六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   I walked into a restaurant and ordered some food. After about 20 minutes, a large group of people came in and took their own orders.

I felt disappointed ( 失望) because the group got served before me. I watched as they began to eat and laugh loudly. I heard one of them bragging (吹嘘) about how he knew someone who works at the restaurant. Unable to stand it anymore, I decided to leave. I asked the waiter to cancel (取消) my order angrily.

He told me nicely, “Yours is a special order. The head chef is preparing it himself. It’ll take a little more time. Please have a drink while you wait.”

I calmed down and waited patiently (耐心地). A few minutes later, my meal was served by six waiters.

To my surprise, the owner of the restaurant was a long-lost friend of mine. He saw me walking in and decided to surprise me. He turned my simple meal into a five-star meal for free. The people at the other table were shocked and couldn’t stop looking at me. They asked angrily why they didn’t get that kind of service.

Such is life! Some people go ahead of you, laughing at you and talking about how they are smarter, better and luckier than you, while you are working hard day and night, wondering why it’s taking so long for you to get reward (奖励) like them.

You just have to wait longer because your reward is more special.

1Why did the writer feel disappointed at first?

A.Because the group got served before him. B.Because the group had special service.

C.Because the waiter canceled his order. D.Because the meal tasted really terrible.

2The underlined word “He” in paragraph 5 refers to________.

A.The head chef B.The waiter of the restaurant

C.One guest of the group D.The owner of the restaurant

3How did the writer feel through the whole story?

    A.shocked, unhappy B.bored, glad C.angry, surprised D.lucky, excited

4Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?

A.Meet my long-lost friend again B.Wait patiently for a rewarding life

C.Have an unhappy experience D.Laugh at other unlucky guests

  • 22、More than 1 billion people around the world are homeless. Now two companies make a plan to help out. They use 3-D printers (打印机) to make new houses.

A printer usually prints things on paper. But the 3-D printer works differently. Before building a house, the 3-D printer reads the picture of a house from a computer program first. Then it makes the materials (材料) soft to make certain shapes. Finally, the printer prints the house out, one layer (一层) at a time.

The 3-D printer is easy to use. Only a few workers are needed when it works. Also, the printer works quickly. It can build a house in one day.

The first 3-D-printed house was built in Texas, US. The house has a bedroom, a bathroom and a living room with large windows. By early 2019, the two companies plan to build a village of more than 100 3-D-printed houses.

Not everyone likes the idea, though. Lawrence Sass, a building expert, said, “The houses may be unsafe. When the wind blows strongly, those houses may come apart easily.”

【1】Which is the right order of how the 3-D printer works?

① It prints the house out in layers.

② It reads a picture of a house from a computer program.

③ It makes the material soft to make certain shapes.

    A.②①③

    B.①③②

    C.③②①

    D.②③①

【2】What can we learn about the 3-D printer?

A.It needs a week to print a house.

B.It only works well on hot days.

C.It needs many people to run.

    D.It is easy to use.

【3】Where was the first 3-D-printed house built?

    A.In the USA.

    B.In the UK.

    C.In France.

    D.In Australia.

【4】You may read the above passage in a ________.

    A.guide book

    B.history textbook

    C.science magazine

    D.science fiction story

  • 23、“BANG!” the door caused a reverberation (回声). It was just standing there, with Father standing on one side, and I on the other side.

We were both in great anger. “Never set foot in this house again!” stormed Father. With tears welling up in my eyes, I rushed out of the flat and ran along the street.

The street lights were shining, causing rather sad-feeling. I wandered aimlessly.

A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me. I felt as if I saw my childhood from another space: happy and carefree.

But now... I don't know whether it is because I have grown up or because Dad is getting old. We differ in our ways of thinking. He always puts his opinions and codes of behaviour on me. Whenever I do something wrong, he never admits it. We are just like two people coming from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened.

I wandered in the streets, without a destination in mind. My heart was frozen on this hot summer night. As I walked on there were fewer and fewer people on the streets, until I had only the street lights to keep me company. When I finally reached the high-rise apartment block in which I lived, I saw that the light was still on.

