二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Have you ever chatted with a friend about buying a certain item and been targeted with an ad for that same item the next day? If so, you may have wondered whether your smartphone was “listening” to you.

We can definitely say that your phone is listening to you via your device s onboard microphone. It always has to listen to you so it can hear your voice command and assist you. Why is my phone listening to me? When you ask Siri to find something, this information is used for targeted ads. It’s not different from typing something into Baidu. If you’re looking for car dealerships in your city, related ads will start chasing you across the Internet in a way a virtual assistant is just another search engine.

What’s worse, your device doesn’t need to listen to your conversations. There’s a good chance you’re already giving it all the information it needs. Most of us regularly disclose our information to a wide range of websites and apps. We do this when we grant them certain permissions, or allow “cookies” to track our online activities.

So-called cookies allow websites to “remember” certain details about our interaction with the site. For instance, login cookies let you save your login details so you don’t have to re-enter them each time. The cookie will host marketer’s ads and grant it access to data it collects from you (which you will have given it permission to do—perhaps by clicking on some harmless looking popup).

As such, the advertiser can build a picture of your life: your routines, wants and needs. These companies constantly seek to evaluate the popularity of their products and how this varies based on factors such as a customer’s age, gender, height, weight, job and hobbies.

【1】Why does the author mention “Siri” and “Baidu” in paragraph 2?

    A.To explain a rule.

    B.To draw a conclusion.

    C.To make a prediction.

    D.To clarify a view.

【2】What is the author’s attitude to the personal information being tracked by websites?

    A.Unfavorable.

    B.Tolerant.

    C.Positive.

    D.Unclear.

【3】How can the companies constantly seek to evaluate the popularity of their products?

A.By ringing you for your routines, wants and needs.

B.By enquiring your friends about your preferences.

C.By buying your personal information secretly.

D.By collecting your routines, wants and needs.

【4】Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?

A.Your smart phone is “listening” to you.

B.You can’t live without the smart phone.

C.Baidu Search engine is helping you.

D.Audio Siri is always helping you.

  • 22、   Believe it or not, 43,000,000 Americans are gardening. That is about one in six. Gardeners, of course, come in many varieties.

Abhi Arora used to be in the tech field. Like so many people, he sat at a desk all day, staring at a screen. Due to the stress of always staying indoors and in front of a computer, he started getting anxiety issues. To recharge and refresh, he visited a local garden in California. He noticed the shift in his mood, emotions, and improvement in his mental health overall during each visit.

Arora became friends and later business partners with the garden's owner, farmer Rishi Kumar, Kumar studied computer science in college but became obsessed with plants and gardening. He now runs Sarvodaya Farms in Pomona, Califomia. "Rishi and I met an old man who was healing himself and his son through the power of gardens. It was then that I realized that we could help others feel the same connection to the healing power of gardens," Arora says. The two co-founded Healing Gardens, an online marketplace where people can rent their organic urban gardens or farms for use by the hour.

“I've always had a love for plants and wildlife, so with Healing Gardens we want to bring easy access to the wellness benefits of nature to our community and at the same time do our part in regenerating our planet." Arora says.

Healing Gardens is based on the simple idea that most people enjoy being surrounded by plants and animals. A healing garden is a restorative outdoor space that has been specifically designed to steer the restless mind away from circling thoughts and towards the presence of the senses.

In addition to offering private time for visitors to just spend time alone in the garden or at the farm, individual hosts may also offer events and activities like yoga classes, mediation sessions, and goat petting for kids. Beautiful imagery, luscious smells, birdsongs, and more, gently invite the guest at a Healing Garden to presence.

【1】How did Arora feel after he visited local gardens?

    A.More stressed.

    B.More anxious.

    C.More emotional.

    D.More relaxed.

【2】What led Arora to set up Healing Gardens?

A.The idea of looking for a new job.

B.An experience in a garden in California.

C.The bright future of the online business.

    D.Kumar’s knowledge in computer science.

【3】What’s the purpose of founding the Healing Gardens?

    A.To earn more money.

    B.To promote the produce.

    C.To provide leisure places.

D.To bring the benefits of nature to people.

【4】What do we know about the Healing Gardens?

    A.Recovery rooms are available.

B.People can spend time alone for free.

C.A wide variety of activities are provided.

D.People can enjoy performances by trained animals.

  • 23、   It’s almost spring, the time of year when the change in seasons could lead to some pretty fascinating cloud activity in the sky. NASA and the GLOBE Program are inviting you to take part in a citizen science cloud observation challenge.

The GLOBE Program is an international science and education program providing the public with the opportunity to participate in the scientific process. From March 15 through April 15, citizen scientists can make up to 10 cloud observations per day using the GLOBE Observer app or one of the other data entry options (for trained GLOBE members). Challenge participants with the most observations will be congratulated by a NASA scientist in a video posted on the GLOBE Program’s website and social media.

“The GLOBE Program is offering this challenge to show how important it is to NASA to have citizen scientist observations from ground up,” said Marile Colon Robles, lead for the GLOBE Clouds team at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia.

Researchers use and value this citizen science cloud data because it helps confirm data from Earth-observing instruments.

