective, the retirement age cannot be raised in different regions in a targeted manner, because that’ll not be helpful to ________ development in different regions.
Second, some people are against raising the retirement age because they feel they may be forced to work for a few “extra years”. As has been learned from other countries’ ________, some policies can be adopted to help accept the delayed retirement plan. ________, it should be made clear to employees that the longer they contribute to the pension funds, the higher pension they’ll draw after retirement—and early retirement will result in ________ pension.
Third, it is important to balance the interests of different groups. China’s current retirement system distinguishes between men and women, and the employees of State-owned enterprises and privately-owned companies have different opinions on delayed retirement. The new retirement policy needs to be ________ to all groups.
The debate on delayed retirement shows that reforms of social policies will face more challenges and the challenges need political wisdom and practical strategies to________.
