  • 21、   Whenever the sun dropped and the blue sky came up, my father and I used to climb the mountain near my house. Walking together, my father and I used to have a lot of conversations through which I learned lessons from his experiences. He always told me, “You should have goals like climbing the mountain.” Without the mountain-climbing that we both enjoyed, we couldn’t have enough time to spend together because my father was very busy. I really got a lot from the mountain-climbing. It gave me time to talk with my father and to be in deep thought as well as develop my patience.

Once we climbed a very high mountain. It was so challenging for me because I was only ten years old. During the first few hours of climbing, I enjoyed the flowers and trees, and the birds’ singing. But as time passed, I got a pain in both of my legs. I wanted to stop climbing, but my father said to me, “You can always see a beautiful sky at the top of the mountain, but you can’t see it before you reach the top. Only there can you see all of the nice things, which is just like your life.”

At that time, I was too young to understand his words. But later after that, I got to know the meaning of hope in life. I found myself standing at the top of the mountain, and the sky was as clear as crystal(水晶).

1The writer tells us that mountain-climbing was ______ for his father and him.

B.You can find life is full of nice things.

C.You will be beautiful at the top of the mountain.

D.You will get all you need at the top of the mountain.

C.the writer found a crystal at the top of the mountain

D.though the writer was young, he could understand his father

  • 24、With online booksellers and e-readers becoming popular, traditional booksellers seem to be dying out. But is it true? Many bookstores are now trying everything to make more readers enjoy staying there to read or choose books they like. And some of them have done a great job.

Usually, online stores have larger number of books than traditional bookstores. Some traditional ones are clever enough to sell just one kind of book and win the hearts of a specific group of people. Trends Lounge in Beijing is such a place for art lovers. The bookstore has walls of books which are about arts and artists. You may meet famous artists there or maybe even a happy couple that choose to get married in the bookstore.

Some other bookstores are trying to make themselves more than just a place that sells books. They want to be somewhere for people to socialize. The Eslite Bookstore in Taipei has spaces including clothes stores, cafes and tea houses. It also holds lots of activities on reading, such as talks with famous writers. All these make the bookstore a cultural landmark in Taipei. Luckily for book lovers on the Chinese mainland, Eslite opened a store in Suzhou in 2015. Some bookstores even go one step further. They themselves have become symbols of the city culture by showing the local culture of the city where they are. For example, Hong Kong has many second-floor bookstores because street-level stores are paid much more. These bookstores are small, but their books a are carefully chosen by the owners, just like the city of Hong Kong.

It’s true that a great bookstore can make people enjoy reading in many ways. After all, reading online can’t bring you the touch of paper, the smell of print, and the strong feeling that you are going on a wonderful journey with each new book in a bookstore.

Paper books give people a very different reading experience than e-books. Harvard did a research last year that found out reading from an e-book at night makes a big difference to your ability to sleep and among other things. When reading a book, the paper kind, one can memorize and understand better than reading off an e-reader. So come to enjoy the beauty of real books in the bookstore!

【1】What are many traditional bookstores trying to do recently?

A.To make children know more about the traditional culture.

B.To discover more books which are about arts and artists.

C.To take the place of the online booksellers and e-readers.

D.To make more readers read and choose books made of paper.

【2】According to the passage, some traditional bookstores have increased the number of the customers by ______ in their stores.

A.building a wall which is about art

B.inviting famous writers to meet readers

C.selling books written by new couples

D.having a yard sale to sell old books

【3】According to the passage, where can we find The Eslite Bookstore?

    A.Beijing and Shanghai.

    B.Suzhou and Taipei.

    C.Beijing and Taipei.

    D.Taipei and Hong Kong.

【4】Which of the following statements is NOT true about online booksellers and e-readers?

A.Reading from an e-book at night is bad for your ability to sleep.

B.Paper books have better feelings to the touch than e-readers.

C.Nowadays, online booksellers and e-readers are becoming popular.

D.Reading off an e-reader can memorize better than reading paper books.

【5】From the last paragraph, we can learn that ______.

A.paper books are better than e-readers

B.paper books are cheaper than e-readers

C.reading paper books can make others admire you

D.teenagers must enjoy the beauty of a real bookstore
