Energy is everywhere, but it’s not freely available. So what can we do to save energy? Let’s start from home. Here’s some advice.

25、 My 14 year - old son, John, and I saw the coat at the same time in a second - hand clothing store. It stood out among big and old coats. It was so beautiful and had an unbelievable price, $ 28. I looked at my son and we both said nothing, but John’s eyes shone. Dark, woolen coats were popular with teenage boys, but new ones could cost several hundred dollars. This coat was even better. John tried it on and turned from side to side, eyeing himself in the mirror. It fit him so well.
John wore the coat to school the next day. After he came home, I asked, “Did the kids like your coat?” “They love it,” he said with a big grin. Over the next few weeks, John changed. He was polite, less argumentative, more thoughtful, and much happier. “Good dinner, Mom,” he would say every evening. Without a word of complaining, he would carry in wood for the stove.
One day when I suggested that he might start on his homework before dinner, John, who always put things off, said, “You’re right. I guess I will.” When I mentioned this change to one of his teachers, she joked that the coat must have changed him.
John and I both know we should never judge a person by his clothes. But it is true that when wearing beautiful and suitable clothes, we may try to be better in thought, speech and behavior to match what is on the inside to what is on the outside.

26、 When I was young, my father often took me on short trips. On the way home from these trips, Dad often stopped at the Dairy Queen and bought me a 10-cent ice cream.
One day, we were on our way home and I was hoping Dad would do the same. And he did.
"Would you like an ice cream today?" asked Dad.
"That sounds great, Dad!"
But then he said, "It sounds good to me too, son. Would you like to treat me today?"
Twenty cents! I could afford it. But when it was my money, an ice cream just wasn't a good use of it.
Then I said those awful words to him, "Well, in that case, I guess I'll pass. "
My father just said, "Okay, son. "
But as we turned to go home, I realized how wrong I was. Why didn't I take it as a good chance to give something back to my father? Why didn't I think that he had bought 50 ice creams, and I had never bought him one? But all I could think was"20 cents"!
I felt awful for my ingratitude. Dad had done so much for me. Shouldn't I do something in return? Love is a two-way street. One must put into what he or she has taken out.
Dad and I went on another trip the next week, and as we passed the corner, I said, "Dad, would you like an ice cream today? My treat. "

27、In March 2014, Australia opened junior high education to Chinese students, allowing them to study in Australian schools from the seventh grade.
“When more Chinese students are going to study abroad at a younger age, the opening of Australian junior high schools offers Chinese students and their parents one more good choice,” Tian Litie, director of the Australian Department of Chivast Education International, said at the China International Education Exhibition Tour over the weekend.
Australia will see a rise in the number of Chinese junior and senior high school students studying in the country. Tian showed the reasons for it: lower admission (入学许可) requirements and low-cost education because of a favorable exchange rate (费率). According to Tian, in public schools in Australia a student should pay A$13,000 to A$15,000 ($10,000 to $12,000) a year.
“Now the exchange rate of the Australian dollar to renminbi is below five, which means the cost is lower than that of Chinese students studying at junior and senior high schools in many other hot places, such as Britain and the US,” said Tian.
Lin Lina from Beijing plans to send her daughter to a senior high school in Australia, was among them.
“My daughter is good at English and would like to study abroad early,” said Lin, whose daughter is now a ninth-grader in Beijing. “We came for more information after we learned that the environment and education in Australia are good.”
Eliza Chui, education officer for North Asia at the Australian Consulate-General in Shanghai, said that Australia is attractive not only because it provides an environment for learning English, but also because students are trained to have critical (批判性的) thinking and be independent.
【1】According to Tian Litie, we know that ______.
A. more and more Chinese students study abroad at a younger age
B. more and more Australian universities are open to Chinese students
C. Chinese students are only allowed to study in Australia from senior high school
D. a student should pay A$10,000 to A$12,000 a year in public schools in Australia
【2】What does the word “it” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Australia allows Chinese students to study in its schools.
B. More and more Chinese students go abroad at a younger age.
C. More Chinese junior and senior high school students will study in Australia.
D. Australian schools offer Chinese students and their parents one more good choice.
【3】According to the article, which of the following is TRUE?
A. The cost of studying in American schools is lower than in Australia.
B. The exchange rate of the Australian dollar is of advantage to Chinese students.
C. It’s more difficult for Chinese students to enter Australian junior high schools.
D. Few students choose to study in Britain or the US because of too much money.[
