二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   A study by Harvard researchers found that mind wandering, or daydreaming, consumes an average of 47% of peoples’ waking hours. This brings about the question:If mind wandering is so costly to our well-being, then why in the world are we so willing to spend nearly half of our lives in this mental state?

Creative thinkers know, despite what their parents, teachers and school leaders might have told them, that daydreaming is hardly a waste of time. But unfortunately, many students learn to suppress their natural instincts to dream and imagine-instead, they’re taught to fit into a standardized model and to learn by the book, in a way that may not feel natural and that very well may suppress their natural desire to create. But as two famous psychologists recently noted, “Not all minds who wander are lost”-in fact, the mind’s wandering is vital to imagination and creative thought.

Nearly 50 years ago, psychologist Jerome L. Singer established that daydreaming is a normal and indeed widespread aspect of human experience. He found that many people are “happy daydreamers” who enjoy their inner imagery and fantasy. According to Singer, these daydreamers “simply value and enjoy their private experiences, are willing to risk wasting a certain amount of time on them, but also can apparently use them for effective planning and for self-amusement during periods of routine task activity or boredom.”

Singer coined the term positive-constructive daydreaming to describe this type of mind wandering, which he distinguished from poor attention and anxious, obsessive fantasies. By making these important distinctions, Singer was able to highlight the positive, adaptive role that daydreaming can play in our daily lives, under the right circumstances.

【1】Who are aware that daydreaming is not a waste of time?

    A.Teachers.

    B.Parents.

    C.School leaders.

    D.Creative thinkers.

【2】According to the passage, daydreaming is very important to ______.

    A.learning by the book

    B.imagination and creation

    C.suppression of inner desires

    D.instincts and amusements

【3】What does the underlined word “them” in the third paragraph refer to?

    A.Private experience.

    B.Circumstances.

    C.Fantasies.

    D.Happy dreamers.

【4】What is true of positive-constructive daydreaming according to the passage?

A.It is a useful mental state.

B.It is similar to poor attention.

C.It is an anxious. obsessive fantasy.

    D.It is a standardized model.

  • 22、You’ve probably heard this dental advice before: brush your teeth twice a day.【1】Here’s what experts have to say.

According to Dr. Mark Burhenne , a dentist based in Sunnyvale, California, the key to teeth protection is managing your biofilm(生物膜)—an outer coating on your teeth containing bacteria. In that biofilm are bacteria that pull certain minerals from saliva(唾液).【2】

When we eat things, especially sugary or acid foods, they will stick to our teeth.【3】The thicker and furry biofilm can no longer remineralize our teeth properly. The movement of the toothbrush is what breaks up the thickened biofilm so that it reforms into its natural thin and slippery state to protect teeth.

【4】 According to Alicia Murria, a dentist based in Washington, your toothpaste is going to help you to feel fresher. It’s also going to help to kill some of the bacteria inside your mouth. But the most important step in keeping your teeth clean is good brushing technique. By brushing each tooth and slightly sweeping the gum line with your brush at a 45-degree angle, you’ll be able to remove plaques(牙斑). If your brushing technique is good, even a toothbrush with water can be enough.

Murria suggests brushing your teeth first thing in the morning, before eating breakfast. If you do happen to eat first, make sure you wait at least 30 minutes before brushing. The acid from the meal softens the enamel(牙釉质).【5】

A.But whose advice should we follow?

B.The biofilm layer will get thicker and thicker.

C.But why and how are we supposed to do it?

D.Choose the right toothpaste that suits you best.

E.Funny enough, toothpaste actually does less work than you think.

F.These minerals are pulled into the teeth to prevent them from going bad.

G.So if you brush too soon you could damage that typically hard, shiny protective layer.

  • 23、American Jake Pinnick comes from a small town called Kewanee.

Pinnick said when he told friends and family he wanted to go to the Wudang Kungfu Academy in China, the response was typical. "It's not a usual thing to say, but it is pretty normal for kids to want to get out of a place like Kewanee. Most kids say something like they want to move to Hollywood and become an actor, " said the 30-year-old. “When I first thought about it, it was daydreaming for myself, too.”

Once he found himself at the academy, Pinnick said fitting in was softened by other foreigners who were in the area and a part of the school. Getting used to the way of life was surprisingly easy given the peaceful nature to it. Pinnick said after a while, he found himself more at home in Wudang than he ever felt back home in Kewanee. Locals were more than welcoming and willing to engage.

“The culture shock wasn't that bad. Surprisingly, I find I have more of that going back to America now... learning the language did take some time, but everyone around the school was familiar with foreigners, so we had a lot of fun speaking broken English and Chinese back and forth at the start.”

After he settled into a routine, Pinnick set about engaging himself in Chinese culture, including Kungfu training. He was also attracted by the philosophical tradition most well-known for the idea of living in harmony with the universe.

Pinnick said he had to go home after the first six months and immediately wanted to return to China, feeling as if it had now become his home more than America, and he had begun a process of rewriting himself as a person overseas.

His life now goes around training, teaching and studying. He graduated from the academy in 2014 and still helps teach there.

Pinnick said the goal is to one day return to America and teach what he has learned. Looking back on his amazing journey, Pinnick said he has grown by leaps and bounds from a small-town American kid who had a daydream he could not shake.

【1】What did Pinnick's family think of his idea of learning Kungfu?

    A.Unrealistic.

    B.Creative.

    C.Challenging.

    D.Disappointing.

【2】What mainly helped Pinnick get used to the life in China?

    A.His fluent Chinese.

    B.The friendly local culture.

    C.His peaceful nature.

    D.Other foreign teachers there.

【3】What did Pinnick gain from his experience in China?

    A.A career choice.

    B.A large fortune.

    C.A Kungfu certificate.

    D.A good reputation.
