23、During the 2016 RIO Olympics, people were surprised to see the round, purple marks on the body of the famous American swimmer Michael Phelps. What happened to him? In fact, he just visited a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and had “cupping”(拔火罐).
Massage(按摩) and acupuncture(针灸) are two other important kinds of TCM. Chinese massage can make you relaxed and fresh. In acupuncture, doctors put long needles(针) into the patients’ hands, faces, arms. It takes away pain(疼痛), though the look is funny.
TCM is an important part of Chinese culture. The earliest medical classic(药典) in China, Huangdi’s Classic on medicine, came out more than 2000 years ago. The book is about man and nature. In Chinese culture, yin and yang are two parts of nature. Nature keeps balanced(平衡) if yin and yang work well together. The human body needs such a balance, too. TCM helps do that. Especially for some health problems, a doctor of TCM will not give you medicine. Instead, he may give you just a food plan and right ways to eat.
For example, it is common to eat on the way to school, at our desk, or in front of the TV. But TCM thinks it’s wrong. Here are the correct ways: Sit down to eat. While eating, turn off the TV and get away from the work desk. Eat seasonal foods. Do not miss any of the three meals. Also, get your body moving often, just as the saying goes, “Running water is never stale.”
Nowadays, Traditional Chinese Medicine is becoming more and more popular around the world. A government report says that people in 183 countries and areas are now using TCM.
【1】In the first paragraph, the writer mentioned Michael Phelps__________.
A.to give an example of a good swimmer
B.to introduce a doctor of TCM

D.to introduce the Rio Olympics

24、In the 1950s, a female swimmer set a goal for herself. She decided to swim across the English Channel(海峡) before she retired(退休). If she could make it, she would be the first person in the world who did it.
On that day, she jumped into the sea and swam towards the opposite bank.
In the journey, she faced heavy fog, heavy rain and heavy waves(波浪). Though she was very tired, she carried on swimming.
But in the end, she gave up. And what she didn’t know at the moment she gave up was that the opposite bank(海岸) was only 1 mile away.
Later people asked her about the reason. And she said “The reason why I gave up is that I could not see the destination(目的地) which I was so close to.”
Too many success stories have been telling us about courage and persistence(坚持). But they never told us where to find courage(勇气) and persistence.
You can have courage only when you know where your goal is. You can succeed in persisting only when you know where your goal is, and prepare yourself well mentally(心理上).
Courage and persistence never fall from the sky. They come from weighing between input and output.
A life without goals is like a ship without a compass(指南针). It goes nowhere. There is no courage or persistence in a life without goals.
【1】What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A.Being retired.
B.Swimming across the English Channel.
C.Swimming towards the bank.
D.Setting a goal.
【2】Why did the athlete give up?
A.The bank was one mile away.
B.She was too tired.
C.She didn’t have courage at first.
D.She thought her destination was far away.
【3】What can be inferred (推论) from the last sentence of the passage?
A.If you have courage and persistence, you have goals.
B.Even if you have no goals, you have courage to persist.
C.There is no courage or persistence unless you know your goals.
D.Between input and output, you must find courage and persistence.
