二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、About five years ago, an American electrical engineer named Scott Brusaw and his wife Julie came up with the idea of putting solar panels on the ground rather than the roof. Then they began to develop the Solar Roadway. The Solar Roadway is an intelligent road that provides clean renewable energy using power from the sun while providing safer driving conditions, along with power and data delivery. They predict that the Solar Roadway will pay for itself through the generation of electricity along with other forms of income and that the same money that is being used to build and resurface current roads can be used to build the Solar Roadways.

Each Solar Road Panel measures roughly 4 meters by 4 meters and contains a microprocessor (微处理器) that monitors and controls the panel, while communicating with neighboring panels and the vehicles traveling overhead. The inventors suggest that this provides a communications device every 4 meters on every road which could be used for example to warn drivers of cars which are moving across a centre line and various other speed control problems. The top of the Solar Road panels is made of super-strong glass that would offer vehicles the tractions (抓地力) they need.

According to the inventors, the Solar Roadway creates and carries clean renewable electricity and therefore electric vehicles can be recharged at any conveniently located rest stop, or at any business that has paved Solar Road Panels in their parking lots.

The inventors say their Solar Roadway has many functions and advantages from main roads to driveways, parking lots, bike paths, sidewalks and runways. The Federal Highway Administration has given Brusaw $100,000 to develop the invention and Brusaw hopes to build a smart-road parking lot in the coming spring .

【1】In the inventors’ opinion, the Solar Roadway _____.

    A. is too expensive to build at present

    B. costs no more money than current roads

    C. can provide as many data as present computers

    D. will bring them a large sum of money

2 It can be inferred from the text that _____.

    A. the Solar Roadway has already been put into use

    B. $100,000 is only enough to build a smart-road parking lot

    C. the Solar Roadway is not available for gas-powered cars

    D. future electric vehicles can be charged anytime and anywhere

3What can be the best title for the text?

    A.  Solar-powered smart road of the future

    B. The great changes on the roadway

    C. The influence the Solar Roadway has on people

    D. The Solar Road a much faster road

  • 22、Our Teen Summer Spanish Program is two weeks of fun, educational excitement that helps students learn Spanish fast. Our Spanish summer program allows our students to learn from highly trained, certified teachers and be absorbed in the language and the culture of Costa Rica.

    Features include:

    * Intensive(强化的) daily Spanish classes

    * Extracurricular classes in dance, cooking, music, and handiwork

    * Outdoor activities including hiking, camping, rafting, and ziplining(高空滑索)

    * Homestay with a local Costa Rican family

    * Volunteer work in needy neighborhoods

    Our Teaching Methods:

We are proud to use TPRS---Total Physical Response Storytelling---in our curriculum. This innovative method uses strange and amusing stories to teach new vocabulary, increase fluency, and get students involved by giving them the opportunity to alter the details themselves. Because of the silliness, creativity, and repetition involved, TPRS allows students to learn easily and remember information effortlessly

Memorizing vocabulary and listening to lectures on grammar are slow, inefficient ways to learn a new language. The best way to truly learn and commit new material to memory is through conversation. In our Spanish classes, students can expect to speak up to 80% of each class. By speaking in the new language freely and consistently, students can see progress faster because they are using the new grammar and vocabulary that they have learned at the same time. This helps the brain remember the new words and grammar structures for future use, making it much easier to progress.

    【1】What does the program do?

    A.It offers weekly Spanish classes

B.It focuses more on outdoor activities

C.It gives teachers a chance to receive training

D.It provides activities about the Spanish culture

【2】What is the best way to learn a language according to the text?

    A.Memorizing a larger vocabulary

B.Speaking more in the new language.

    C.Mastering more grammar structures

D.Writing stories to share with others

【3】What is the purpose of the text?

    A.To employ experienced Spanish teacher

B.To hire foreign volunteers for a program

C.To attract teen foreigners to a program

    D.To introduce language learning methods

  • 23、   When it comes to making healthy lifestyle changes, which should come first-changing your diet or becoming more physically active?

Previous studies suggested that providing people with too much information about nutrition and physical activity at once tends(趋向)to be discouraging. That has led to the popularity of advising people to make changes gradually, and set smaller goals.

So the scientists divided 200 inactive participants who were 45 or older into four groups. One group was instructed in making diet and fitness changes at the same time; the second group was taught about diet changes first, and then fitness changes four months later; the third group changed their exercise habits first and made changes in their eating habits four months later; and the final, control group was not instructed in either diet or fitness changes but in how to manage their stress.

The researchers followed the groups for a full year. Compared to the control group, the three intervention(干预)groups made healthy changes in their diet. Those who changed their fitness habits first significantly increased the amount of exercise they received daily compared to the other groups after four months. However, at the end of the year, the group that changed both diet and exercise at the same time was the only one that met the nationally recommended targets for both exercise and nutrition levels, while those who worked on improving their nutrition first were unable to meet the recommended levels of fitness after a year. The researchers suspect that changes to diet are easier to make than changes to physical activity.