Scientists at Langley work with a set of six instruments known as the Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System (CERES). Even though CERES’ instruments use advanced technology, it is not always easy for researchers to positively identify all types of clouds in their images.

For example, it can be difficult to tell thin, wispy cirrus clouds (细小的卷云) from snow, since both are cold and bright; it is even more so when cirrus clouds are above a surface with patchy snow (片状雪) or snow cover. One solution is to look at satellite images from a particular area and compare them to data submitted by citizen scientists on the ground.

“Looking at what an observer recorded as clouds and looking at their surface observations really helps us better understand the images that were matched from the satellite,” said Colon Robles.

You don’t have to be a cloud-gazing professional to participate. For those who want to be part of the challenge but don’t have a lot of experience identifying clouds, Colon Robles offers the following advice: “Just go outside. The more clouds you observe, the more comfortable you’ll be collecting data.”

【1】What does the author intend to do in paragraph 1?

    A.Provide background information.

    B.Present an argument.

    C.Attract readers’ attention.

    D.Offer advice to readers.

【2】Why do researchers launch the cloud observation challenge?

A.The GLOBE Program is badly short of hands.

B.The technology CERES uses is not advanced.

C.Cirrus clouds are difficult to identify with snow cover.

D.Scientists can compare data from different instruments.

【3】What can we learn from the passage?

A.Citizen observers can only submit data by means of an app.

B.Observers with the most observations will receive a special honor.

C.Observations from the ground are not as valuable as satellite images.

D.The data collected by citizen scientists will be posted on social media.

【4】Which is the best title for the passage?

    A.NASA to Employ New Members.

B.Cloud Activities Bring a New Challenge.

C.Scientists to Teach You to Observe Clouds.

    D.Citizens Gain Experience through Observation.

  • 24、   Sandy, a young Chinese Singaporean, is fluent in English and Mandarin, the official “mother tongue” of Chinese Singaporeans. Her grandmother spoke little of either.

Their language barrier was the product of decades of linguistic(语言的) engineering. English has been the language of teaching in nearly all schools since 1987, to promote Singapore’s global competitive advantage. But, depending on ethnicity(种族特点), pupils study a second language-typically Mandarin, Malay or Tamil. In the case of Mandarin, its acquisition has been promoted by the government’s annual “Speak Mandarin Campaign”, started in 1979.

So dialects - Hokkien, Cantonese and Hakka - were disparaged. In the early 1980s television and radio programming in these languages almost disappeared. By the campaign’s own standard, the success is striking. The use of Chinese dialects at home has fallen down from 76% of Chinese households in 1980 to 16% in 2015. Over the same period, the use of Mandarin rose, from 13% of Chinese households to 46%.

In 2015, the 50th anniversary of the nation’s founding was accompanied by a rush of sentimentality over Singapore’s roots. These days officials are a bit readier to tolerate Singapore’s linguistic variety. Meanwhile, younger Singaporeans are embracing former mother tongues. Ski Yeo and Eugene Lee were motivated to found LearnDialect.sg upon seeing an elderly Cantonese-speaker in a nursing home struggle to communicate that she was cold. Health workers have signed up to their courses, while others want to say the right things at family gatherings over the lunar new year.

1What can we know about the Speak Mandarin Campaign?

A.It made Mandarin an official language in 1987.

B.Mandarin was greatly strengthened as a result of it.

C.It was held every other year since 1979.

D.It makes no difference to young people in Singapore.

2Which of the following can replace the underlined word “disparaged” in the third paragraph?

    A.Strengthened. B.Praised.

    C.Undervalued. D.Well-understood.

3What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A.Young people lack communication with their family.

B.Health workers are faced with difficulties due to language barrier.

C.The officials object to the variety of languages.

D.The younger generation of Singapore attach importance to Mandarin.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My husband has been out of town for work this past week. When he travels, he typically is only gone for a day or two, but this time it was a few days longer. He was set to come home last night, but as he boarded the plane his fight was announced canceled and he had to return to the hotel to wait for the next fight. He learned very quickly the city was struggling due to high crime rate. He was not able to get a Uber or taxi at 4:30 a.m. to get to the airport for his flight due to workers being fearful of their lives. When I told my kids dad was not going to be home that night, they were both upset.

My husband was the head coach of my 5-year old’s baseball team. They had a game the next morning and my husband was trying so badly to make it home in time. The thought of possibly missing our son’s game rally made him mad. He wanted to be there because this was their thing and he didn’t want to let him or the other boys down.

A young man by the name of Asher, who worked at the hotel my husband stayed at, overheard my husband’s dilemma. He realized he was not able to get transportation to the airport. This young man offered to wake up and get my husband to the airport at 4:30 a.m. My husband was in shock -a complete stranger would offer to do such a big act of kindness. When he called me to tell me the possible ride, he was so hopeful. This young man honored his word and brought my husband to the airport safely.

I didn’t want to get my son’s hopes up, so I told him, “Dad is trying to get home for your game but I am not sure whether he will make it.” That morning, on the way to the baseball field, both my kids looked up in the sky the entire ride to the field and pointed at planes in the sky saying, “Maybe that’s dad’s plane.”

    注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答
