四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Scientists at the University of Michigan have built a robot called MABEL. MABEL is able to run at a speed of 6.8 mph. This is a world record for a machine with two legs.

It took the researchers three years to get MABEL up and run to her top speed. There are still some problems, but she is thought of a huge step forward for robotkind.

The makers of the robot say that science and technology can help people. Jonathan Hurst is a scientist from Oregon State University. He says scientists have done research into what MABEL can do in the future. They think that walking robots can help people who have something wrong with their legs walk again, or help people do things like a superman.

Professor Jessy Crizzle from the University of Michigan, also points that how useful human-like robots can be. "If you would like to send robots to search for people when a house is on fire, they can go up and down the stairs, step over the baby's toys on the floor and go in places where wheels and tracks can not go."

1MABEL is able to run at a speed of ______.

    A.6.8 mph B.78 mph C.6.8 m/s

  • 25、The weather is getting hotter. You are thirsty playing basketball or riding home from school. A cold drink may be just the thing. But be careful what you are drinking. Something that looks cool may not be good for your health.

There are plenty of "energy drinks" on the market. Most of them have beautiful colors and cool names. The lists on them tell you they are helpful to your health. Sounds great!

But after a careful check you may find that most energy drinks have lots of caffeine(咖啡因) in them. These drinks are especially aimed at young people, students, busy people and sports players. Makers sometimes say their drinks make you better at sports and can keep you awake. But be careful not to drink too much.

Caffeine makes your heart beat fast. Because of this, the International Olympic Committee has limited(限制) its use. Caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as strong as that in a cup of coffee or tea. Possible health dangers have something to do with energy drinks. Just one box of energy drink can make you nervous, have difficulty sleeping and can even cause heart problems. Scientists say that teenagers should be discouraged from taking drinks with a lot of caffeine in them.

  • 26、Artificial intelligence(人工智能), or AI in short, is the science of giving computers and machines ability to think and work like humans. AI scientists and engineers have made a lot of cool technologies.

AI is rapidly catching up with the human ability to read faces. As a result, facial recognition(识别) is used a lot in the world. Chinese police use this technology to identify criminals(罪犯). Once they caught a criminal when he attended a concert. It also checks the ID of ride-hailing(网约车) drivers and lets people pay for things with a smile.

AI is also used in self-driving cars, which are believed to be the future of driving. Most drivers may wave or nod at passers-by to let them cross the street, but self-driving cars don't have this ability. Carmakers are testing a light signal system to help them "speak" to humans. The system can show what self-driving cars will do. For example, if a driverless car is yielding(让路), it will flash two white lights side to side. A rapidly flashing light tells passers-by that the car is about to speed up.

Service Robots also show you how powerful AI is. Imagine this—you come back home from school and your robot housekeeper is waiting for you at the door. After dinner, he teaches you to play the piano, just like a real music teacher. Such thoughts will soon happen in the real world. In the future, more and more service robots will become good home helpers.

AI is so powerful that it can help human beings and even replace us in many jobs.

【1】What does the underlined word "identify" in Paragraph 2 probably mean?

    B.Making people smile.

    C.Calling the police.

    D.Checking people's information.

【3】Which technology has been used in real life according to the passage?

    A.Service Robots at school.

    B.Robots as ride-hailing drivers.

    C.Facial recognition for payment.

    D.Light signals for self-driving cars.

【4】What can we learn from the passage?

A.People use AI in many different ways.

B.AI will take the place of human beings in all jobs.

C.Self-driving cars will be able to talk like humans.

D.A criminal was caught for inventing facial recognition.

  • 27、If the only sports you do are dancing your fingers across your keyboard, you could be in serious danger of more than just becoming overweight and out of shape.

Do you often feel sleepy, like something is weighing down on your head? Do you feel forgetful? Do you sometimes feel uncomfortable up and down your neck and lower back, and you can’t explain why? Do you get sick often? It could be radiation (辐射) from your computer causing it. If you spend three hours or more a day in front of a computer (and at this point, who doesn’t?), you are more easily harmed by the hazards.

We have got so used to using computers that we often neglect (忽视) to think of them as dangerous sources of harmful radiation. A safe amount of radiation is 25 V/m (Volts/meter). Do you want to guess how much our personal computers give off?

    Keyboard: 1000 V/m

    Mouse: 450 V/m

    Monitor: 218V/m

    CPU: 170V/m

    Notebook computers: 2,500 V/m

Ways of Protect Yourself from Harmful Computer Radiation

    1. Decorate your desk with cactus (仙人掌) plants, they take in radiation.

    2. Drink two to three cups of green tea a day and eat an orange daily. The vitamins in tea leaves and oranges protect us from radiation and keep our eyes healthy as well.

    3. Use a screen filter(滤色镜) for your monitor.

    4. Avoid having metal objects (金属物体) nearby on your desk.

    5. Put the back of the computer to the wall. Most of the radiation comes off the back.

    6. Keep your monitor at least 50cm away from your face.

    7. Keep your computer rooms ventilated (空气流通的).

    8. Eat healthily-----especially fruits and vegetables.

    9. Don’t fall asleep on your computer. Turn it off if you have to rest nearby.

The ways above are useful, why not have a try at once?

【1】Sitting to close to your computer for too long can cause .

    A. your fingers to turn blue

    B. radiation sickness

    C. your parents to think you’re smart

    D. your games scores to go down

【2】The underlined word hazards in paragraph 2 means .

    A. illness B. feelings C. danger D. headache

【3】How can you avoid the affects (影响) of radiation?

    B. Use plastic to cover your screen.

    C. Type in a dark room.

    D. Have your cat do your homework for you.

【4】Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?

    A. Cactus plants take in harmful radiation.

    B. Eating healthily helps you stay well.

    C. You should fall asleep at your computer daily.

【5】The best title of the passage is   .

    A. Computer problems

    B. Computer radiation: a silent killer

    C. Protect yourself

    D. Harmful radiation

五、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 28、Read the passage and fill in the blanks with proper words

Everyone knows animals are our friends. So we should be friendly to them. But some people kill the rare animals, such as pandas, golden monkeys and so on in order to get money. It will cause these animals to disappear soon.

Perhaps the most famous rare animal is panda. Twenty years ago it was nearly extinct (灭绝的). Now, its n1 are growing again. It is even a symbol for wildlife conservation (保存,保护). But many other species have not been as l2 as the panda. Some are already extinct. Today, many more are in serious danger. This is because man hurts them and d3 their habitat. Is it too late to save wildlife?

A serious habitat problem arises (出现) because of pollution or o4 new lands. Habitats take many years to grow again. When the wild animals lose their homes, the natural balance is also changed. If one animal, bird, or insect d5, all the others suffer, too.

This is what is happening in the forests of South America. Africa and Asia. Habitats and animals are disappearing in Europe, too. Since 1947 in Britain, for example, 50% of the woods, low wet land, and 95% of meadows have disappeared. And what has taken the place of these green, natural places? Houses, farms, cities, streets, roads, and factories. Because of this (and pollution too) several British species are dying.

Then, what is the s6 ? There is only one way to save wild animals and wild habitats – conservation. This means man should protect animals in danger by establishing law, opening more national parks, building fewer new roads, planting more forests, and cutting pollution. If not, many wild animals will soon have just one habitat—the zoo!/

If everyone is involved in the p7 of wild life, we’re sure man will be a good friend of animals rather than their enemy.
