24、I’m learning English in the UK where I meet a lot of new friends and eat something delicious. Hot pot is many Chinese people’s favourite food, including me. After having three days of hamburgers, sandwiches and potatoes in the UK, how excited I was to know that there was going to be a free meal of hotpot to welcome the new students. On the way to the canteen, I seemed to smell the hot pot in the air. To my surprise, when I stepped into the room, in front of me were still potatoes and bread. Where was the hot pot?
With many questions in my head, I sat down to have the free meal. After talking with a French girl, I got to know that hot pot is completely different from hotpot. Chinese hot pot is written in two words and hotpot, one word, is a traditional English dish.
Hotpot is made of mutton(羊肉) and onion. On the top there are sliced potatoes. People put it in the stove all day in a heavy pot and on a low heat. You can often see it at parties in the UK because it’s easy to prepare for a large number of people and not expensive.
Hotpot doesn’t taste bad. However, I still miss hot pot, two words!

There was nowhere to run, so the bear jumped onto the rail and began to fall over the side.
Luckily, the bear pulled herself onto an arch(拱)under the bridge, but she was trapped there. A driver saw the unbelievable scene and called 911. Unfortunately. The sky was getting dark, so the rescuers had to wait. Early next morning, the two men returned to the bridge with more volunteers. Amazingly, the bear was still there. Dave had an idea—they should hang a net under the bear, push her into it, and then lower her to the ground.
Police officers closed the road,. After the net was in position, Robert immediately shot a dart(飞镖)with a sleeping drug into the bear’s shoulder. When the bear was sleepy, Ann Bryant, the head of the BEAR League, yelled, “OK, push!” A volunteer rock climber used his feet to push the bear off the arch, right into the middle of the net!
Firefighters volunteered to lower the 100-kilogram bear. When she touched to ground, everyone cheered. Ann and Robert guided the sleepy bear to a river, where she could finally get a drink. “She just kind of lay down on her tummy and out her paws under her chin,”said Ann, “like a dog lying on the living room floor...only big!”The rescuers then cleared all the people there and left the bear alone.
