二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   A group of people introduced themselves to me and my German classmate Julia. They were from a production company, currently in the process of filming a movie based in Du’an, a rural area a few hours north of Nanning. They tried to explain the plot of the film, but neither mine nor Julia’s Chinese was good enough to fully understand what they were saying. They then asked if we would be interested in being part of the project.

I came to China to experience new things and new opportunities, and being in a movie sounded so exciting. So in less than a second, I jumped at the chance of being in the film. Julia on the other hand was not so enthusiastic. It took 30 minutes to convince her to be part of the film, and she eventually accepted the chance.

That afternoon we were taken to the production company’s office to meet the director and some of the cast. We all sat together, drinking tea, talking about why Julia and I were in China and about the film. It seemed a little bit like a dream.

Ever since I was a small child, I dreamed of becoming a movie star, but I would never have guessed that my dream would come true, especially now in China.

At the end of the talk, we were given scripts(剧本)and had a few photographs taken. We were given the production schedule and ensured that our scenes would only be shot at weekends so it wouldn’t interfere with our studies. We left the office and were excited about the film, unknowing what filming was actually like.

On our first day of filming, we were picked up in the early morning from the university and we drove deep into the countryside.

We arrived at the location and waited for our scene to be shot. We watched as the other actors and crew went about their work, busy shooting and reshooting the same scene from different angles and perspectives. I never knew how much effort and care went into filming even the shortest and simplest scene. It was then our turn to shoot, and I was very nervous and very excited.

1From the first paragraph we know that______.

A.the writer was also a German

B.Du’an is the name of a film

C.neither the writer’s Chinese nor her classmate’s was very good

D.the group of people wanted the writer to be the director of the film

2From the passage we can learn that the writer______.

    A.was interested in new things

    B.was interested in exciting films

    C.jumped high in the film

D.wasn’t as enthusiastic as Julia about the film

3Which of the following is TRUE about the filming?

A.Before being part of the film, the writer had to make friends with the director.

B.An actor or actress must recite all the scripts.

C.Before being part of the film, one must know what filming is actually like.

D.Sometimes the same scene can be shot or reshot many times.

4What might happen in the following paragraph?

A.The writer was praised in her university.

B.The writer became very famous as a new actress.

C.How the writer performed in the film.

D.How the writer got on with other actors.

5Which of the following is a suitable title for the passage?

    A.A foreign girl’s adventure

B.A foreign girl’s experience as an “actress”

C.A foreign girl’s college life in China

D.A foreign girl’s trip to the countryside

  • 22、   Sharks are amazing creatures. They are known as the deadliest hunters in the sea. Fortunately most are not, but there are some kinds of sharks that can be extremely dangerous. Look at these short descriptions of four kinds of sharks.

    The Great White Shark

Great Whites are one of the most frightening creatures in the sea. They live in tropical and subtropical waters, and they can grow up to 9 meters long. Most Great Whites are actually grey, blue or brown with a white belly, and their powerful teeth are triangles with edges like saws.

    The Whale Shark

Whale Sharks are the largest kind of shark in the world-up to 11 meters in length. They live in tropical waters all around the world, but they are not dangerous. Whale Sharks are brown or grey with white or yellow stripes. They often travel near the surface of the sea.

    The Mako Shark

Mako Sharks are fierce predators. They come from the same family of sharks as the Great White and they are especially fast-they can swim at speeds of up to 65 kilometers per hour. They are large bluish sharks found in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans. Mako Sharks can grow up to 3 meters long.

    The Great Hammerhead Shark

The Great Hammerheads' most striking feature is its wide thick head which looks like a hammer. The average size of a Great Hammerhead is approximately 3.5 meters, but can grow up to 6 meters long. These sharks average over 500 pounds but can weigh as much as 1,000 pounds. Like most sharks the females are larger than the males. They have several rows of teeth that have 24 to 37 teeth per row. The Great Hammerhead has a very keen sense of smell, which helps find its prey.

B.Mako Sharks are fast but not dangerous.

C.Great Whites have at least 24 to 37 sharp teeth.

    D.The function of its teeth.

【3】From which is the text probably taken?

    A.A news report.

    B.A book review.

    C.An advertisement.

    D.A biology magazine.

  • 23、Humans have long gained pleasure from the smells of the natural world. For the most part, though, human beings are not their target market. For plants, fragrances are a way to interact with insects and other animals. Their attraction for people happens simply by chance.

