21、On one day of May, when Jared Garcia got home from work, he opened the fridge and saw four different pizza boxes from four different restaurants. “It’s pretty embarrassing, but it’s the truth,” Jared said.
At 129 kilograms, the 27-year-old would sit on the couch watching TV, without energy left after conquering the workday. Late-night snacks included popcorn and ice cream. Gradually, his clothes felt like getting smaller every time he did laundry. Also, Jared missed the feeling he got when he used to play sports as a teenager.
Together, he and his girlfriend, Bella MacDonald, decided to make a change to lifestyle. They had talked about doing it before, but this time, it stuck. They didn’t want to look back 20 years from now realizing they should have made changes to be healthier then.
First, they would start going to the gym. But they didn’t want to put in the hours of fitness without having the right diet to bring up their energy levels. They would eat their meals between 8 am and 6 pm each day. This helped them kick the late-night snacking habit. “You stop mindless eating in the evening. You’re also eating in sync (同步) with your circadian rhythm (昼夜节律), which is more favorable for weight loss,” said Jared.
They immediately noticed their energy levels started to pick back up as they started eating pizza for proteins like turkey alongside vegetables. “When we’re eating only during a ten-hour period, we do want to follow good nutritional guidelines, including protein, fiber, enough fluids in our diet as well,” Jared said.
Jared loved eating healthier options, but always had a hard time getting up to go to the gym. For Bella, food was a weakness, but she was excited to get up and work out. Anyway, they would stay the course.
【1】What can we know about Jared from paragraph 2?
A.He kept slim all the time.
B.He once had bad eating habits.

A.They stopped getting proteins and fiber.
B.They tried to find out their weaknesses.
C.They avoided eating late-night snacks.
D.They asked friends to work out together.

A.Tough.

22、Dynamic clearing
Dynamic clearing policy means stamping out an outbreak whenever it occurs and doing so in a relatively short time frame so it won’t lead to community spread. It does not mean the whole country has no infected cases. 【1】.
Putting people first
China’s dynamic clearing approach is characterized by its adherence to the principle of “people and life first”. The number of deaths attributable to the Omicron variant of the virus is more than those caused by the Delta variant. The WHO has rightly called the death toll “beyond tragic”.
With the largest senior population in the world, China has a sizable number of people with chronic underlying diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. 【2】.
A scientific approach
The dynamic clearing policy China has adopted is a scientific approach to fighting the novel coronavirus in line with its national conditions. It is wrong to consider the Omicron variant of the virus as no worse than the virus that causes the common flu.
It is irresponsible for some politicians to compare infections of the Omicron variant to a “flu”. 【3】. They do so out of a cynical need to cover up their failure in responding to it.
【4】
Dynamic clearance measures change in accordance with the situation. If an outbreak is detected early, health workers only need to quarantine and treat patients while keeping an eye on quarantined close contacts.
Under the policy, so long as there is no community spread it is acceptable for cases to exist in quarantine because they are temporarily isolated.
Supporting the global economy
The dynamic clearing policy has so far proved successful in striking a delicate balance between maintaining economic and social development and controlling the spread of the virus.
【5】, enabling it to resume its economic activities and keep transmission of the virus localized whenever a cluster of infections appears.
A.A timely strategy.
B.Changing the world.
C.It is not supported by any scientific evidence.
D.Here are some reasons to stick to dynamic clearing policy.
E.It is this policy that has made it possible for China to control the virus most rapidly.
F.This has enabled China to continue to serve as the bedrock of the global supply chain.
G.China’s public health system would face unbearable pressure from a nationwide outbreak.
23、For the first time in his life, Pete Peeks was able to use both hands to hang Christmas lights outside his house—thanks to the help of a high school robotics team. Peeks, 38, was born without the full use of his right hand, and though many may take hanging holiday lights for granted, Peeks said it was beyond his wildest dreams.
Peeks was a client of the Sequoyah High School Robotics Team in Canton, Georgia. The team has designed an 3D-printed prostheses (假肢) to send for free to people around the world who need them.
Daniel McCrobie, the team leader, said that while the clients have said they are benefiting from the products, they are also benefiting by learning about the challenges other people face and how technology can make a difference. “Many of the prosthetics people can get the conventional way are very expensive, and even if you are fortunate enough to get coverage, children grow out of them like they grow out of shoes,” he said.
The inexpensive production through 3D printing opens up access to more people who need prostheses, and also means that they can be more customized to the clients’ unique bodies and specific needs. Peeks said the team was able to make educated recommendations for his prosthesis when he met with them. “They went beyond expectations in terms of really assessing the situation and learning what my specific needs were,” he said. “They were able to make some measurements to make sure everything was fitted correctly.” And within a couple of weeks, he said, he had a prototype (原型) ready to try on. “Their eagerness to want to help and use technology to really transform people’s lives has been a great example of humans helping humans,” Peeks said.
That practice of giving is something McCrobie hopes will continue when he graduates. The team is currently working on documenting their processes to pass them on to future classes.

A.To support an argument.

A.They are tailor-made.
B.They are mass-produced.

24、 Back in 2009, China was wrongly accused by the West of "controlling" the Copenhagen talks on climate change. By then China had truly carried out strict policies to reduce the energy consumption of economic activities and at the international level, the top Chinese leaders participated in round-clock efforts to cooperate with the major players to build a united front for efforts to solve global warming. But China was finally misjudged.
This misjudgment caused China's scholars to rethink China's climate change communicative ways. Among them was Zheng Baowei, journalism professor of Renmin University of China, who realized China had to better shape its communication on its environmental protection.
Delightfully, the efforts have paid off. Zheng set up a top-level international group advising his research team. He is in charge of doctoral candidates on climate change communication. Climate awareness surveys have been conducted, and a package of communication tools has been designed. Many seminars have been arranged.
Recently, he arranged a seminar on climate change and health communication on the changing situation both in China and the world. First of all, this stressed that China's policy has developed from reducing its energy consumption and pollution prevention to the important goals of achieving a "Beautiful China" and "'Healthy China, "while coming up with plans to realize an ecological civilization since late 2012. With such goals, China played a leading role in securing the Paris climate change deal in 2015 together with the United States and European Union. In Paris, China promised to let out its carbon to the maximum in 2030.
It is a demanding job communicating climate change and other topics of lasting development well. Despite that, some foreign scholars have realized China's smart ways in presenting the green concepts. They appreciated China's idea of building a "Beautiful China" and "Healthy China" and said it can he expanded into an idea of a "Beautiful World" and "Healthy World".
Looking back from how China had followed the steps of the industrialized countries in advocating climate fight, people find now its own green ideas are being recognized.

A. China worked successfully with other countries.

【3】What is China's policy on climate change and health communication?
A. Reducing as much energy consumption as possible to control pollution.
B. Focusing more on realizing an ecological civilization in China.
C. Communicating climate change and some other topics well.

【4】What makes China's green idea well received?
