21、 Exam-taking doesn't come easy to many people. The experience is often stressful. Here are some tips on making better preparations for your math exam.
Set up a study schedule and stick to it. Begin your schedule several weeks before your math exam.【1】Choose a schedule that provides for regular work but does not require so much attention that you become burnt out.
Work through classroom and homework problems and practice tests. This is very useful. Practice tests will familiarize you with similar questions that will be on the exam and will get you used to writing under time pressure.【2】
Attend review sessions with teaching assistants and instructors. Ask questions whenever you are confused. Bring the problems you’ve been working on.【3】Focus on problems where you consistently arrive at the incorrect answer and can't identify the reason.
Memorize the formulas you will need for your exam. Write down the information in numbers and mathematical symbols.【4】Commit "Pi equals three point one four" instead of "Pi = 3. 14" to memory. Many people have more difficulty memorizing figures, and your memory may turn 3.14 into 3.41 if you do not focus on the words attached to the numbers.
Take care of yourself before the exam. Eat healthy food and take steps to reduce stress. The night before the exam, sleep a full night's rest and arrive on time for the exam.
As the test begins, be calm and breathe deeply if you feel anxious.【5】Make sure your work is in the appointed place, so you receive full credit for your work.
A.Speak it aloud and memorize it using words.
B.Do be careful when you copy the key formulas
C.And discuss any challenges with your instructor.
D.By doing these, you are sure to get a perfect result.
E.In this way you have time to identify where you have trouble.
F.Start with problems you can solve easily when taking the exam.
G.Working through problems will increase your skill at solving them.
22、 As we live longer and technology continues its rapid development, we can imagine a future where machines will enlarge our human abilities and help us make better life choices, from health to wealth. Through our dialogue and digital pieces, AI will understand our life goals and wishes, our duties and limitations. It will help us plan different life events, so we can spend more time enjoying life’s moments.
The ability for artificial intelligence to understand the complexities and slight differences of human conversation is, however, one hurdle. There are several thousand known living languages in the world today. Adding to the difficulties are the varied ways words are shared and used across different cultures, including grammar, levels of education and styles of the speakers. Google Duplex, the technology supporting Google Assistant, which places phone calls using a natural-sounding human voice instead of a robotic one, is an early attempt to address such challenges in human communications. But these are just initial whispers in voice of AI’s long journey.
Beyond making reservations and conducting simple dialogues, virtual assistants will need to become far more useful and further fit into the parts of our everyday lives. Not only will they need to foresee what we need before we ask, they also need to understand the context of our conversations and react accordingly. Imagine a snow day when school is canceled for the kids. Knowing that you must now stay at home with your children, your phone would remind you, asking if you’d like your meetings moved to the following day. Alternatively, imagine how much more pleasant your journey home from a business trip would be if your phone could automatically arrange for a ride waiting to pick you up at the airport, based on your travel plan, location, and habits. The possibilities are endless.
【1】What do we know about AI?
A.They narrow our abilities. B.They limit our better choice.
C.They don’t know our limitations. D.They help us enjoy life better.
【2】What makes it hard for AI to understand what humans say?
A.Low level of speakers. B.Imperfection of AI.
C.Varieties of languages and cultures. D.Similarities between languages.
【3】Which word can best describe the author’s attitude towards AI?
A.Doubtful. B.Approving.
C.Negative. D.Critical.
【4】Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?
A.AI Will Replace Humans
B.AI Will Set Goals for Us.
C.AI Will Be Part of Our Daily Lives.
D.AI Will Meet Challenges.
23、Moran works at the California Academy of Sciences, which is capped by 2.5 acres of living roof where nearly 1.7 million plants, insects and birds flourish. The building has been painstakingly designed to be among one of the most environmentally-friendly in the world. Solar panels that surround the living roof provide 5% of the building’s energy, while water flowing through pipes in the bathrooms also generates power. Automatic skylights open and close to help regulate the temperature inside the building while natural sunlight is used to light the building as much as possible. During his 15 years at the academy (研究院), Moran has helped design, build and now maintain the building’s green systems.
Constructing new environmentally-friendly buildings like the one Moran works in is expected to generate more than 6.5 million jobs by 2030, according to predictions by the International Labor Organization. Next to energy, it will be the second fastest growing sector for green jobs in the coming decades. This jobs growth comes from a growing need for buildings that can deal with multiple problems: meeting tough climate-change targets; rising energy costs, water shortages and an increased risk of extreme weather conditions. This is driving a movement known as green building.
In 2000, just 41 new construction projects were officially rated as green buildings in the US. Last year, that figure had grown to more than 65,000. Elsewhere in the world there have been similar increases and it is a trend that is expected to continue. In China the government has set an ambitious goal as part of its five-year plan that require 50% of all new urban buildings to be green certified.
Moran sees green building as requiring new skills that have not featured much in the building sector in the past. “It takes a different skill set to look after a living roof compared to normal landscaping,” he says. “You need to understand the environment, how the direction of the sun and wind will affect it. But we are also seeing technology being integrated into everything.”
【1】How was the building of the academy planned?
A.Rigidly.

A.To develop a large market.
B.To satisfy humans’ ambitions.
C.To solve different challenges.
D.To control the new movement.
【4】What does Moran possibly think of his present job?
A.Challenging.
B.Risky.
C.Traditional.
D.Urgent.
24、Hands-on experience is still attractive to many buyers, although online ordering is popular in the UK today.
Oxford Street
London is shoppers’ paradise, and most visitors head for Oxford Street. Halfway along is Sel-fridges, one of the world’s first department stores where the architecture and window dressing impress even before you go in. There are at least four other major stores on this street, plus Europe’s largest music shop. In December the atmosphere is especially festive because of the Christmas lights which are always lighted by a politician, a great sportsman, or a super star.
Kensington High Street
A fashionable area for shopping is Kensington High Street. One of its department stores even has a roof garden—good for relaxing between purchases. There’s also an organic food superstore.
Borough Market
You can’t visit London and not go to a supermarket. One of the oldest and best for food is probably Borough Market on the south bank of the Thames. Get off the underground at London Bridge and wander among fresh fish stalls, bakeries, and fruit and vegetable sellers. You can also buy specialist food to take away, like cheeses, pork pies, mustard and chutney.
More places for bargains
Portobello Road on a Saturday is your best choice for jewelry or collector’s items. It’s a short walk from the subway station at Notting Hill Gate and you never know what you will find. For clothes, Camden Market is the place. It gets a little crowded at the weekends, though. Convent Garden offers great experience for the simple pleasure of looking at jewelry and gifts.
