21、 Walk past any Bath & Body Works store and you' ll see a colourful display of popular antibacterial soaps. Sold in thick plastic containers with heavy foam (泡沫)—producing pumps on top and loaded with nice smell, these liquid soaps are seen everywhere. Besides their plastic packaging, they are ' antibacterial, ' as are so many other soaps, body scrubs(磨砂膏),and lip sticks these days, not to mention household cleaners and even mattresses. The world has gone crazy for antibacterial products-but, unfortunately, antibacterial is bad.
Keep in mind that antibacterial soap is no more effective at killing germs than regular soap. Using antibacterial soap may even lead to the development of bacteria that are resistant to the products antimicrobial agents-making it harder to kill these germs in the future.
The problem is that they leave a surface leftover after being washed or wiped away. This leftover is supposed to continue killing afterwards, but it can also promote the growth of resistant bacteria, which are stronger than the original bacteria. Triclosan (三氯生),a common mixed material in antibacterial soaps and hand washing liquids, is a probable human carcinogen (致癌物).Triclosan, also known as Microban, has been found in breast milk and exists in 60 percent of American waterways, which opens a pathway for potential pollution of food. In 2009, the Canadian Medical Association called on its government to ban all antibacterial products but was unsuccessful.
As unexciting as it is, plain old bar soap is the way to go. Regular soap works by loosening dirt, oil, and microbes so they can be washed away. Effective hand washing requires vigorous washing of all surfaces and should last at least 20 seconds. A bar of soap requires little to no packaging, and the greenest option is one with a vegetable glycerine base, free from chemical smell and harmful materials.
【1】What does using antibacterial soap result in?
A.Making things cleaner. B.Killing more germs.
C.Keeping things more healthy. D.Promoting the development of bacteria.
【2】What' s the author ' s attitude towards the antibacterial soaps?
A.supportive B.anxious C.opposed D.uninterested
【3】What does the underlined "they"in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Original bacteria. B.Antibacterial soaps.
C.Household cleaners. D.Antimicrobial agents.
【4】What does the author suggest in the last paragraph?
A.Using regular soaps is the best option.
B.Washing hands needs longer time than ever.
C.Buying soaps with no packing and chemicals.
D.Keeping antibacterial soap is beneficial to health.
22、An employee whose personality traits closely match the traits that are ideal for his or her job is likely to earn more than an employee whose traits are less congruent (一致的), according to new research.
Findings from previous research have shown that some personality traits are generally beneficial when it comes to a work environment. Being highly conscientious (勤勉认真的), lead researcher Jaap J.A. Denissen notes, is connected with being hard-working and well-organized, qualities that are typically prized in employees. But Denissen questioned the idea that there is an ideal personality type. The researchers thought that the match, or mismatch, between a person's traits and job requirements, might be important when it comes to important outcomes like income.
The researchers developed a new way of directly comparing the fit between a given employee and a given job, using the well-established Big Five personality traits to quantify (量化) the traits that a job requires. The researchers examined personality, yearly income, and jobs of 8,458 persons living in Germany.
The results showed that fit really does matter, at least when it comes to extraversion, agreeableness, and openness to experiences. For these three traits, greater congruence between an employee's own personality and a job's requirements was connected with higher income. Importantly, the data also showed that employees who were more agreeable, more conscientious, or more open to experiences than their jobs required actually earned less than people who had congruent levels of those traits.
The researchers note that additional studies will be required to understand how job experiences, job satisfaction, and job performance might influence the association between the individual job personality fit and income. The results of the present study do suggest that achieving the right fit requires a special approach to knowing both personal traits and job-related traits. Paying attention to the approach could have important implications for both employees and employers.
【1】What does the previous research show?
A.Conscientious people earn much.
B.Certain personality traits are advantageous in jobs.
C.Job requirements are decisive in choosing an employee.
D.People's income can be predicted simply by the work environment.
【2】What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.How the new research was done.
B.A study on Big Five personality traits.
C.Denissen's opinions on previous research.
D.Why certain personalities are needed for a job.
【3】What is the result of the new research?
A.Employees with a strong personality earn more than others.
B.Having too little of a given trait will cause less job satisfaction.
C.A perfect individual job personality fit contributes to higher income.
D.Conscientious employees earn more than those who are open to experiences.
【4】What do researchers say about their new research?
A.It still needs further studies.
B.It has been applied to job interviews.
C.It will help people find the right job easily.
D.It has proved the previous study totally wrong.
23、Two good friends, Sam and Jason, met with a car accident on their way home one night. The next morning, Sam woke up blind. His legs were broken. 24、Road Rage
We all know driving can be stressful. 【1】 Manoeuvres like that can make us consumed with anger. So what is road rage, and what things can cause it?
Road rage, simply put, is a sudden burst of anger that motorists experience when they feel angered by something another driver, cyclist or pedestrian has done. Road rage can show itself in several ways. 【2】The drivers themselves may feel anxiety and stress, which can cause them to speed or change directions across the road.
【3】 Being tailgated, undertaken on a busy motorway, seeing someone moving across several lanes, chatting on their phone, or hogging the middle lane in front of us are just some of the things that may stress us. And what about parking? Someone stealing the space we wanted at the last second could make us more annoyed and madder! 【4】
So what can we do to keep relaxed? Try driving in a good mood, and if you see a traffic jam, just remember that they can’t be avoided. 【5】 Also, if you see someone who is really angry, try not to maintain eye contact, and don’t get out of the car to confront them. And if you feel stressed and anxious, try pulling over somewhere and resting while you calm down.
A.Just remember road rage can happen to anyone.
B.Being aware of what can generate these feelings of rage may be key to controlling it.
C.They include verbal or physical threats, insults, and even dangerous driving.
D.One minute you’re minding your own business and the next someone cuts you up.
