六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Have you ever run into a careless cell phone user on the street? Perhaps they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat (微信) without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new “type” of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name — phubbers (低头族).

Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people in their short film. Phubbers with different social identities(身份) lose themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die. A pretty woman takes selfie (自拍) at the scene of a car accident. A father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A series of similar events finally leads to the destruction(毁灭) of the world.

Although the ending sounds overstated(夸大), the harm phubbing can do is real. Your health is the first to face the effect and result of it. “ Bending your head to check your cell phone could be harmful to your neck,” A famous doctor said. “Also, staring at(盯着) cell phones for a long time will damage(损害) your eyesight little by little.”

But that’s not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. Many people pay more attention to their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange situation.

It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.

1Why does the author give the example of a cartoon in Para. 2?

A.To advertise the cartoon made by students.

B.To tell us the world will finally be destroyed by phubbers.

C.To inform people of the bad effects of phubbing.

D.To warn doctors against using cell phones while treating patients.

2Which of the following is NOT a risk(危险)a phubber may have?

A.His social skills could be affected.

B.He will cause the destruction of the world.

C.His neck and eyesight will be gradually harmed.

D.He might get separated from his friends and family.

3What may the passage talk about next?

A.Advice on how to use WeChat. B.People addicted to phubbing.

C.Results of phubbing. D.Ways to reduce the risks of phubbing.

  • 22、   Clothes are traditionally made of natural materials, such as cotton, leather and wool. They are all from plants or animals, but that doesn’t mean they’re friendly to the earth. For example, farmers have to use a lot of chemicals to grow cotton plants.

Scientists are now looking for new ways to make clothing materials. They hope the new materials are both comfortable and good for the earth. Scientists have worked out how to make materials out of corn husks(棉籽), chicken feathers and rice straws.

  • 23、Some people think that they have an answer to the problems of automobile crowding and pollution in large cities. Their answer is the bicycle, or bike.

In a great many cities, hundreds of people ride bicycles to work every day. In New York City, some bike riders have even formed a group called "Bike for a Better City". They claim that if more people rode bicycles to work there would be fewer automobiles in the downtown section of the city and therefore less dirty air from car engines.

For several years this group has been trying to get city government to help bicycle riders. For example, they want the city to paint special lanes—for bicycles only—on some of the main streets, because when bicycle riders must use the same lanes as cars, there may be accidents. "Bike for a Better City" feels that if there were special lanes, more people would use bikes.

But no bicycle lanes have been painted yet. Not everyone thinks it is a good idea. Taxi drivers don't like the idea—they say it will slow traffic. Some store owners on the main streets don't like the idea—they say that if there is less traffic, they will have less business. And most people live too far from downtown to travel by bike.

The city government has not yet decided what to do. It wants to keep everyone happy. On weekends, Central Park—the largest open place in New York—is closed to cars, and the roads may be used by bicycles only. But "Bike for a Better City" says that this is not enough and keeps fighting to get bicycle lanes downtown. Until that happens, the safest place to bicycle may be in the park.
