  • 1、阅读下面的短文,将画线的句子译成英文或中文。

“What would have happened if I hadn’t lost that necklace? Who knows? ” Mathilde’s heart is filled with sadness and regret...This is the tragedy and ironic(讽刺的) ending of “The Necklace”written by Guy de Maupassant(居伊..莫泊桑).

The story takes place in Paris. One day, Pierre gets an invitation to a palace ball. He thinks it important to him, and decides to go to the party with his wife Mathilde, a young woman who admires upper-class lifestyle very much.

65.Hearing the news, she gets worried and nervous instead of excitement and happiness, She is so poor that she has no new dress and no jewelry(珠宝) to wear, 66.她甚至可以想象她会被别人嘲笑。

Her husband spends 400 francs on a new dress and she herself borrows a diamond(钻石) necklace from her good friend Jeanne .67.这对夫妇在宫廷舞会上感到非常成功。But on their way home, she finds the necklace is no longer around her neck. They rush back to look for it. But they can’t find it .The young couple borrow a great deal of money and buy a necklace that is exactly like Jeanne’s. It costs them 36,000 francs.68.So they have to work day and night to pay back the money they have borrowed. After ten years of hard work to pay back all the money, Mathilde looks so old that Jeanne even can’t recognize her when they meet. When Jeanne hears the story, she tells Mathilde the necklace isn’t a real diamond necklace. It is worth 500 francs at most.

Vanity (虚荣)may lead to the loss of ourselves. Accept who we are ! 69. Be true to ourselves or others, and it will lead us to get happiness.

  • 25、Many children first learn the value of money by receiving an allowance (pocket money). The purpose isto let children learn from experiences at an age when financial (财务的) mistakes are not very costly.

How much money that parents give to their children to spend as they wish is quite different from family to family. Timing is another consideration. Some children get a weekly allowance. Others get a monthly allowance.

In any case, parents should make clear what, if anything, the child is expected to pay for with the money. At first, young children may spend all of their allowance soon after they receive it. If they do this, they will learn the hard way that spending must be done within a budget (预算). Parents are usually advised not to offer more money until the next allowance. The object is to show young people that a budget requires a choice between spending and saving. Older children may be responsible enough to save money for larger costs, like clothing or electronics.

Many people who have written on the subject of allowances say it is not a good idea to pay your children for work around the home. These jobs are a normal part of family life. Paying children to do other work around the house, however, can be useful. It can even provide an understanding of how a business works.

Allowances give children a chance to experience the three things they do with money. They can share it in the form of gifts or giving a good cause. They can spend it by buying things they want. Or they can save it.

Saving helps children understand that costly goals sometimes need to give up something. You have to cut costs and plan for the future. Requiring children to save part of their allowances can also open the door to future saving and investing. Many banks offer services to help children and teenagers learn about personal finance. A saving account (账户) is an excellent way to learn about the power of compound interest (复利息).

Compounding works by paying interest. So, for example, one dollar invested at two percent interest for two years will get two percent of one dollar and two cents, and so on. That may not seem like a lot, but over time it adds up.

【1】Parents give their children allowance in order to ______.

    A.let them make more money

B.pay for the housework they do

C.let them learn the value of money

    D.help children manage family finance

2What is the second paragraph mainly about?

    A.The time to give allowance.

    B.The way to spend allowance.

C.How much allowance given to children.

    D.Considerations taken to give allowances.

3Why are parents advised to offer children allowances as planned?

A.To have children save money for larger costs.

B.To give them more allowances next time.

C.To help children learn to make a budget.

D.To let children make fewer mistakes.

4What does the writer try to tell us?

    A.The ways of limiting allowances.

B.The advice on a better family budget.

    C.Offering allowance to children properly.

D.Teaching children to use allowances wisely.

  • 26、   Whatever life threw at us each year, our family had one tradition at Christmas: our dog Pepper opened our presents for us.

Last year, everyone made it home for a Christmas get-together. However, it couldn’t feel perfect because Pepper's health was becoming worse. Her life had already been longer than we expected—she was fourteen—and yet her mind was still sharp. Her love for life made us feel better. But her body could not keep up with her mind.

Probably it was Pepper's last Christmas, so we decided to make sure she would enjoy it. On Christmas Eve, we each prepared presents for her.

Soon, Pepper selected her first Christmas gift. She turned the present, just as she was a young dog once more. She pulled the paper off the dog treat before she chewed it slowly. Our family was so happy.

Pepper saw the other three presents, and then turned to Mom as if asking, "May I open another?”

    "Go ahead, girl!" Mom encouraged.

For the next few minutes, Pepper opened each of her Christmas presents. While she did, she reminded us of the joy of being together. Our family felt as a whole—not because we were in the same room or city, but because our love brought us together.

Pepper passed away after Christmas. Her peaceful passing made us tearful. Her passing was also a celebration of life, because she gave my family so much love and laughter.

I still treasure(珍惜)Pepper's final Christmas gift. She taught me that no matter where we each spend the holidays, the smallest act of sincere (诚挚的)giving can unite(团结)our family through our love. For me, that knowledge is the longest-lasting gift of all.

    A.he didn't get a Christmas gift

    B.Pepper was in poor health

    C.Pepper died on Christmas Eve

D.he didn’t feel the joy of being together

3The underlined phrase "the longest-lasting gift" in the last paragraph refers to _________.

    A.the friendship with Pepper

B.the holiday the author spent with family

    C.the Christmas present for Pepper

D.the life lesson learned from Pepper

4Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage?

A.Pepper passed away peacefully after Christmas.

B.The smallest act of sincere giving can unite the authors family.

C.Pepper brought the author's family a lot of trouble and tears.

D.The author's family felt as a whole because of the love among them.

5The best title for the passage can be ______________________.

C.The Importance of Helping Others D.Enjoying the Happiness of Making Friends

  • 27、   In today's world, sleep experts say that for a better night's rest, Americans should turn off their smartphones or iPads before sleeping. Such electronic products make the brain more active, and then influence people's sleep. But according to a latest survey, more than 90% of Americans usually use a computer or some other kinds of electronic products in the hour before bed.

Researchers found that man-made light from some electronic products at night might reduce the levels of the brain chemicals that help sleep. The researchers showed that sitting in the light from tablets clearly reduced the levels of the chemicals which manage our body clocks and play a great role in the sleep cycle.

In the study, the researchers let volunteers read, play games and watch movies on a tablet for different time while measuring how much light their eyes received. They found that sitting for two hours before a bright tablet at night reduced the levels of the chemicals by about 22%.

Studies of students using computers at night have got the similar results. And researchers said that might not only cause sleeplessness, but also increase the risk of obesity(肥胖症), diabetes(糖尿病) and other diseases.

To be on the safe side, the researchers advise us to use computers less before bed, or turn down our screens low.

1What can we learn from the first paragraph?

A.Americans don't get enough sleep. B.Electronic products are very popular.

C.The brain becomes more active at night. D.Sleep experts never use smartphones.

2How many electronic products influence people's sleep?

A.By making our brains more tired. B.By making our bodies weak.

C.By reducing the levels of the brain chemicals that help us sleep. D.By changing our body clocks.

3What does the underlined word "that" refer to?

A.Making a survey about sleep. B.Using smartphones in the daytime.

C.Sitting in a bright room. D.Surfing the Internet at night.

4What do the researchers advise us to do to have a good sleep?

A.Learn to use smartphones or iPads. B.Watch some relaxing TV programs.

C.Turn down the screens low. D.Try to sleep earlier than before.
