二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Once upon a time, there was a little girl whose passion for pink was so over the top that Cinderella herself might have thought it was too much.

But this story has no ending – at least not yet. For a time, I – the mother in this fairy tale – worried it would end badly. I imagined that the princess obsession (痴迷) was the beginning of my daughter, Mari, becoming shallow. I feared that as an adult, she’d be easy prey (猎物) for marketing campaigns trying to get her to spend her hard-earned cash on makeup and face creams. But what concerned me most was that she would base her self-worth on her looks, which wouldn’t be good for her self-esteem (自尊).

Mari’s love for pink isn’t unique. Across America and beyond, there are millions of these little princesses. They cover their walls with pictures of princesses, and insist on wearing their princess dresses every day. But what does it all mean? Is it really something for me to worry about? A 2016 study found that princess obsessions in young women weren’t associated with body esteem. So I could tell parents of “little princesses” to relax, but of course we’re parents, so that would be pointless.

My daughter just turned 6, and she still loves dressing up and playing princess. She loves animals just as much though, and she spends a fair amount of time pretending she’s a puppy called Sonia. She can’t pass a large rock without trying to climb it, and she likes playing games, but only with rules she makes up.

As my daughter enters this next stage of her childhood, I should remember what her “royal days” have taught me. All of her passions – like her princess obsession – are truly hers. My opinion of what she should accept or reject is misguided. My job is not to stand in her way, but to clear the path ahead of her when I can, holding her hand as she travels along it.

【1】Why was Cinderella mentioned in the first paragraph?

A.The girls’ love for pink was even stronger than Cinderella’s.

B.The little girl liked Cinderella very much.

C.Cinderella was the girl’s best friend.

D.Cinderella thought highly of the girl’s love for pink.

【2】The author was worried about her daughter’s princess obsession mainly because ________.

A.she knew her daughter couldn’t turn out a princess

B.she didn’t have enough money to buy her expensive makeups

C.her daughter would care more about her appearance than who she really was

D.her daughter would make friends with people who were not good for her self-esteem

【3】What can we know about Mari from the underlined sentence in paragraph 4?

A.She is too little to pass the rock.

    B.She is a good climber.

C.She is a lively and playful girl.

D.She is not afraid of difficulty.

【4】What suggestions will the author probably give to most parents?

A.They should not be worried enough about the kid’s growth.

B.They should guide their children whenever they want.

C.They should watch the kids over in case they make possible mistakes.

D.They should protect the kid’s nature and help them grow.

  • 23、Growing up, I remember my father as a silent, serious man—not the sort of person around whom one could laugh. As a teenager arriving in America, knowing nothing, I wanted a father who could explain the human journey. In college, when friends called home for advice, I would sink into deep depression for what I did not have.

Today, at twenty-seven, I have come to rediscover them in ways that my teenage mind would not allow—as adults and as friends with their own faults and weaknesses.

One night after my move back home, I overheard my father on the telephone. There was some trouble. Later, Dad shared the problem with me. Apparently my legal training had earned me some privileges in his eyes. I talked through the problem with Dad, analyzing the purposes of the people involved and offering several negotiation strategies(策略).He listened patiently before finally admitting, “I can’t think like that. I am a simple man.”

Dad is a brilliant scientist who can deconstruct the building blocks of nature. Yet human nature is a mystery to him. That night I realized that he was simply not skilled at dealing with people, much less the trouble of a conflicted teenager. It’s not in his nature to understand human desires.

And so, there it was—it was no one’s fault that my father held no interest in human lives while I placed great importance in them. We are at times born more sensitive, wide-eyed, and dreamy than our parents and become more curious and idealistic than them. Dad perhaps never expected me for a child. And I, who knew Dad as an intelligent man, had never understood that his intelligence did not cover all of my feelings.

It has saved me years of questioning and confusion. I now see my parents as people who have other relationships than just Father and Mother. I now overlook their many faults and weaknesses, which once annoyed me.

I now know my parents as friends: people who ask me for advice; people who need my support and understanding. And I’ve come to see my past clearer.

【1】What was the author’s impression of her father when she was a teenager?

    A. Friendly but irresponsible.

    B. Intelligent but severe.

    C. Cold and aggressive.

    D. Caring and communicative.

【2】 Why did the author feel depressed when her friends called home?

