    Christmas Is for Love

Christmas is for joy, for giving and 1 , for reuniting with family and friends. But mostly, Christmas is for love. I didn't know this until I received a wonderful gift one Christmas.

Mark was an 11-year-old orphan(孤儿)who lived with his aunt. I hadn't noticed Mark until he began staying after class each day to help me clean our classroom. We didn't talk much, but 2 the quiet hours of the day. When we did talk, Mark spoke mostly of his mother. Though he was quite little when she died, he remembered her as a kind, gentle, loving woman who always spent a lot of time with him.

As Christmas drew near, Mark stopped staying after school. I had always looked forward to 3 him. One afternoon, as he was leaving our classroom, I stopped him and asked why he hadn't been staying around to help me clean. I told him how I had missed him and explained how he had been my best helper. "I was making you a surprise," he whispered 4. "It's for Christmas." After saying that, he became embarrassed and rushed out of the room. He didn't stay after school anymore after that.

Finally, the last school day before Christmas came. Mark gave me a tiny box. I opened the wooden box and found nothing in it. I held the empty box and asked gently, "What is this, Mark?"

"It's love," he whispered softly, "and mother always said it's the 5 when you give it away." And he turned and quietly left the room.

六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   It's good to share your feelings with others. No matter whether your feelings are good or not, it can also help you to get closer to people who you care about and who care about you.

But how to share your feelings? First, you should focus (聚焦于) on your feelings. You can't tell your friends what's inside your backpack if you don't know what's in it yourself. Feelings are the same way. Before you share them with someone, you should know what feelings you have. You can make a list of feelings in your head or by writing it out on a piece of paper or even by drawing pictures. What bothers (烦扰) you? Does it make you sad or angry? Do you feel this emotion (情感) only once or many times? When you do this, it might help you to remember something that happened and think about how it makes you feel. Then you can say “I feel sad when my friend won't play with me.” or “I feel angry with my classmates...”

Do you know why you should talk about your feelings? If you always keep your feelings inside, especially sadness, nervousness or anxiety (焦虑), it can even make you feel sick. But if you talk with someone who cares about you, like your mom and dad, you'll feel much better. Your parents want to know what's happening in your life because they love you. But if you don't want to talk with them, please talk with your friends. They will help you.

    根据短文内容,判断正(T)误(F)。

【1】Don't share your feelings with others.

【2】Before you share your feelings with others, you should focus on your feelings.

【3】You can draw pictures about your feelings.

【4】If you always keep your feelings inside, you may feel sick.

【5】You can only share your feelings with your parents.

  • 24、   Sophie, a 14-year-old British girl, suddenly changed a lot in class. She lost her interest in study and often sat at her desk with her head down.

Ethan Miller, one of Sophie’s teachers, found the reason: she was bullied ( 欺凌) online. Sophie received impolite messages on her phone and on Facebook. Miller shared Sophie’s story on the website of The Children’s Society, a children’s group in the United Kingdom.

Sophie was not alone. Not long ago, Korean top star, Chui Se-ri killed herself after years of being bullied online. According to a report in September, one in three young people, in 30 countries, said they were ever bullied online. Twenty percent of those bullied students chose not to go to school because of it. The study surveyed (调查) more than 170,000 young people aged 13-24 from countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. Most of them said social media, like Facebook and Twitter, are the most common places for online bullying.

At the same time, online bullying could have serious results for young people. If they are bullied  online, they may not want to ask the people around them for help. Instead, they just keep the bad feelings to themselves. That may be the reason why they choose to hurt themselves or even kill themselves.

To work out the problem, national help and public support are badly needed. The government ( ) and schools should pay enough attention ( ) to this problem. At the same time, training for teachers and parents to stop online bullying is also necessary.

Meanwhile (与此同时), here is some advice to keep yourself safe on the Internet. First, make sure that you show enough respect (尊重) to others, although you don’t have similar ideas, values or beliefs. Second, if you experience online bullying, the best response (反应) to a bully is no response at all. Last but not least, keep a record of anything if it shows proof (证据) of online bullying, like screenshot ( ). You can use this to report and stop them.

1The writer led in (引入) the topic of the article

A.by listing some numbers B.by telling Sophie’s story

C.by sharing his ideas D.by reporting the latest news

2What can we infer (推断) from the passage?

A.Facebook and Twitter are the most common places for online bullying.

B.Online bullying is troubling a large number of young people these days.

C.The government has already made some rules to stop online bullying.

D.If the public (公众) don’t pay enough attention, this problem may become worse.

3If someone sends impolite messages to you online, which of the following is the best?

    a. call the police   b. make a response   c. keep a record   d. send impolite messages back

    A.a,b B.b,c C.c,d D.a,c

4If we put the passage into three parts, which of the following is the best?

    ①=Para.1 ② Para. 2 ③ Para. 3 ④ Para. 4   ⑤ Para. 5   ⑥ Para. 6

    A.②③④⑤⑥

    B.②③④⑤

    C.①②③④⑤⑥

    D.①②③④⑤
