21、Mission to Mars
On July 4, 1997, space exploration took a huge step. On that day, a spacecraft called Pathfinder landed on Mars. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) sent Pathfinder to discover new information about the Red Planet.
The mission was a complete success. After landing, Pathfinder sent a small rover (漫游机器人), Sojourner, onto the planet's surface. Sojourner explored more than 250 square meters of Mars. Together, designed Sojourner to last for only seven days, but little vehicle ran twelve times longer! Pathfinder surprised scientists, too. It sent back information for almost three months. That was three times longer than it was built to last.
Because Pathfinder and Sojourner ran for so long, scientists got more information than they ever dreamed of getting. For one thing, they discovered that Mars is very sandy. Pictures of sand dunes around the land site hint that Mars once had water. Scientists know that water means life. Was there ever life on Mars? We don't know yet. In addition, the Pathfinder mission told scientists that Mars is dusty. Huge "dust devils" on Mars spit enormous amounts of dust into the Martian air. Pathfinder also discovered frosty Martian temperatures at 200 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. At that temperature, a glass of water would freeze solid in just a few seconds.
In October, scientists lost Pathfinder's signal because the spacecraft's battery had run down. They tried to revive the signal but had no luck. The mission officially ended on November 4.
Scientists hope to use the knowledge from these missions to better understand how life on earth began. They will also use it to plan future Mars missions.

D.Scientists found out that there was once life on Mars.
【3】You can learn from this passage that ________
A.dust devils on Mars made the photographs hard to see.
B.Martian temperatures caused Pathfinder's battery to fail.
C.scientists suspect that life on Earth began on Mars.
D.scientists will look for signs that life existed on Mars.
22、Here is some information about the Yangtze River Dolphin. It makes its home in the Yangtze River. Over 20 million years ago, the Yangtze River Dolphin left the sea, swam up the Yangtze River and has lived there ever since. It has smaller eyes than other kinds of dolphins and the small size helps to protect its eyes. However, because it has such small eyes, it cannot use its eyes to look for food. Instead, this kind of dolphin uses sound waves (声波) to look for food. This makes it so unusual.
In the past, there were thousands of dolphins in the Yangtze River, but today, not many people can see the dolphins. The number has decreased greatly. Scientists say that the number of the dolphins has gone down because the population (人口) along the Yangtze River has gone up. They also say that the new dam (大坝) across the river is also making the dolphins die because they don’t have food to eat. Scientists have tried different ways to save this “panda in the water”, but nothing has helped. What would you do to save this kind of dolphin if you had a chance?
【1】The Yangtze River Dolphin lives ________.
A.in the Yellow River

23、 Mr. Guo is a teacher from Xi’an. He asked his students to hand in their homework through a QR code(二维码). “We spent an hour or two in class learning how to generate(使产生)the codes, and in the end everything gets easier. ”Said Guo. “When students finish the homework, they keep in on WeChat(微信). Then, each student makes his own QR code and gives it to me. So I can check their work everywhere using my computer or telephone.”
The QR codes can be sent to Mr. Guo by email, QQ and WeChat. When Guo scans(扫描)his students’ QR codes, their homework appears on his phone. He finds that their homework becomes more creative(创新的), with many pictures, music and even videos.
Guo’s students like the new way and think it is interesting. “We are living in the information age. Many students like to work with computers, which makes learning more fun. ”said Tingting, “The paper is not easy to keep, but the code is easy to keep and share, ”Guo said. “It is worth trying to use new technology in education. Education itself is a kind of creation. I don’t want my students to fill behind the times.”
However, some parents are worried. They are afraid that their children will spend too much time on computers and less time communicating with teachers. But in fact, it is unnecessary. Students still need to look up information in books and write it down when they do their homework. They only use the code when they hand in their work, which doesn’t take them too much time. Also for teachers, it allows them to check the students’ work at any time. And it’s also an easy way to share homework with other students.

24、 In the United States and Canada, there are over 6,000 museums, almost twice as many as there were 25 years ago. However, they have changed a lot. They are no longer places where one “should” go-they are places to enjoy.
At a science museum in Canada, you can feel your hair stand on end as harmless electricity passes through your body. At the Children’s Museum in New York, you can play an African drum. There are no “Do Not Touch” signs in some other museums in the USA.
More and more museum directors (馆长) have realized that people learn best when they can become part of what they are seeing. In many science museums, the visitors are encouraged to touch, listen, and experiment so as to find scientific rules for themselves.
The old museums have been changing and the government is encouraging the building of new, modern museums. One cause of all these changes is the growing number of young people in the population. They see things in a new and different way. They want art that they can take part in. The same is true of science and history.
【1】There were about ________ museums in America and Canada 25 years ago.
A.3, 000 B.4, 000 C.5, 000 D.6, 000