In chemical terms, most natural fragrances are made up of volatiles — so called because of their tendency to change states suddenly. Volatiles evaporate easily, drifting into noses. In plants’ reproductive processes, smelly volatiles attract pollinators (授粉昆虫). But their natural applications are much more varied. If an insect chews through the leaves of some Bursera plants, out shoots a sticky, smelly liquid to trap it. Coyote tobacco plants are even more crafty: upon sensing the smell of hungry caterpillars, they produce volatiles that attract predators to kill the pests.

What is truly amazing is just how wily plants can be in using their scents for reproduction. White flowers often emit their scent at night to attract nocturnal pollinators such as moths. They produce a dilute nectar (稀释的花蜜) that encourages moths to keep moving, rather than linger at a single bloom—all the better to increase pollination. Other flowers change their fragrance after being successfully pollinated, as a signal for insects to go elsewhere.

But though “Scent” is a story of plants’ cleverness, it is also a tale of the human kind. People have long used fragrances for their own purposes, particularly for use in religious ceremonies: perfume recipes on the walls of an Egyptian temple in Edfu demonstrate just how long ingredients have been mixed in pursuit of the best blend. So highly prized were some scents that, to scare off competitors, Arab traders spread a legend about giant eagles that guarded cinnamon.

Eventually scientists no longer needed natural sources for fragrances. In 1866 a fragrance molecule was produced for the first time. Sixteen years later, Houbigant Parfum released Fougère Royale, the first “modern fantasy perfume” that creates an imaginary scent rather than copying a natural one. Nowadays fragrance–making is dominated by man–made compounds, which can be reliably and affordably produced in large quantities.

That has led to the mass production of smelly products, from toilet paper to toothpaste. Scent is accordingly big business. It is said that a world–famous fragrance and flavour manufacturer that claims people interact with its products up to 30 times a day, had sales of €3.8bn last year.

【1】According to Paragraph 1 and 2, which would the author agree with?

A.Some plants might kill the pests with their smells.

B.Fragrance is a tool for plants to protect themselves.

C.People interact with nature easily through fragrance.

D.Fragrances are less important to humans than to animals and insects.

【2】What does the underlined word “prized” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?

    A.Developed.

    B.Rewarded.

    C.Mixed.

    D.Valued.

【3】What can we learn from the passage?

A.Humans do not use fragrances as purposefully as plants do.

B.Natural sources for fragrances will be out of date in the future.

C.Plants use fragrances to both attract and send away pollinators.

D.Man–made fragrances have to be produced by copying natural ones.

【4】Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

    A.Plants Smell, Insects Prey

    B.Smartness behind Fragrance

C.Fragrance: To Make or Not to Make

    D.Fragrance Connects Human & Nature

  • 24、Move over Psy. There’s a new viral music video on the Internet that’s getting millions of people dancing and laughing. Psy is a singer who created Gagnam Style, a music video which featured a catchy tune and interesting dance.

The new music video called The Fox (What does the fox say?) has recently gone viral. At  123 000 000 views, it may even catch up to Gagnam Style. The video asks the question, “What does the fox say?” It’s a good question. And it seems, at least according to the music video, there is no good answer.

Actors in the video dress up like the animals they’re singing about. One of the brothers dresses up like a fox. There is a surprising and silly dance in the video that takes the viewer a bit off-guard. The video’s appeal is the song’s simple rhythm and catchy chorus (副歌).

The makers of the video never expected the video to do well or even to be taken seriously. In fact, it started out as a joke. The song was written by two brothers from Norway, Vegard and Bard Ylvis Ker. The brothers have their own late-night talk show in Norway. They thought the video would be so bad that it would give them something to talk about on their show.

On their website, they say the video was “supposed to entertain a few Norwegians for three minutes and that’s all.” But people started loving it. Some people say that once you listen to the delightfully silly song, you want to listen to it again and again.

The brothers have been guests on some major North American talk shows. They say they’re happy about the success of their video, but they know that tomorrow something else could come along and be even bigger.

【1What can be learnt about the music video invented by Psy?

    A. It featured the traditional style of Korean music.

    B. It was difficult for people to follow.

    C. It was named after a new virus.

    D. It could make people relax a lot.

【2】Which of the following best describes the new music video The Fox?

    A. It can catch the viewers’ heart easily by its amusing tune and dance.

    B. It features the same story with the music video Gagnam Style.

    C. It answers the question “What does the fox say?” exactly.

    D. It has the real animals in the video.

【3】It can be inferred from the passage that nowadays most people ______.

    A. like to enjoy music with simple and easy style.

    B. have difficulty in understanding the viral movie music.

    C. are working hard for the advancement of classic music.

    D. are tired of many music videos which are popularized through Internet too quickly.

【4The underlined word “off-guard” in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ______.

    A. Annoyed.   B. Offended.

    C. Unexpected. D. Relaxed.
