21、 Beijing Opera used to sound strange to Dou Yi. The 14-year-old Beijinger said whenever she came across Beijing Opera on TV, she changed the channel (频道). Like most of today’s teenagers, Dou loves pop music.
But since Dou entered the Xuanwu Branch School of Beijing No. 15 Middle School, she has been studying Beijing Opera in music class every week.
Dou and her classmates listen to Beijing Opera and learn the basics (基础知识) from professional actors. They also sing along with the operas.
“We laugh sometimes because the tunes (声调) are really hard to learn,” said Dou. But she said that now she would watch Beijing Opera on TV.
“After all, I am no longer a layman,” she said.
Since 2008, schools around the country have been teaching students Beijing Opera. It’s part of a plan to introduce young people to the country’s artistic traditions. Clearly, Dou’s school has been taking the job seriously.

Yang said she had learned a lot from Beijing Opera.
“I learned a lot of history from the operas,” she said. “I’ve also found out about many ancient poems, since there are so many of them in the operas.”
Yang doesn’t think everyone can learn to sing Beijing Opera well, but she does say that it’s helpful for all people to learn about it.
“The more you learn about it, the more you understand it. If people do study it, this old art form won’t disappear. It would be a great pity if it did!” she said.

22、When I was in the eighth grade, my teacher asked us to write an article about what we would like to do when we grew up. All I could think of was one sentence I want to help other people! Over the years, I met many difficulties and failures (失败). But I never thought of giving up. I realized that to help other people I have to help myself first. I encouraged (鼓励) myself after I experienced (经历) failures, and I was happy for myself when I did well.
Finally, my dream really came true. I found a part-time job in a charity (慈善机构). I began to spend my days doing things for people in need. I have a happy life. That doesn’t mean that this kind of life is easy, or that my work is always enjoyable. I’m happy because I am doing what I want to do.
What do you want to do? Write it down now. If you don’t know, you can ask yourself, “What would I do if this was the last day of my life?” Then write down the first thing that comes to your mind, no matter how silly (愚蠢) or how impossible it is. 23、 "Let's go wrestling, Dad!" 《摔跤吧, 爸爸!》was one of the Top 10 movies in 2017. It tells a true story about an Indian man and his two daughters. His name's Mahayir. In real life, he is called "the father of Indian women wrestling" because thousands of girls across India have been supported to take up wrestling with his efforts.
A very famous Indian actor—Aamir Khan (阿米尔汗), played the role of Mahavir in the movie. It was an unusual experience for him. Aamir Khan was very serious about his character and he tried to make this character close to the true story. In order to act well, he needed to put on weight to be very fat and then did sports to be very strong in a short time.
Aanir Khan started to eat a lot every day before making the movie. He ate at least 5 meals a day including much junk food. He became too fat to run quickly.
It is simple to be fat but difficult to be strong. Aamir Khan invited many coaches to train him to lose weight and it took him a few months to be strong. He must eat less food and drink more water. Strength training is also important. This kind of physical training is very boring. He had to lift different weights and did over and over again. Aamir Khan set a goal to himself day by day and the minute he made it, he fell down on the ground and could hardly stand up. In the end, he became the exact person the movie needed.

25、Nook’s arrival, Good or Bad?
Booklovers, most of them, will tell you what a pleasure it is to lend a favorite read to a friend—the novel you stayed up all night to get to the end of; the travel book that made you feel as if you yourself were on a train ride through India. For a while it seemed that e-book users were to be denied this pleasure of lending to friends. You could b【1】 a book or magazine for your reading device, but you couldn’t lend it out.
But now, with the Nook, the US book chain Barnes and Noble’s response to Amazon’s Kindle, electronic readers will be able to have their l【2】 literary enthusiasm pressed on their friends, just like readers of physical books can. You simply email the book from your Nook and your friend can read it for two weeks, using any device with the Barnes and Noble e-book reader software. It’s a big i【3】 from previous e-book readers.
The Nook offers other features too. You read in black and white on the main screen, just like with Kindle. The difference is that on the lower part of the device there’s a c【4】 touch screen, which allows you to browse through a book or magazine, but goes black when you’re not using it so that you s【5】 power.
Another exciting thing about the Nook is that it offers Wi-Fi, arguably a big advance on previous e-book readers. Customers in the United States can use the Internet connection to read whole e-books at Barnes and Noble’s hundreds of bookstores for free. None of Barnes and Noble’s c【6】 can come close to this.
But the Nook, ironically, has t【7】 out to be a money-loser for Barnes and Noble, or at least a job-loser for Barnes and Noble’s employees. According to Marian Maneker at The Big Money Website, if the Nook is successful it might take sales from the company’s bookstores, eventually forcing their closure and the loss of thousands of jobs.
