二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Online learning is a term used to describe distance courses that are offered over the Internet. The courses cover a wide range of subjects and audiences. This educational method is growing in popularity as an economical method of providing access to education for a large population.

There are two types of online course access: open and restricted. Open access allows actually anyone with an Internet user to view the course material. This type of online learning does not require interaction with an instructor. The material covered can range from very specific instructions to university level courses. This initiative removes the barriers to advanced knowledge and allows anyone with the interest to learn. The other type of online courses are restricted access courses. Restricted access is used to limit the class to registered students. These courses offer instructor interaction and are typically the method used by courses that require grades upon graduation.

It is more efficient for both the educator and the student to access course materials online. From the educator aspect, the course lectures can be recorded once and reused. This greatly reduced the staff time and costs. Meanwhile, online courses allow students to complete coursework from a wide range of locations and remove the time restriction to access course lectures. Students are no longer required to travel to the class and many course materials are included in the fee. The material for online courses has been carefully reviewed and approved before the course is offered. Many introduction and courses do not change, as the material is fixed. As a result, the courses are stable and can be reused as needed.

Technology continues to expand to meet the needs of online students. These tools include mobile audio and video viewers, improved online interactive tests, and tool and course management software. The continued development in this area will further enhance the quality of online courses and encourage more people to further their education.

【1】Why is online learning winning more recognition?

    A.It is cost-effective.

    B.It is free to access.

    C.No teacher is required.

    D.Education is getting more important.

【2】What do we learn about restricted access?

    A.Learners are required to register.

    B.Learners can learn without evaluation.

C.It is intended for advanced learners only.

D.It has no interaction with an instructor.

【3】What is paragraph 3 mainly about online courses?

    A.The participants.

    B.The time restrictions.

    C.The advantages.

    D.The ever-changing materials.

【4】How does the author feel about the future of online learning?

    B.Critical.

    C.Worrying.

    D.Promising.

  • 22、   People used to say that British food was boring and bland (乏味的). Nowadays people in Britain have a world of food to choose from.

Travel around London and you'll find food from around the globe. You might come across restaurants and cafes serving foreign food from Armenia, Bangladesh, China, France, etc. Take a look on the Internet and you'll find even more, from Africa, South and Central America and the Pacific. Some restaurants mix different cuisines (烹饪) to create fusion (融合) food. It is similar across the rest of the UK, and growing.

It hasn't always been the case. Once upon a time, other Western Europeans described British food as boring and bland, too heavy and full of fat, with tasteless soups and puddings only the British could love. Sixty years ago, there were only four Indian restaurants in the UK. Now there are over 9,500. There were Italian restaurants in Britain in the nineteenth century but no real Chinese restaurant until the 1930s. The first Indian restaurant opened three hundred years ago.

So why did the British grow bored with their food? Firstly soldiers, administrators and planters who had worked overseas encouraged others to try out new food. In the 1970s, the British began to take holidays abroad and discovered new tastes. And at the same time, people from around the world settled in the UK to live and work, bringing food from home which attracted the British.

Traditionally, Britain's national dish has always been fish and chips, but it is more exotic (异国风味) than that. Many people, including former Foreign Secretary Robin Cook, now consider chicken tikka masala the national dish. It contains chicken in creamy sauce, Indian style. It has come to symbolize (象征) multicultural Britain and could be considered as an example of "fusion" food.

【1】What is the main idea of Paragraph 2?

A.London is a multicultural global city.

B.It is easy for Londoners to travel to different countries.

C.Many restaurants in London belong to different countries.

D.People in Britain have different kinds of food to choose from.

【2】Which of the following statement is true?

A.Indian cooking has a long history in the UK.

B.Western Europeans used to enjoy British food.

C.Four Indian restaurants opened in the UK three hundred years ago.

D.Real Chinese restaurant opened in the UK in the nineteenth century.

【3】Which is the reason why British People grew bored with their food?

A.British people working abroad encouraged others to try out new food.

B.Travel offered British people opportunities to change their diet.

C.Non-British people working in the UK brought food from their countries.

    D.Above all.

【4】Why did Robin Cook consider chicken tikka masala the national dish?

A.Because it was invented by an Indian chef.

B.Because it is a traditional British dish and more exotic.

C.Because it is a kind of fusion food and the sign of a multicultural Britain.

D.Because British doesn't have as many dishes to show off as other countries.

