二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Chinese researchers have developed a robot designed to help doctors treat the new coronavirus and other highly infectious diseases.

The machine has a long robotic arm attached to a base with wheels. It can perform some of the same medical examination tasks as doctors. Cameras record the robot’s activities, which are controlled remotely so doctors can avoid coming in close contact with infected patients. Doctors and other medical workers can operate the machine from a nearby room, or from much farther away.

The robot’s main designer is Zheng Gangtie, an engineer and professor at Tsinghua University. He told a news agency that he got the idea for the device around the time of the Lunar New Year in January, when the COVID-19 virus was spreading quickly.

Zheng said a friend of his is the head of Beijing’s Tsinghua Changgung Hospital. He said his friend told him that one of the biggest problems in dealing with COVID-19 was that healthcare workers treating patients were getting infected themselves. Zheng said he wanted to do something to help this situation.

So the engineer gathered a team and went to work on the robotic device. The team was able to convert(转换) two robotic arms. The devices use the same technology that is used for space equipment. The new robot is almost completely automated and perform the most dangerous tasks. However, some doctors said that it would be better not to build such robots to be fully automatic. This is because many patients still desire a personal presence to help calm them during treatment.

The plan is to use the robot to help treat coronavirus patients, along with assistance from nurses and other hospital workers. Zheng said he would like to build more of the robots and does not plan to make any profit from the design, but hopes that a company can begin that process.

【1】What is one feature of the robot?

A.It takes the place of doctors.

    B.It performs tasks through cameras.

    C.It flees patients from diseases.

D.It allows doctors to work from a distance.

【2】Why did Zheng mention his friend in Paragraph 4?

    A.To appreciate his timely help.

    B.To introduce the caring expert.

C.To explain the reason for creating the device.

D.To show the great danger of COVID-19 virus.

【3】What did some doctor say about the device in Paragraph 5?

    A.It requires some improvement.

    B.It can’t replace doctors completely.

C.It is not useful to patients.

    D.It is of great convenience.

【4】What can be inferred about Zheng?

    A.He cares little about money.

B.He gets on well with his friends.

C.He is a leading scientist in his field.

D.He is a teacher at Tsinghua University.

  • 22、   For the first few months of 2021, Mars was crowded with new “visitors” from Earth. First, it was the UAE Space Agency’s Hope, followed by the Chinese Tianwen-1. The name comes from the long poem Tianwen, written by Qu Yuan, a great poet of ancient China. In Tianwen, this name conveys China’s steady effort in pursuing truth and culture of exploring the universe.

The Tianwen-1 rover landing has orbiting, landing and roving (巡视) components—the first mission to include all three on its first attempt. Landing on Mars is extremely dangerous. It requires entering the atmosphere at very high speeds, then slowing down before landing. As to Tianwen-1, a heat shield (防热护罩) protected the spacecraft during the fiery (燃烧的) landing, after which the mission safely parachuted (使空降) down to the Utopia Planitia (乌托邦平原). The landing platform fired small, downward-facing rocket engines to slow down during the last few seconds.

China’s Mars rover, called Zhurong after an ancient Chinese fire god, sent back images of the surface of Mars captured by a camera on its front, which functions as an “eye” to detect barriers and get around them. The Utopia Planitia, where Tianwen-1 landed, has long been believed to contain vast amounts of water ice. Zhurong will first and foremost study Martian soil and atmosphere and search for signs of water ice, which suggests the existence of life.

Tianwen-1 is China’s first interplanetary (行星间的) mission. Meanwhile, China is working with Russia on a sample-return mission scheduled to launch in 2024. China is open and inclusive in the development of its space technology to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

【1】Why was China’s “visitor” to Mars named Tianwen?

A.To emphasize the value of exploring Mars.

B.To arouse readers’ interest in reading classics.

C.To illustrate the long history of writing poems.

D.To show China’s constant struggle in space exploration.

【2】Which of the following contributed to the safe landing on Mars?

A.The heat shield on the spacecraft.

B.The camera on the front of Zhurong.

C.The flat landscape of the Utopia Planitia.

D.The rocket engines above the landing platform.

【3】What is the primary target of Zhurong on Mars?

A.To build a shared future for mankind.

B.To look for signs of life on the red planet.

C.To push the boundaries of space exploration.

D.To inform people of our achievements in space.

【4】What can we learn from the text?

A.China is the first country to land a rover on Mars.

B.China is confident of the existence of life on Mars.

C.Tianwen-1 proves joint efforts matter in space research.

D.Tianwen-1 marks the start of China’s interplanetary exploration.