I thought to myself: "Is Father waiting for me, or is he still angry with me?"

In fact, it was nothing. Perhaps, Dad was throwing away some of his old stamps. Perhaps he thought they were useless. I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. I can't stand his outrageous (蛮横的) words: "I can't throw you away, let alone these old papers?"

All the lights were off except Father's.

Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn't know how to express himself. After shouting at me, he never showed any mercy or any moments of regret. After an argument he has the habit of creeping up (悄悄来到) in my sleep and then tucking me underneath the covers.

This was how he always was. He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature.

The light was still on. "Am I wrong?" I whispered, maybe... With the key in hand, I was as nervous as I had ever been. At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened the door tears ran down my cheeks. I suddenly realized that the iron door that I had imagined between us did not exist (存在) at all. Love---is second to none.

1Decide which is the best order of the following according to what happened in the passage.

    a. I opened the door and entered the house.

    b. Sadly I ran out into the street.

    c. I reached the place where I lived and saw my house still brightly lit.

    d. I thought of my father's kindness towards me.

    e. I walked about in the street without any aim.

    A.b-e-d-c-a B.b-e-c-d-a C.b-e-a-c-d D.b-e-c-a-d

2What made the writer think of his childhood?

A.The sight of the street lights.

B.The sight of the empty street.

C.The sight of a father with a child in his arms.

D.The sight of light in his own house.

3Why do you think the father often shouts at his son?

A.Perhaps the father is getting older and older.

B.Perhaps the son has already grown up.

C.Perhaps they never agree with each other.

D.Perhaps the father has got used to doing that.

4What conclusion can you come to after reading the passage?

A.The father treats his son in an unfair way.

B.The father is actually kind to his son.

C.The father is neither kind nor cruel to his son.

D.The father is always finding fault (过错) with his son.

  • 24、Every time we get on a plane, we’re asked to either turn off our phones or change them to the flight mode—it’s for “safety reasons”.

But according to The Conversation website, having to turn our phones off on a plane is “a service issue, not a safety one”.

When we speak on our phones in the air, they can cause interference to the aircraft’s radios. Pilots can hear this interference in their headphones. “It’s the same noise you’ll be familiar with, if you put your mobile too close to a speaker,” the Mirror noted. “This sound does not affect safety, but is annoying for sure.” Though speaking on a phone during a flight isn’t dangerous, it isn’t still a good idea.

When we make or receive a call on the ground, we connect (连接) to a cell tower that deals with all calls within an 80-kilometer radius (范围). As we move from place to place we are “handed on” to different cell towers.

As US scientist Sven Bilen explains, there shouldn’t be too many “handoffs (信号转移)”; people shouldn’t travel faster than cars and phone users should be close to the ground.

However, during the flight, telephone calls cannot meet any of the conditions above. And even worse, our cellphones would stop working.

But now things are beginning to change. If we still can’t speak during a flight, we can use other phone functions (功能). For example, Airbus A330 of Emirates Airline has in-flight WiFi to make passengers send and receive short messages in the air. In the future, as Bilen points out, it may be possible for air travelers to make and receive calls freely.

【1】When you are on a plane, you should ________.

    A.turn off your phone

B.turn the phone down to silence

C.put your phone in your bag

    D.leave your phone at home

【2】The underlined word “interference” here means “_______” in Chinese.

    A.震动

    B.干扰

    C.记录

【3】When we make or receive a call on the ground, _______.

A.we must walk around all the time

B.the phone must be more expensive

C.we must travel faster than a car

D.there must be a cell tower that deals with the call

【4】Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?

A.It’s not a good idea to make phone calls on an airplane.

B.Telephone calls on airplanes are bad for the airplane radio.

C.Now we can use other phone functions on planes.

D.On a plane, our cellphones work better than on the ground.

【5】The best title for the passage may be “________”.

A.Can we make calls on a plane?

B.How to make calls on a plane

C.What to do with cellphones on planes