    A. She did not have a phone to call home.

    B. Her father did not care about her human journey.

    C. Her father was too busy to answer her phone.

    D. Her father couldn’t give her appropriate advice.

【3】 After the author overheard her father on the telephone, _________ .

    A. he blamed her for impoliteness.

    B. he rediscovered human nature.

    C. he consulted with her about his problem.

    D. he changed his attitude towards the author.

【3】Which of the following is the best title of this passage?

    A. My Parents as Friends.

    B. My Parents as advisors.

    C. My father—a serious man.

    D. My father—an intelligent scientist.

  • 24、   We walk, talk and sleep with our phones. But are we more — or less-connected? Just as remarkable as the power of mobility, over everything from love to global development, is how fast it all happened. It is hard to think of any tool, any instrument, any object in history with which so many developed so close a relationship so quickly as we have with our phones. Not the knife or match, the pen or page. Only money comes close—always at hand, don't leave home without it. But most of us don't take a wallet to bed with us. don't reach for it and check it every few minutes, and however useful money is in pursuit of fame, romance, revolution, it is inert compared with a smart phone — which can replace your wallet now anyway.

So how do we feel about this? To better understand attitudes about mass mobility, Time, in cooperation with Qualcomm, started the Time Mobility Poll, a survey of close to 5,000 people of all age groups and income levels in eight countries. Even the best survey can be only a snapshot in time, but this is revealing a lot about both where we are now and where the mobile wave is taking us next.

Not for a day — in most cases not even for an hour. In Time's Poll, 1 in 4 people check it every 30 minutes, 1 in 5 every 10 minutes. A third of respondents admitted that being without their mobile for even short periods leaves them feeling anxious. It is a form of sustenance, that constant feed of news and notes and nonsense, to be the point that twice as many people would pick their phones over their lunch if forced to choose. Three-quarters of 25-to 29-year-olds sleep with their phones.

Americans are grateful for the connection and convenience their phones provide, helping them search for a lower price, navigate a strange city, expand a customer base or track their health and finances, their family and friends. But in some ways Americans are still ambivalent (矛盾的); more than 9 in 10 Brazilians and Indians agreed that being constantly connected is mostly a good thing. America's 76% was actually the lowest score.

1What can have a comparison with phones?

    A.A pen. B.A knife.

    C.A match. D.Money.

2It can be inferred that a smart phone can also have the function of ______

    A.paying bills. B.helping sleep.

    C.pursuit money. D.cutting things.

3Why did Time start the Time Mobility Poll?

A.Because it wanted to cooperate with Qualcomm.

B.Because it wanted to know where the mobile wave was taking us.

C.Because it wanted to learn people's attitudes to mass mobility

D.Because it wanted to know how well the mobile wave went.

4What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us?

A.Mobile phones have become a tool to sleep with.

B.Mobile phones have become a way to get news.

C.Mobile phones have become a tool to order food.

D.Mobile phones have become a must in daily life.

5According to the passage. Americans are less ______.

A.likely to show appreciation to their phones.

    B.constantly connected than Indians.

C.likely to search for a lower price.

D.likely to find ways in a strange city.

  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

A wealthy couple was preparing to throw a big New Year’s party in their house. So they went shopping at the market where everything was of high cost and fixed price. They wanted to maintain a high standard of living so they didn’t mind paying a lot for it. After purchasing everything they needed, they called a porter to carry everything and drop it off at their home. The porter who came was of an old age, not very healthy looking. His clothes were torn and he looked as if he wasn’t even able to meet his daily needs.

The couple asked the porter about the charges for delivering their goods to their home. The old porter quoted just $20, a price well below the market rate for delivering. Yet, they argued and bargained with the porter and finally settled for $15. The porter was struggling to make money for every single meal so he needed anything he could earn.

The couple was very happy thinking how well they had bargained with the poor porter. They paid him $15 in advance and left after giving the porter their address for delivery. They reached their home and one hour passed, two hours passed, but the porter still hadn’t delivered their goods.

The wife started to get angry at her husband, “I always tell you not to trust such a person but you never listen to me. Such a person is not even able to earn to feed himself for one time in a day, and you handed him everything we purchased for our big party. I am sure instead of delivering our goods to our home, he must have disappeared with everything. We must immediately go back to the market to inquire and then to the police station to file a complaint against him.”

They both left towards the market. On their way, near the market, they saw another porter. They stopped him to inquire about the old porter and noticed that he was carrying their goods in his cart!