The findings show, however, that pairing diet and exercise changes may help to overcome some of the barriers people face in adding more physical activity into their lives. If folks change diet and exercise orderly, the scientists say, they may end up placing more importance on the first set of behavior changes and feel less pressured to address the second set.

    1How is Paragraph 3 developed?

A.By giving examples. B.By making comparisons.

C.By analyzing causes. D.By making classifications.

2Which group was the most physically active after four months?

A.The first group. B.The second group.

C.The third group. D.The control group.

3What might the scientists approve of?

A.Changing eating habits first may be reasonable.

B.Diet and exercise changes should be made orderly.

C.Diet and exercise changes are equally hard to make.

D.Diet and exercise should be processed at the same time.

4Which of the following is probably the title of the passage?

A.Changing your habits for better health

B.Ways to lead a healthy and balanced life

C.Making healthy lifestyle changes really counts

D.Timing matters in making diet and exercise changes

  • 24、Amy Fang has recently been asked a lot about how her handbag matches her vest (马甲). A few months ago, they belonged to the same grey jacket that she bought five years ago. “I’ve been telling people around me that if you have clothes that carry emotional value and you don’t want to get rid of them, you can have them upcycled (升级改造),” says Fang.

Fashion’s waste problem places a huge burden on the environment, awareness of which partly drives upcycle actions. The fashion industry contributes 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, according to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. Upcycling, or making unwanted materials into new products, is an important solution that goes hand in hand with recycling and reuse.

In China’s big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, the trend is beginning to make an impact. Retopia, a sustainable lifestyle platform backed by student designer incubator Labelhood Youtopia, hosted a pop-up in a shopping centre in Shanghai to sell secondhand or upcycled clothes—70% of over 1,000 items were sold, according to the platform.

Haiyan Zhong, co-founder of Another Aura, which helped Fang find a new life for her old jacket, explains how her startup fits into the wider sustainability fashion context in China. “One part of it is to use natural, organic or biodegradable materials in making the clothes,” she says. “The other part is how to deal with the clothes and the materials they’re made from in their afterlife.”

Customers like Fang can help to influence the next generation. She is happy to see how her upcycle mindset rubs off on her 16-year-old daughter. “My daughter was very impressed with the final products from Another Aura. I hope she can be conscious of her purchases as well and adopt the same habit in the future.”

【1】What does Amy Fang think about her vest?

    A.It is of little use.

    B.It has cost too much.

    C.It contains a certain feeling.

D.It should be donated to others.

【2】What can we learn from the text?

A.The fashion industry is environmentally friendly.

B.Another Aura attaches importance to materials of clothes.

C.Retopia is the first to sell upcycled clothes.

D.Recycling is not a solution to the waste problem.

【3】What does the phrase “rubs off ” in the last paragraph probably mean?

    A.Shocks.

    B.Affects.

    C.Amuses.

    D.Threatens.

【4】Which can be a suitable title for the text?

    A.China’s Upcycling Trend

  • 26、Directions: Read the following three passages. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Should You Disinfect Your Online Shopping?

People who are self-isolating are increasingly relying on grocery deliveries. This raises a new worry: whether delivered goods carry the new coronavirus. Research suggests it can spread via particles in the air, but also via surfaces. How long can the virus survive and how can we protect ourselves?

COVID-19 is a respiratory(呼吸道的)illness and is largely transmitted via drops in the air from coughing or sneezing, says John Lednicky at the University of Florida. The new virus has also been found to persist on surfaces. A team led by Vincent Munster at the US National Institute of persist on surfaces. A team led by Vincent Munster at the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Montana found it may survive on plastic and stainless steel for up to 72 hours.

But other research suggests the coronaviruses that cause SARS and MERS can persist on metal, glass and plastic for up to nine days. Research by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggested that traces of the new coronavirus could be on surfaces for even longer; its RNA was detected in cabins of people who had vacated the Diamond Princess cruise ship 17 days earlier, including those without symptoms.

This doesn't necessarily mean these virus particles could still infect other people, says Lednicky. How long virus particles remain active depends on various factors. Those coughed or sneezed out may be covered in a layer of mucus(黏液)that helps them survive longer. Surface survival may also be affected by UV light, which can destroy the ability of some viruses to reinfect us. Heat and higher humidity can also inactivate viruses.

Is it worth trying to disinfect your shopping? Lednicky doesn't think so. Most household cleaning products won't kill coronaviruses, he says. Even if you use one that does, you're unlikely to be able to clean every nook and cranny of, for example, a bunch of grapes. It is more practical to practise social distancing and good personal hygiene, he says.
