二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Our clothes do a lot for us. They keep us warm in the winter or cool while we’re working out. They let us dress to impress or comfortably veg out on the couch with the TV on. But some researchers think our clothes could be doing even more. Those scientists and engineers are dreaming up new ways to make clothes safer, more comfortable or just more convenient.

Some ideas for new clothes aim to protect people from harm. One new shoe design, for example, features pop-out spikes (鞋钉) on the sole that grip the ground. This could help people keep their footing on slippery or uneven ground. A new fabric coating, meanwhile, could absorb and neutralize (中和) some chemical weapons. That coating is made from a metal-organic framework that breaks down harmful compounds. It could offer protection to people in war-torn countries.

Not all advanced clothing is designed to save lives. Some could just make clothes more comfortable. One day, for instance, you may not need to layer up to stay warm. Fabric filled with nanowires could reflect your body heat back onto your skin. Electric current humming through those metal threads could provide warmth, too. This maybe especially useful for hikers, soldiers or others working in super cold conditions.

Some researchers have dream up wholly new uses for clothing —like turning wearers into walking power outlets. Flexible solar panels sewn into fabric could absorb the sun to recharge phones or other devices on the go. Another team threaded fabric with magnetized (磁化的) copper and silver to write data into fabrics. Such data-packed fabric could be used as a hands-free key or form of ID.

Many of these ideas have not yet left the lab—and they’re still pretty far from hitting retail (零售) shelves. But inventors hope these and other innovations could someday let you get more from your clothes.

  • 22、A Lighter Touch

In recent years, superheroes such as Superman, Thor, Iron Man, and Black Panther have starred in film series with complex, serious storylines about the end of the universe. However, the makers of Shazam! which came out in China on April 5,have a different opinion on the superhero movie.

It’s “just a light, funny...action comedy about a boy in a superman's body”, wrote Owen Gleiberman in his review for Variety magazine.

Billy Batson, the film's main character, is a 14-year-old who's been in and out of foster homes(寄养家庭). One day, on the way to another home, Batson escapes to the subway and meets a wizard(巫师), who gives him magical powers. Whenever Batson says "Shazam", he changes into an adult-sized man with superhuman strength.

But how does he use his new superpowers? With the help of his new foster brother Freddie Freeman, Batson tests his strength like any teenager would do-by breaking the rules. He breaks a soda machine to get a drink, tricks his teachers, and even buys beer.

While the film is fun and joyous, it also has emotional weight. A major part of the story is Batson searching for his real mother. And later when Batson faces the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, a former misfit kid himself, he realizes that his new found superpowers can't solve all the problems, and that he has something valuable to protect-his new family.

  • 23、   Bad drivers in the District could soon get a serious warning sent straight to their cellphones. The city is working to identify drivers with a history of traffic violations, such as speeding and red-light carnet tickets, to send messages alerting them of their history of infractions (违规) while warning of their risks of getting into a fatal crash.

City officials say they hope the pointed messages (定制信息) will deter dangerous road behaviors. "Wu know that there is a subset of drivers that are putting others at serious risk with excessive speeding and red-light running," said Jeff Marootian, director of the city's Department of Transportation, one of the agencies leading the effort. "We're hoping that this creative approach can ultimately reduce serious injury and fatality crashes.”

"This is a creative approach that we haven't tried before, and we think that it is worth the effort,"  Marootian said. The concept, which D.C. officials say is a first among cities nationwide, is the latest effort to target dangerous drivers in a city where serious and fatal crashes are on the rise. City leaders said evidence shows drivers with multiple traffic violations are more likely to be involved in crashes.

Researchers have studied the relationship between repeat traffic offenders and serious collisions (碰撞),with some data suggesting a strong connection between the two. But some researchers also have pointed to other factors at play, such as the amount of time the driver spends on the road and exposure to traffic enforcement (强制性)systems.

A team from The Lab led by Muriel E. Bowser, is examining data from the District's automated traffic enforcement program to predict a driver's likelihood of being involved in a serious crash. It will create a campaign that could include text messages and mail sent to a sample of high-risk drivers. "We will evaluate whether drivers who receive these messages have fewer red-light violations, speeding violations, and Ultimately, clashes, compared to the group of high-risk drivers who do not receive the messages,"  according to The Lab.

The program is among the latest road-safety measures with the purpose of cutting the  growing number of traffic injuries and fatalities. Although the new messages appear as a warning to higher-risk drivers city officials said the intent is to educate the recipient, Marootian said there is no violation or fine attached to the message and that the campaign is to use data to directly communicate with individual drivers. Some questioned whether the message will work.

【1】What does the underlined word “deter” in paragraph 2 probably mean?

    A.Prevent.

    B.Change.

    C.Control.

    D.Handle.

【2】What do we know about the approach to sending pointed messages?

A.It may put the drivers at serious risk of crashing.

B.It can identify drivers with records of traffic accidents.

C.It will completely reduce serious injury and fatality crashes.

D.It is the newest attempt in response to the rising crashes.

【3】What can we infer from the fourth paragraph?

A.Traffic offenders always cause serious accidents.

B.New drivers bear less blame for serious collisions.

C.Different elements may contribute to serious accidents.

D.Traffic offenders should spend too much time on the road.

【4】How do the team from The Lab know whether the approach works?

A.By sending messages to the drivers.

B.By comparing the impact of the approach on two groups.

C.By predicting the possibility of a driver's involvement in a crash.

D.By checking the response of the receivers who get the messages.

【5】What is the text mainly about?

    A.A traffic report.

    B.A scientific method.

    C.A professional survey.

    D.A teaching program.

  • 24、   Campeche is a city with a tumultuous history. Originally this area was settled by the Mayans. The first Spanish colonizers arrived in 1517 and established Campeche as the main port in the region. Unsurprisingly, this made Campeche an attractive target for pirates who first arrived in the late 16 century. For the next 200 years, Campeche was frequently attacked. Nevertheless, it is a delightful city and filled with interesting things to do.

Explore the old city of Campeche

There are a lot of beautiful restored old towns in Mexico, but Campeche is one of the nicest, cleanest and most elegant. The Campeche neighborhood is lovely and colorful, with neat sidewalks and smoothly laid out roads!

    Wander along the Campeche Malecon

One of the nicest things about Campeche is its waterfront setting. The best way to enjoy that? Wandering along the malecon, or the walkway along the waterfront, just before sunset. This is the time when it cools down and everyone comes out to see things and to be seen. You'll see couples posing for photographers, joggers, cyclists, elderly people having conversations and groups of teenagers giggling.

Stop for a Bite at Calle 59

Calle 59 is a pedestrian-only street filled with outdoor tables from the surrounding restaurants. You can cat here at night, but a lot of people come for drinks. This is the one place in Campeche that feels touristy—its tables are filled with giant beers that get shared among multiple peoples.

    A.Campeche has a large population.

B.Campeche is a city with mixed heritage.

D.Campeche once appealed to pirates for its culture.

【2】What's the best thing for visitors to do before sunset?

A.Having a nice walk along the malecon.

    B.Enjoying the atmosphere of Campeche.

    C.Drinking beers in the restaurants.

D.Taking some pictures of the sunset.

【3】If you want to sense the touristy atmosphere the best choice is_____________.