  • 23、   Picture yourself at a crowded airport departure gate. Your flight is 20 minutes late. The woman on your left is noisily eating something that smells awful. The man to your right is still braying into his cellphone, and the traveler next to him is preparing to kill time with...wait, is that a toenail clipper?

Unless you are saintly or unconscious, a few things in that description-on many things, or all the things-are likely to really bug you. We know an annoyance when we experience it. But what makes something annoying? And does research of from any advice for prevent life's annoyances from making our heads explode? The answers to those questions are: no. Did even one university create a Department of Annoyance Science...or offer a major in this universal emotion? No. Nothing.

Then what makes something annoying? It must be harmful but not physically. A housefly buzzing around your head is unpleasant but it won't kill you. Also, it must be unpredictable and intermittent. The loud ticking of an a arm clock or the odor of a cat litter box may at first be annoying, but with constant exposure overtime, it ceases to be noticeable. Psychologists' term for this gradual tolerance of a stimulus is habituation.Yet when an unpleasant noise or smell comes and goes, it becomes annoying each time it shows up.

Finally, to be truly annoying, something has to persist for an uncertain period of time.A fight that's delayed an hour is a bother, but tolerable, so long as it really is just an hour. A fight that's delayed and delayed and delayed, with no explanation and no end in sight, is extremely annoying. The intermittent nature of annoyances makes them hard(if not impossible) to anticipate and thus to prepare a defense against. If you know you're going to best stuck in traffic, you might be able to accept it or bring along a distraction. But when the slowdown is unexpected, it gets to you before you can stop yourself.

An interesting thing about annoyances is how they appear to change over time. A decade ago, our research led us to conclude that one of the most annoying things in the world was listening to someone else's loud cell phone conversation. We hypothesized that the reason it was so annoying is that our brains naturally tend to paint a complete picture of reality, but when you only hear half of a conversation, that's not possible. Then, cell phone conversations seemed annoying only to the people not on the phone. Today it's the call recipients that seem to be getting annoyed. I'm not talking about receiving a robocall. I'm talking about the 20-something who recently told me that an unexpected call, even from a close friend; is annoying, The thinking seems to be, Why call when a text will do? Or even, You should have, texted to ask if you could call...

I've thought a lot about what makes people, things, and situations annoying, and what any of us might do to immunize ourselves against becoming annoyed. The answer's actually surprisingly simple: All you have to do is

  • 24、   When a laptop or smartphone battery starts losing its power, the only options are to buy an expensive replacement, or just keep it plugged in all the time. But a woman Mya Le Thai may have found the answer to this problem.

Thai was frustrated that the batteries for her wireless devices degraded over time, until they failed to charge fully. She did not like having to keep her laptop connected to an electrical outlet to keep it powered on. So, she decided to do something about that problem. At first, she and her team at UC Irvine thought about inventing a new battery. But as they experimented, Thai discovered something that might permit lithium-ion(锂离子) batteries to last forever.

Lithium-ion batteries power most wireless devices. Over time, the batteries lose the ability to hold a charge. Most of these batteries have a life span of about 7,000 charging cycles before they die. One of the reasons lithium-ion batteries degrade is their use of nanowires to carry electricity. Nanowires are extremely thin. A human hair is thousands of times thicker, for example. Nanowires are extremely efficient carriers of electricity, which makes them useful in batteries.

But, Thai had a theory-the nanowires might last longer if covered with a gel(凝胶). She and her team tested this theory. “It was a long process and a lot of work,” Thai said. The team tried many coverings for the wires. PMMA, a type of plastic, was one of them. The nanowires were coated with PMMA and cycled through charges 200,000 times. The PMMA-coated nanowires showed no evidence of damage. The results suggest that batteries could last forever, without losing charging ability.

Thai hopes to continue her research to understand why this gel works so well and to see if any other gel could create better results and she is enjoying the publicity about her discovery. She said she never expected her research to get media coverage. “It’s kind of cool,” she said. “I’m really glad people are showing interest in my work and not just in the work itself, but also in technology and energy.”

1What can we infer about nanowires?

A.They last only 7,000 charging cycles. B.They are too weak to carry electricity.

C.They are not suitable to use in batteries. D.Their thinness is a cause of batteries degrade.

2What might be Thai and her team’s breakthrough?

A.Coating nanowires in gel. B.A new kind of battery.

C.New materials for batteries. D.A new way of charging batteries.

3What may be the best title for the passage?

A.The options of batteries for wireless devices B.A woman invents a life-long battery.

C.Mya Le Thai discovered Nanowires D.The reasons for batteries degrading