  • 23、In 2007, Bianca Valenti had an experience which nearly killed her. When she paddled out at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, she met a wave the length of a garage and as tall as a two-story house.

"The second I went under water, I was just getting knocked and spun every which way. And then my feet touched the sand bottom there. I swam to the surface. At this point my lungs were burning painfully. I just thought to myself, ‘If there's one more wave after this, I'm going to die.’ Luckily there wasn't another wave." That was when Valenti knew she had the drive and skill to surf big waves.

By 2014, Valenti surfed and won her first big waves contest at Nelscott Ref in Oregon. There, she met fellow professionals Paige Alms, Andrea Moller, and Keala Kennelly. "Two things got me fired up at that point," she said. "I wanted to have the opportunity to win more events, but there weren't more events for women. Also I noticed that just the sight of women surfing big waves was opening people's minds…That's really annoying. "Luckily, Valenti, Alms, Moller, and Kennelly became a dynamic foursome and decided to stick together, support each other, and then fight together.

The four surfers formed Committee for Equity in Women's Surfing(CEWS)to fight for entrance at Mavericks—a contest set in the surfing location of the same name, north of Half Moon Bay. Mavericks was invitation-only and was open to only men when CEWS was formed Now, through the organization's hard work with the State of California, women are awarded 12 spots to surf.

When Valenti was young, there weren't many women represented in surfing culture. "I think it's important for young kids to have all kinds of role models. That way they know all the people who they see as superheroes are just normal people who have crazy dreams. And sometimes the dreams aren't even that crazy. If you work hard and you stick together with your friends, you can do anything. You can move mountains."

【1】What inspired Valenti to surf big waves?

A.Her gift in learning surfing skills.

    B.Her near-death experience in 2007.

C.Her courage to challenge men surfers.

D.Her ambition to be the best role model

【2】Which can best replace "fired up" in Paragraph 3?

    A.Angry.

    B.Excited.

    C.Delighted

    D.Anxious.

【3】What do we know about Mavericks when CEWS was formed?

    A.Only 12 women attended it

B.Men surfers could attend it freely.

C.It opened 12 spots for women surfers.

D.Surfers could only attend it by invitation

【4】Which of the following best describes Valenti?

    A.Ambitious and courageous.

    B.Emotional and crazy.

    C.Tough and responsible.

    D.Experienced and helpful.

  • 24、It’s at this time of the year that marathon recovery, not marathon training, starts to take center stage.

Research indicates that the muscle damage from running a marathon can last up to two weeks. The research also indicates that muscle soreness(肌肉酸痛)is not a good indicator of muscular healing. In other words, just because you aren’t sore anymore doesn’t mean that you are fully healed. This is the danger for marathon runners: post-marathon muscular soreness fades after a few days but minor damage within the muscle cells remains. If you return to full training too soon — running more and faster than the tissues are ready for — you risk delaying full recovery and the chance to get ready for your next goal.

The solution, it appears, is to recognize (and accept) that the muscles will take a while to heal and to be prepared to take it easy for the first couple of weeks (even longer if you’re particularly sore after your marathon). While the research isn’t very promising when it comes to things to do to reduce soreness and aid healing, a couple of concepts(观念)appear to help. First, providing gentle blood flow to the area helps bring healing nutrients into the muscles and also helps to remove waste products and damaged tissue. Walking and gentle massage(按摩)can help, particularly in the first few days after a marathon. Once muscle soreness has significantly reduced (usually two to four days after the race), light jogging can commence(开始). Just be mindful to run very slowly.

No runner wants to get super fit and then lose that during the recovery process. But since you must reduce your training load following your marathon, it can be difficult as to how much and how soon to insert running into your post-marathon training.

【1】When should marathon runners return to full training?

A.About half a month after the competition.

B.A few days after soreness disappears.

    C.Before the tissues recover completely.

D.Before the next game draws closer.

【2】How can marathon runners reduce their muscle soreness?

    A.Through family care.

    B.By doing gentle exercise.

    C.Through medical treatment.

    D.By removing damaged tissue.

【3】What can be a suitable title for the text?

    A.Recovery after Marathon.

    B.Soreness with Sports.

    C.Healing Muscle Soreness.

    D.Reducing Training Load.

【4】What does this passage probably tell us?

    A.Practice makes perfect.

    B.Seeing is believing.

    C.Never too late to learn.

    D.Haste makes waste.
