24、When I began to move to Auckland to study the law, my mother was a little worried about the uncertainty of living in a place that was so different from India, where we lived. She worried about the shortage of jobs and the cultural differences that I would face.
I came to New Zealand in July 2013. I found the people were very nice and supportive. Soon after I arrived, I realized the importance of getting a part time job to make a living.
Deciding to do this on my own, I spent a whole day going from door to door for a job. However, I received a little or no reply. This became my daily activity after college for a few weeks.
One afternoon, I walked into a building to ask if there were any job chances. The people there were very surprised, and advised me not to continue my job search in that way. As I was about to leave, a secretary in the building came up to me and encouraged me to stay confident. He then offered to take me to the Royal Oak area to search for a job.
Along the way, I realized I had run out of copies of my resume (简历). The man stopped at his friend’s office to make me 15 extra copies. He also gave me tips on dressing and speaking. I handed out my resume and went home. The following day, I received a call from a store in Royal Oak offering me a job.

The word “low-carbon” sounds familiar to most of us. But do you know “low-carbon community”? What is the community like? What benefits (好处) will it bring to our environment? Let’s have a look at Hanbei Road Community of Ya’an, Sichuan Province.
Walking into the community, people can see the hanging environmental slogans (环保标语) at first sight. And the most eye-catching items are idle bins (闲置物品投放箱) around. Many people in the community would give their idle things into the bins. Xu Juan, a mother of two, once put a pair of gloves there. “I think it’s meaningful to help others.”
In order to encourage more people to join in the “low-carbon” activity, the community introduced a reward program. Anyone can get some points if he/she gives idle things or takes part in volunteer activities. With certain points, people can exchange things in the “low-carbon supermarket” in the community.
There is also an “exchange corner” in the community. People can exchange their idle things with others. If he/she is not interested in any idle things in the corner, he/she can donate his/her things to poor families in the community.

A team of students who were successful in their work got together to visit their old teacher after graduating from college many years later. The talk soon turned into complaints about in work and life.
Before offering his students coffee, the teacher went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and different kinds of cups—plastic, glass, porcelain(陶瓷), crystal(水晶), some common and cheap, some beautiful and —telling them to help themselves to the coffee.
After all the guests had a cup of coffee in hand, the teacher said: “If you noticed, all the nice-looking expensive cups were taken, leaving behind the common and cheap ones. While it is for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is where your problems and stress come from. We all know that the cup itself no quality to the coffee. In most cases is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you all went for the best cups. God makes the coffee, not the cups. Enjoy your coffee!
