二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Nobody ever imagined that after being lost for more than half a century the intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) known as Gaolou Mixian would be restored and passed down by a young man. “ As someone of Gaolou origin, I have a responsibility to restore our ancestors’ art form, ” said Chen Guorui, the world’s only inheritor (继承人) of this ancient art.

Gaolou Mixian uses rice paste to glue together selected grains of transparent (透明的) rice to create realistic figures or structures. It is a unique folk art that developed during the Qing Dynasty and reached its peak during the first half of the 20th century. Each household in Gaolou village would make rice structures that they put on display in their ancestral halls (祠堂) during the Chinese New Year, which attracted people from all sides.

However, due to the wet weather in southern China, these rice-made artworks would only last three to four months before losing their shape. It is for this reason that these works are not seen in museums in China. Due to various historical reasons, most people in Gaolou village did not pass down the art form, which caused it to disappear nearly 70 years ago.

Chen found out about this after hearing one former resident express disappointment about its loss. Curious, he started to do research and tried out the methods he heard about from older people in the village. After several months of exploration, Chen finally completed his first successful work.

Over the past five years, Chen has gradually improved his skills and even begun using new techniques, such as making some colorful artworks with colored grains of rice. Since 2017, people at home and abroad have taken an interest in this long-lost art form. To avoid being the last inheritor, Chen has been giving classes to some students at a primary school in Fuzhou with the support of local education authorities.

【1】What do we know about Gaolou Mixian?

A.It is stable in wet environment.

B.It is mainly made of rice.

C.It is a popular art form nationwide.

D.It was created for religious reasons.

【2】What does the underlined word “ this ” in Paragraph 4 refer to?

    A.The techniques of the artworks.

B.The disappearance of the art form.

    C.The disappointment of the villagers.

D.The reasons for shape loss of the artworks.

【3】Which of the following can best describe Chen Guorui?

    A.Cooperative and kind.

    B.Outstanding and calm.

    C.Courageous and cautious.

    D.Responsible and creative.

【4】What message does Chen’s story convey to us?

A.It’s never too old to learn.

B.Strike while the iron is hot.

C.It is no use crying over spilt milk.

D.Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.

  • 22、   Mercury (汞), an unusual element, is poisonous and can be found just about everywhere. It can also exist as an organic compound, the most common of which is methylmercury (甲基汞). While we can take steps to avoid both elemental and inorganic mercury, it is much harder to avoid methylmercury.

Most of the mercury in the environment comes from coal-burning power plants. The concentration of mercury in the air from power plants is very low, so it is not immediately dangerous. However, the mercury is then washed out of the air by rainstorms and eventually ends up in lakes and oceans.

The mercury in the water doesn’t immediately get absorbed by fish, as elemental mercury doesn’t easily spread into cells. However, methylmercury spreads into cells easily, and certain bacteria in the water change the elemental mercury to methylmercury. Methylmercury in the water spreads into plankton (浮游生物). Small animals eat the plankton and absorb the methylmercury in the plankton and then large animals eat small animals and absorb the methylmercury. Because each animal passes the methylmercury much more slowly than it absorbs it, methylmercury builds up in the animal over time and is passed on to whatever animal eats it.

As people became aware of the concentration of mercury in fish, many reacted by removing seafood from their diet. Scientists have studied the effects of mercury. By determining the levels of mercury consumption that cause any of the known symptoms of mercury poisoning, they were able to identify a safe level of mercury consumption. The current recommendation is for humans to take in less than 0.1 microgram of mercury for every kilogram of weight per day. This means that a 70-kilogram person (about 155 pounds) could safely consume 7 micrograms of mercury per day.

Nutritionists recommend that, rather than remove fish from our diet, we try to eat more of the low-mercury fish and less of the high-mercury fish. Low-mercury species tend to be smaller fish while high-mercury species tend to be the largest carnivorous (食肉的) fish. Awareness of the particulars of this problem, accompanied by mindful eating habits, will keep us on the best course for healthy eating.

【1】What does Paragraph 3 mainly explain?

A.The relationships between small animals and large animals.

B.The process by which large animals absorb mercury.

C.The reasons why mercury in the water isn’t harmful to fish.

D.The difference between methymercury and other types of mercury

【2】What should people consider when eating seafood to ensure a safe mercury intake?

A.The other meats they are eating.

    B.Where seafood was caught.

C.What they ate the day before.

    D.Their own body weight.

【3】Which of the following about mercury poisoning does the author agree with?

    A.Its symptoms remain unclear.

    B.It’s not a big deal.

    C.It can be avoided effectively.

    D.Its consequence is immediate.

【4】What can we learn from the text?

A.It’s impossible to avoid mercury completely.

B.Humans get mercury mainly from fish consumption.

C.Inorganic mercury is more harmful than organic mercury.

D.Mercury from power plants can gather together easily in the air.

  • 24、   Campeche is a city with a tumultuous history. Originally this area was settled by the Mayans. The first Spanish colonizers arrived in 1517 and established Campeche as the main port in the region. Unsurprisingly, this made Campeche an attractive target for pirates who first arrived in the late 16 century. For the next 200 years, Campeche was frequently attacked. Nevertheless, it is a delightful city and filled with interesting things to do.

Explore the old city of Campeche

There are a lot of beautiful restored old towns in Mexico, but Campeche is one of the nicest, cleanest and most elegant. The Campeche neighborhood is lovely and colorful, with neat sidewalks and smoothly laid out roads!

    Wander along the Campeche Malecon

One of the nicest things about Campeche is its waterfront setting. The best way to enjoy that? Wandering along the malecon, or the walkway along the waterfront, just before sunset. This is the time when it cools down and everyone comes out to see things and to be seen. You'll see couples posing for photographers, joggers, cyclists, elderly people having conversations and groups of teenagers giggling.

Stop for a Bite at Calle 59

Calle 59 is a pedestrian-only street filled with outdoor tables from the surrounding restaurants. You can cat here at night, but a lot of people come for drinks. This is the one place in Campeche that feels touristy—its tables are filled with giant beers that get shared among multiple peoples.

【1】Which of the following sentence can best describe Campeche?

    A.Campeche has a large population.

B.Campeche is a city with mixed heritage.

C.Campeche has experienced years of civil war.

D.Campeche once appealed to pirates for its culture.

【2】What's the best thing for visitors to do before sunset?

A.Having a nice walk along the malecon.

    B.Enjoying the atmosphere of Campeche.

    C.Drinking beers in the restaurants.

D.Taking some pictures of the sunset.

【3】If you want to sense the touristy atmosphere the best choice is_____________.

    A.Mexico.

    B.Calle 59.

    C.The Campeche neighborhood.

    D.The Campeche Malecon.
