21、In an effort to fight the “throw-away culture” and promote reuse and repair, the city of Berlin has taken the unique step of opening its own secondhand department store.
This isn’t your grandma’s thrift shop (旧货商店). It resells perfectly good items that would otherwise be thrown away. A pun on the German words for “department store” and “conserving house”, B-Wa(h)renhaus sells a wide variety of products. Far from simply selling old items, the electronic goods have been fixed by expert technicians and come with a year’s guarantee. And, to reach more secondhand shoppers, the store was set up right in the middle of the famous Karstadt department store.
With the success of its initial six-month trial run, the city plans to open four more similar operations in other parts of Berlin. By 2030, it hopes to have at least one location in each of Berlin’s 12 districts. Since 2008, city policies and educational campaigns have reduced average annual household waste by about 25 pounds per resident. It also recycles about 49% of its mineral construction waste. Currently, the city estimates that 8% of abandoned electronic goods and 6% of huge items thrown away can actually be reused. The goal is to expand the market for these items beyond the usual bargain hunters and eco-conscious consumers.
“Three years ago, we started collecting all kinds of used goods,” city spokesperson Dorothee Winden said. “There are lots of things that are well-preserved and functioning but aren’t being used anymore. The goal is to give these things a new life with somebody who can use them.” The store also includes an education center to encourage more sustainable lifestyles — and also gave an award to a project that recycles school uniforms, so that parents don’t have to buy new ones every year.

C.It is not easy to make the goal to expand the market a reality.
D.It is estimated that Berlin will be a zero-waste city by 2030.

22、Space Hotel Promises Guests A Truly Out-Of-This World Vacation
Looking for a true out-of-his-world vacation? Then you are in luck! On Thursday, Aprils, Texas-based start-up Orion Span announced they were taking reservations for Aurora (极光) Station, the world's first luxury hotel in space, which is expected to launch in 2021 and begin welcoming visitors by 2022.
The pill-shaped space station, which begins construction in 2019, will measure 43.5 feet long and 14.1 feet wide—about the size of a large private jet's cabin—when completed. It will accommodate four guests in two private suites (套房) and two crew members, most likely former astronauts. Flying about 200 miles above Earth, Aurora Station will circle the planet once every 90 minutes, enabling guests to enjoy 16 spectacular sunrises and sunsets daily, as well as scores of the breathtaking northern and southern auroras that the hotel is named after.
While admiring the beauty of our planet, tourists can eat non-astronaut food and drinks or entertain themselves with playing cards. Those hoping to do something more worthwhile will be able to engage in astronaut—like experiments such as growing food in a special environment. The Wi-Fi enabled spacecraft will make it easy for guests to share their experiences with friends and family members on Earth. At the end of the week and half-long vacation, returning guests will be treated to a special "hero's welcome", similar to the one experienced by astronauts returning from a real mission.
Before the once-in-a-lifetime trip, guests will have to undergo the three month-long special training learning how to move in a weightless environment, along with the basics of spaceflight and orbital mechanics. Also, before you start packing your bags, you will have to pay $9.5 million for the 12-day round-trip vacation.
While several companies are planning to build hotels in space, Orion Span hopes to transform sections of used rockets floating in space into hotel rooms, instead of crowding the already messy skies with additional man-made objects.

B.Its construction will last for about 5 years.

【3】What can guests do in a space hotel?

26、阅读下面材料根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was the first day of our new grade. Everyone in the classroom was chatting happily, excited to see each other again after the long holidays. When the door slid open, all of us stopped talking and turned to look. In came our teacher Ms. Green, followed by an ordinary-looking boy.
“This boy’s name is Mark, ” Ms. Green announced. “He comes from another school, and he’s going to be in our class from today. Make sure all of you welcome him warmly. ”
The class clapped. But I didn’t want to. have a second look at the newcomer, for he had no outstanding qualities, considering his small figure and casual T-shirt.
“Oh, I forgot to mention one thing, " Ms. Green spoke up. “Mark actually has hearing problems. Normally he would have hearing aids on, but his old ones have just been broken. His doctor suggester that he stay at home until he got his new ones. However, Mark insisted on attending his first day of school So if you want to communicate with him, you have to write your words on a piece of paper. ”
This single speech sent the whole class into noises. Some students looked at each other with expressions of surprise. Others voiced cries of concern out of pity.
Ms. Green calmed everyone down. “I’d like someone to personally help him out throughout the day. Do I have any volunteers?”
“How can a disabled person be intelligent?” I thought to myself. I refused to raise my hand, expecting someone else. would. But nobody did or said anything. Dead silence spread across the classroom.
It was by total bad luck that my eyes happened to meet Ms. Green’s.
“How about you, James? She asked me. “Is it okay for you to take care of Mark just for today?”
It is difficult to refuse a request by someone, especially. f that person is a teacher. I sighed (叹气)and nodded slightly.
