六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、One afternoon many years ago, I sat down on a bench in a park and watched a little boy, around 2 years old, running freely on the grass as his mother watched from a short distance. The boy would fall to the grass, get up, and without looking back at his mother, run as fast as he could as if nothing had happened.

When kids fall down, they don’t think of the fall as a failure. Instead, they consider it as a learning experience. They try and try again until they succeed.

While I was touched(感动的) by the boy’s strong mind, I was also touched by the way he ran. With each attempt, he looked so confident and natural. He only wanted to run freely and to do it as well as he could. He was just being a child – just being himself – being completely in the moment. He never gave up. Each time he fell, he got himself back up again, as if he knew that falling down was simply a part of life.

He was not looking for others’ smiles, or worrying about whether someone was watching or not. He only wanted to run and to feel the experience of running fully and freely. I learned a lot from that experience, and have successfully brought that lesson with me in many parts in my life.

1From Paragraph 1, we know that the boy’s mother ______.

    A. was strict with him B. had a special way to educate her son

    C. didn’t love her son as much as others D. was too weak to help her son get up

2The underlined word “attempt” in Paragraph 3 may mean “______”.

    A. try B. help C. support D. mistake

3The writer was touched by the boy because the boy ______.

    A. might stop running when he fell down

    B. never fell down if he made up his mind to run

    C. didn’t care about the fall and went on running

    D. was good at running and never fell down

4What can we learn from the story?

    A. Falling down will make a person feel frightened from then on.

    B. Falling down is the mother of success.

    C. When others are watching, people fall down easily.

    D. One will succeed if he / she is confident and never gives up.

七、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 25、阅读下面短文,按照句子结构的语法性和上下文连贯的要求,在空格处填入一个适当的词或使用括号中词语的正确形式填空(每空不多于3个单词)

Students these days often have a lot of 1(worry). Sometimes they have problems with their schoolwork, and sometimes with their friends. 2 can they do with themSome people think the worst thing is to do nothing. Laura Mills, a teenager from Washington, agrees. “In life, there are always problems and worries” says Laura. “But I think 3(communicate) with someone helps a lot. If we don't talk to anyone, I'm sure we'll feel worse.” Sally once lost her wallet, and worried for days. She was afraid to tell her parents 4 it. She even walked several miles to school each day 5 she didn't have any money. She just kept thinking, “If I tell my parents, they'll be angry” But at last she talked to her parents and they were 6(real) understanding. Her dad said he himself sometimes made mistakes, too. They bought her a new wallet and asked her 7(be) more careful. Robert Hunt advises students about common problems. He feels the same way 8 Sally. “We should always try to do something with 9(problem)” He thinks that you can first find someone to talk to. This person doesn't need to be an expert like him. Students often forget that their parents are always there to help them. In English, we say that talking about a problem with parents or friends is like 10(cut) it in half. So next time you meet a problem, do like that. I hope you can get on well with everyone and everything.
