21、Two men were staying in the same room in a hospital. One man was so sick that he could not even move his body or look around the room. The other man could move, but was also very ill.
Over time, the two men became good friends. They shared lots of things together and even talked about what they hoped to do after they got better. But there was one thing about the room that was special for both of them. The man who could move would look out of the room’s only window, describing the scenery outside for his friend. He told him about the people walking by, the weather — anything that might interest a man who had not seen the world beyond his bed for some time.
One day, when a nurse came to check on the two men, she found that the man who often looked out of the window had died in his sleep. Sadly, she informed the other man that his friend had died and called for nurses to take the dead man away. The other man asked to be moved to the dead man’s bed so that he could look out of the window himself. The nurses moved him to the other bed. However, the man found that there was no window at all — just a blank wall.
The nurses explained that the dead man had been blind. He had never actually seen anything outside the window at all — but he described beautiful scenes to encourage his friend. Sometimes all we need in life is a little encouragement — even if it comes from an unlikely place.

D.he wanted to look at the world outside
【3】Which of the following statements about the dead man is NOT true?
A.He was unable to see anything.
B.The nurse didn’t know that he was blind.
C.He helped his roommate feel better.
D.He died when he was sleeping.
22、 ①Today, it is a big problem for young people to get fine jobs after they leave university. It is said that there are thousands of different kinds of jobs in the world. But choosing the right one itself often worries young people.
②“Finding a job” is not the same as “choosing a job”. Many young people end up in jobs that they are not suitable(合适的) for. Here are a few steps to help you think about jobs which you might enjoy doing after school or university.
③First, it is important to know what kind of person you are, which special qualities(品质) make you be better than others and what you are interested in. There is a difference between an interest and a skill. If you like art and enjoy looking at pictures, that is an interest. But if you can draw a horse that looks like a horse not a big dog, that is a skill.
④Then ask yourself a question, “Of the following three skills—skill with people, skill with information and skill with things, which is my best skill?”
⑤After finding out your best skill, the next step is to research(调查). To find out as many different kinds of jobs as possible, go to the library and read books, magazines and newspapers for information. Ask your friends what they think of the work they do.
⑥The last step is to trust your own ideas and your own thinking! It is your own life. Just find the job you really enjoy doing.
【1】Paragraph 1 tells us that it's ________ to choose a right job.
A.easy B.hard C.necessary D.different

24、C. Read the passage and fill in the blanks with proper words.
Anxiety is the appropriate emotion when the personal terror – of a volcano, an arrow, a stab(刺伤) in the back and other disasters, all directed against one’s self – d【1】.
The kind of world that produces anxiety is actually a world of relative s【2】, a world in which no one feels that he himself is facing sudden death. The anxiety exists as an uneasy state of mind, in which one has a feeling that something unspecified(不具体的) and indeterminable may go wrong. If the world seems to be going well, this produces anxiety – for good times may end. If the world is going badly – it may get w【3】. Anxiety tends to be without f【4】; the anxious person doesn’t know whether to blame himself or other people. He isn’t sure whether it is the current year of the administration or a change in climate or the atom bomb that is to blame for this undefined sense of unease.
It is clear that we have developed a society which depends on having the right amount of anxiety to make it work. W【5】 we agree that too much anxiety is harmful to mental health, we have come to rely on anxiety to push us into seeing a doctor about a symptom which may indicate cancer, into checking up on that old life insurance policy which may have out-of-date terms in it, into having a conference with our child’s teacher even though his report card looks all right.
People who are anxious enough keep their car insurance up, have the brakes checked, don’t take a drink when they have to drive. People who are too anxious either r【6】 to go into cars – and so complicate the ordinary course of life – or drive so tensely and carefully that they help avoid accidents. People who aren’t anxious enough take their c【7】, which increases the terrible accidents of the roads.
