21、 Business meetings are a necessary part of any organization where people work collectively to accomplish a goal. But badly managed, meetings can be unproductive, boring and feel like a complete waste of time. In a recent survey conducted by governance technology firm e-Share, it was found that the average UK employee spends over 10 hours weekly preparing for and attending meetings-approximately 50% of which they consider unnecessary. 【1】
It’s very likely for an AI (Artificial Intelligence) to be able to recognize when one person is hijacking a meeting, or if a discussion keeps returning to a single issue. If no new points are made after a while, the AI could suggest wrapping up. “If AI can do most of the hard routine work during meetings, that leaves more space for humans to think about strategy and vision,” believes Niki at the Big Innovation Center in AI. 【2】 The city of Osaka in Japan started using an AI as a minute taker to transcribe and summarize the 450 annual cabinet (内阁) meetings. It has divided the time needed to produce summaries and cut staff overtime.
【3】 If a meeting with irrelevant subject matter is called, or if it's an inconvenient time, an AI could be used to decide who should attend the meeting and when it should be, says Elise Keith from a US-based meeting management platform.
One Stockholm company starts up Mentimeter (人机互动).【4】 Using the software, participants can make open-ended responses, submit comments or vote in multiple-choice quizzes. “This has fundamentally changed the dynamics of a presentation,” says Austin Broad from financial services firm AFH Wealth Management.
While tools that can create agendas, send meeting invitations, distribute the minutes, and keep track of action items should improve effectiveness, they are still in development. 【5】
A.This seems to be true.
B.But AI isn’t quite there yet.
C.AI can also help with the matter of attendance.
D.With AI, it will be easy for companies to be flexible.
E.It allows meeting attendees to give feedback about a discussion.
F.Let’s hope that if they do arrive, they will meet our expectations.
G.However, there are theories that technology, like AI, could improve things.
22、A wearable interactive display made of a flexible, breathable electronic fabric can display simple maps and text messages, potentially for use in future smart clothing, a research group reports in their latest paper.
Previous research has developed flexible thin-film displays that are rollable, foldable and stretchable. However, such electronics have not yet been successfully integrated into clothing. This is because it has proven challenging to design fabric displays that are both durable over time and easy to assemble over a large area.
Now, Chinese scientists have woven bands of a new fabric display roughly 20 feet long by 10 inches wide. To make the new fabric, polymer scientists Peining Chen and Huisheng Peng at Fudan University in Shanghai and their colleagues weave electrically transparent fibers into a flexible, breathable fabric. The fabric is about as bright as the average flat-screen TV. The researchers noted their prototype (雏形) was also significantly more durable than conventional flexible thin-film displays, making it more suitable for practical use. One likely application for this is wearable displays. The researchers integrated a touch-sensitive 16-button fabric keyboard, solar-energy-harvesting threads and battery fibers into their fabric to add interactivity and a power supply. They added electronics to wirelessly link it to a smartphone via a Bluetooth connection so users could send and receive messages on their sleeves, as well as see their real-time locations on a map.
In the future, smart clothing might help display messages from people with voice, speech and language problems. And it might even work in concert with devices that can decode (译解) complex brain waves to figure out what these people would like to say but cannot. However, “putting displays with 36 volts (伏特) directly on the body may potentially be a concern,” cautioned Bao, chemical engineer at Stanford University in California.

【3】What can we infer about smart clothing from the last paragraph?
A.Such clothing poses no danger to wearers.
B.Such clothing can get wearers’ ideas across.
C.It can receive and send complex brain waves.
D.It enables people with voice problems to speak.
【4】Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?

24、Apps play tricks on you to turn an activity into a habit. It’s not necessarily a bad thing to encourage healthy behaviors such as exercising or playing word games.【1】. Here’s how to recognize when your tech habit might be an unwelcome obsession (着迷), and practical steps for you to take back control.
Do a cost-benefit analysis.【2】That’s why we need to try doubly hard to do self-assessments of how features such as streaks (打卡时间) or leaderboards are helping and hurting us. Think over whether the behavior they inspire in you contributes to or detracts from your welfare.
Build in “cheat days”. They are like days off from a strict diet.【3】It can also help to schedule days off from our habits—whether it’s running, reading the news or scrolling Instagram.
【4】Especially for young people, it can be helpful to plan in advance activities that might be a distraction. If your teen knows he’s allowed one hour on YouTube at 7 p.m., then he can relax without thinking about when he’ll be able to hop on his favorite app.
【5】Tech companies, schools, social institutions and governments all have a responsibility to help reset standards of technology use. For example, schools have experimented with locking up students’ phones so they can’t use them during the school day. And the government in some countries have restricted the time young people are allowed to spend playing video games or using social media apps.
