四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   The days of having to carry a phone charger(充电器) everywhere could soon be over. Researchers from America have made great progress in getting energy from human motion(运动). They say smartphones could get enough power just by the motion of fingers on the screen.

The low-cost device(装置) has already been tested in an American university. Scientists successfully showed an LED touch screen, a total of 20 LED lights and a keyboard, all with a simple touching or pressing motion and without the help of a battery.

“What I predicted is the possibility of not having to charge your smartphone for a whole week, for example, because that energy will be produced by your motion,” said one of the researchers.

The completed device is as thin as a piece of paper. Electrical energy is created when you press it. The device used to power the LED lights is the size of a hand while the device used to power the touch screen is as small as a finger.

The device will become more powerful when folded. Each time you fold it, the energy you create will be doubled. You can start with a large device, but when you fold it once, and again, and again. It's now much smaller, but it has more energy. It may be small enough to put in a specially made heel(脚后跟) of your shoe so it can create power each time your heel knocks the ground. The researchers are also developing technology that would send the power produced from the heel strike to an earphone.

1According to researchers from America, smartphones will get power from .

A.the moving of fingers B.a new kind of battery

C.the moving of heads D.the solar energy

2How long may the new way keep your smartphone powered?

    A.One day. B.Two days. C.One week. D.Half a month.

3How large is the device used to power the touch screen?

A.The size of a book. B.The size of a finger.

C.The size of a sheet of paper. D.The size of a hand.

4What does the passage mainly tell us?

A.A new kind of smartphone. B.A new kind of LED lights.

C.A kind of LED touch screen. D.A new way to gain energy.

  • 25、Graduates all face a reality of hunting for a job, the performance of employees(员工) influence their life directly. However, some critics(挑剔的人) argue that creating a close relationship with coworkers and superior(上级) plays the most important part. But the defenders(保守的人) assume(认定) that the knowledge they learned at universities decide most. In my opinion, studying hard in school is the major factor(因素) for a satisfying career.

To tell the truth, a good relationship with leaders is good for a promotion (提升). When they are close to the leader, they could get an information directly and quickly, and get better chances to be promoted. For instance, a roommate of mine, working in the student’s union, developed a close friendship with the chief. So when he left the union, he promoted her as the chief directly. The ability of her and her fellow workmates is almost of the same standard. With the advantage of successful relationship, she wins at last.

The importance of studying hard at school is better than that of good relationship. Real skills make sure of a steady(稳定的) performance in a company. That is, only skillful employees can survive in a company. An uncle of mine, for example, fight for his future in a company. He is really a cold man, and always serious but hard-working at school. It is the knowledge which promise him a bright future. Bosses only desire for talented workers who will create profits(利益) for them. When it comes to cutting members, the smart people with relationship will surely be cut firstly, however men with real skills would be the last to be cut.

More significantly(意味深长的), hard-working is a special feature even in a company. Hard-working is the deposit(积蓄、积累) of years, it’s a special attitude throughout one’s life. People who study hard at school are more likely to study hard in their career. When we were in a university, hard-working promised a great academic performance(学业成绩). When we are in a company, hard-working made us adapt(适应) better and faster to a new condition. In our life, hard-working get us to continue learning all the time. There is no wonder that graduates working hard at school have better performance in their career.

From what have been discussed above, we may safely draw a conclusion (得出结论) that working hard in school is more important. Workers studying hard at school have better ability to solve problems. On the contrary(相反), for people depend on getting along well with others, their career seems to be unsteady.

1Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the writer’s view?

    A. Nowadays, it is becoming more and more difficult for the graduates to get a satisfying job after leaving university.

    B. As long as you work hard at school, it will be easy for you to get a satisfying job after leaving university.

    C. Whether to find a satisfying job has much to do with a graduate’s future life.

    D. The knowledge a graduate learn at university can make sure of a satisfying job after leaving university.

2In fact, a good relationship with leaders is of great help to ________.

    A. getting a good job   B. one’s career   C. better performance   D. promotion

3In the writer’s opinion, which of the following factors is the most important in hunting for a job after leaving university?

    A. Working hard at universities.   B. A good relationship with leaders.

    C. Adapt to the new job better and faster.   D. A special attitude in through out one’s life.

4People studying hard at universities maybe ______________. People who study hard at school are more likely to study hard in their career.

    A. study hard in their career   B. make sure of great academic performance

    C. create more profits for their companies   D. all the above

5What kind of graduates can solve the problems in one’s work better?

    A. A graduate with good relationship with others.   B. A graduate with a great academic performance.

    C. A graduate with a good promotion.   D. A graduate with a great job.

I would like to talk to you about space vegetables, and to show you that space vegetables are healthy and good for you.

Space vegetables are grown from seeds(种子) that have been taken to and brought back from outer space. The seeds are affected by radiation and low gravity in outer space. When they are brought back to the Earth, these seeds produce vegetables that are bigger, healthier and more nutritious (有营养的)than normal vegetables. However, some people worry about eating space vegetables. They think that space vegetables might not be good for us and could give us cancer as a result of their exposure (暴露)to radiation in space. People should not be scared, as space vegetables are actually perfectly healthy.

Here are some facts that you should know about space vegetables:

Space vegetables are grown from seeds that are carefully selected. When seeds are brought back from space, they are tested to make sure that the vegetables they grow will be safe to eat. There are no traces of radiation after testing.

Space vegetables are better for you than normal vegetables. For example, space tomatoes stay fresh for twenty days, which is one week longer than normal tomatoes. Another popular space vegetable is the pepper(辣椒). Space peppers contain 20 per cent more Vitamin C than normal peppers.

After genetically modified(改进的) foods come onto the market, people worry that they are eating unknown things. For example, if nut genes are put inside potatoes, people allergic(对...过敏) to nuts might get very sick from eating these potatoes because they do not know they are also eating nuts. Unlike genetically modified foods, space vegetables have not been genetically changed. This means that no new genes are put into the vegetables. Therefore, they won’t damage your health.

    Space vegetables

Space vegetables are healthy, good and safe for you to eat.

Steps taken to ensure the quality of space vegetables

Before being taken to the outer space, the seeds are carefully selected.

When being brought back from space, seeds are 【1】 to see whether there are traces of radiation which might 【2】 to cancer. The testing has proved that they are perfectly healthy.

    【4】 of space vegetables

After being 【3】 by the radiation and low gravity in outer space, the seeds produce bigger and healthier vegetables. For example, space peppers contain more Vitamin C.

Space tomatoes stay much longer than normal tomatoes.

There is no 【5】 of eating something that may damage your health because none of the genes is changed.
