22、Chokwe Selassie, aged 13, is working hard to help drivers avoid potholes(坑洼). The eighth-grader was inspired to kick off his creation on a recent morning, when his mother was driving him to school. Their car was damaged as it went over a huge pothole in the middle of the street in their hometown of Jackson, Mississippi. He decided to do something about the pothole problem in his city. His solution: an app that warns drivers when there is a pothole ahead.
Chokwe developed the app with his friends Rodriguez Ratliff and Emmanuel Brooks. When the app detects a pothole, it is highlighted in red. And if you get close to the pothole, your phone will warn you. Drivers can also use the app to report any potholes they meet, and to look for other routes they can take to avoid roads that have them.
The app relies on current available information about the streets of Jackson. It works by using the city’s 311 call system, and uses information already stored in a database. Through the call system, citizens dial 311 to report non-emergency problems, which include potholes. Chokwe and his friends determined that focusing on the 10 busiest streets in Jackson would give them a large enough sample size to test the prototype(原型).
Although the app isn't yet available for sale, Chokwe is already looking for ways to improve it. The prototype remains limited to 10 streets in Jackson, but he hopes to add more, so that it includes every street in the city. And then he wants to go even farther until it's nationwide.

C. By settling non-emergency problems.
D. By using its information about potholes.
【4】Which can be Chokwe’s future target?
A. Encouraging more kids to create apps.
B. Taking part in more learning programs.
C. Making the app available for sale online.
D. Making the app include streets nationwide.
23、 Since 2007, the American Psychological Association (APA) has conducted a survey of different aspects of stress in America. This year's analysis focused on teens, and on a 10 point scale, adolescents ranked their stress at 5.8, compared with a score of 5.1 reported by adults.
“What is even more disturbing,” says Norman Anderson, CEO and executive vice president of the APA, “is the fact that most teens knew their stress levels weren't healthy—they said 3.9 was probably more desirable—but did little about it.” In fact, the survey revealed that 42% of teens aren't doing enough to manage their stress.
The researchers were concerned about it, since unaddressed stress can lead to both short-term mental-health issues such as depression, as well as lay the seeds for long-lasting conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure in adulthood.
What’s causing teens to feel so anxious? Eighty three percent cited school as a source of stress, including concerns about their future after high school and worries about college. For some, family financial issues also caused anxiety, which wasn’t surprising since previous studies found that parental stress can pass down onto children, even at very young ages.
“This branch of population is not taken seriously sometimes,” said Katherine Nordal, of the APA, “we wanted to shine light on some of the problems we know teens are having and whether they are successful at coping with them or not.”
“Clearly,” said Anderson, “we have work to do to manage stress overall. Stress levels among Americans continue to be high, but coping mechanisms(机制) remain ineffective,” Teens reported doing everything that they probably shouldn't in order to relieve stress—they aren't getting enough sleep, which can add to anxious feelings, and they're less physically active. Exercise is among the best ways to reduce stress, but the survey found that teens were beginning to rely on sitting activities, such as surfing the internet, engaging in social media or watching videos, to relieve stress.
【1】From paragraph one, we can learn that___________.
A.no survey has been carried out among teens before
B.different aspects of stress mainly existed in adults
C.10 percent of the teens are involved in the survey
D.compared with the adults, teens are suffering more stress in different aspects
【2】How did the teens cope with their stress?
A.The government took some measures to reduce teens' stress.
B.Most teens took it for granted and did nothing about it.
C.42% of teens thought it natural to some stress.
D.Most teens were worrying about their stress levels.
【3】The underlined word “depression” in paragraph 3 is closet in meaning to “___________”.

24、 Kielder Forest in Northumberland, England, is home to birds of prey (捕食) and red squirrels. Around 90 years ago, it was also home to the pine marten (松貂). The 0.5 meters animal was driven to extinction in England by 1926 because gamekeepers wanted to secure the safety of their game birds, according to The Guardian.
The martens grew well in Scotland, however, and the animals appear to be crossing back into England.A pine marten was spotted in Kielder Forest by John Hartshorne, a volunteer who monitors the red squirrel population in the forest, part of an effort to stop grey squirrels from further invading the red squirrels’ territory. “I heard loads of cries of red squirrels, wondering what it was. I zoomed in (拉近镜头) and saw a pine marten, which is superb, ” he told The Guardian. “We know that there are pine martens around in Northumberland from anecdote, but we’ve been waiting for a clear picture of evidence that they are here.”
The pine marten is one of the animals receiving a helping hand from Back from the Brink, one of the conservation groups working together to help save 20 species from extinction in England. Their efforts are aimed at helping the pine marten and other at-risk species.
Red squirrels are threatened by grey squirrels, which outcompete the native squirrels for food and pass on a deadly virus. Martens keep grey squirrel numbers in check, especially since the invasive animals aren’t used to having a predator like the pine marten around. A 2018 study found that the presence of pine martens can be enough to push the grey squirrel population out of an area.
So the pine marten returning to Kielder Forest is a win-win: The pine marten returns to part of its historic range and in doing so, helps red squirrels continue to survive.
【1】What led to the extinction of the pine marten indirectly in 1926?
A.A deadly virus. B.Game birds.
C.Loss of habitat. D.Red squirrels.
【2】What is John Hartshorne’s duty according to Paragraph 2?
A.To watch red squirrels closely.
B.To find and track pine martens.
C.To stop grey squirrels from dying out.
D.To monitor the population of squirrels.
【3】What does “the invasive animals” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Pine martens. B.Grey squirrels.
C.Birds of prey. D.Native squirrels.
【4】What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The future of the pine marten.
B.The function of Kielder Forest.
C.The significance of the pine marten returning.
D.The return of the pine marten to Kielder Forest.
