Do you have friends or relatives (亲戚) who live in other parts of China? For example, perhaps you live in Beijing, but you have cousins in Chongqing. But luckily, if you want to call them on the phone or do a video chat with them, you don’t have to worry about which time zone (时区) you’re in. This is because almost all of China follows a single standard time.
But some countries have many different time zones. For example, the US alone has five different time zones. My hometown is in the Eastern Time Zone. But my friends in California are in the Pacific Time Zone, which is three hours behind my time zone. So if I want to call them, I have to schedule it with them ahead of time to make sure we’re both available (有空) at the same time.
Actually, there is one exception (例外) in China when it comes to time zones: the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. In this region, people either follow Beijing Time — the time that the rest of the country follows — or Xinjiang Time, which is roughly two hours behind Beijing Time. People in Xinjiang have to be clear whether they’re using Xinjiang Time or Beijing Time when making plans with each other.
For the first year I lived in China, I would often get phone calls from my mother very late at night because she forgot to consider the time difference. My hometown is exactly 12 hours behind China time! But by now, my family, friends and I have gotten used to the difference.
【1】Which of these places doesn’t follow the Beijing time zone?
A.California. B.Beijing. C.Chongqing.
【2】If it is 9:00 am in the writer’s hometown, what time is it in California?
A.6:00 am B.12:00 pm C.5:00 pm

A.always follow Beijing Time
B.have to work two more hours per day
C.may follow Beijing Time or Xinjiang Time
【4】When the writer lived in Guangzhou at 11:00 am, what time is it in writer’s hometown?
A.6:00 am B.11:00 pm C.12:00 pm
【5】From the last paragraph, we know that _______.
A.time zones can affect people lives
B.the writer has gotten used to the time difference
C.the writer dislikes the time difference
