21、There are many wetlands in China and some of them have become the world’s important wetlands. The Chinese Yellow Sea Wetlands are among them. They are in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. They are home for many different kinds of birds and animals. The world’s largest Milu Deer Nature Reserve is in them. More than 700 milu deer live freely there. There are not many red-crowned cranes in the world, but every winter you can see some in the Red-crowned Cranes Nature Reserve in the Yellow Sea Wetlands.
The temperature in the wetlands is usually neither too high nor too low. There is a lot of rain and sunshine, too. They are really good places for wildlife. Offering food and home for some special kinds of animals and birds is not the only reason why we need to protect wetlands. Wetlands are important because they also prevent flood. But some people want to change the wetlands to make more space for farms and buildings. This means there will be less and less space for wildlife.
Luckily, more and more people are beginning to realize the important of wetlands and wildlife. Every year, on February 2nd, many activities are held to tell people more about wetlands.

22、The Arctic, Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans are the four oceans we learned about in the Geography class. But now we have a new ocean.
On World Ocean Day, which falls on June 8, the National Geographic Society announced it would recognize(承认)the Southern Ocean in Antarctica(南极洲).
Unlike the Arctic, Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans—which are defined by the continents(大陆)around them, the Southern Ocean is instead characterized by the Antarctic Circumpolar Current(南极绕极流). According to National Geographic, the Southern Ocean includes most of the waters surrounding Antarctica out to 60 degrees south latitude(纬度).
“It’s reported that it is the only ocean to touch three others and to completely embrace(包围)a continent rather than being embraced by several continents,” Sylvia Earle, an American biologist and oceanographer, told the Daily Mail.
Those familiar with the Southern Ocean know it’s unlike any other ocean. “Anyone who has been there will find it difficult to explain what’s so amazing about it, but they’ll all agree that the glaciers(冰川)are bluer, the air colder, the mountains more frightening and the landscapes more attractive than anywhere else you can go,” Seth Sykora-Bodie, a marine scientist, told National Geographic.
Because of the different environment of the Southern Ocean, it’s home to thousands of unique species(物种). The ocean also has wider ecological effects. For example, humpback whales are known to feed on small shrimp off Antarctica during the summer before moving north to the warmer climates of Central and South America for the colder winter months, according to the Daily Mail.
The National Geographic Society hopes their revised(修订过的)maps will help the public learn more about the area, and it helps to encourage Southern Ocean protection—but its importance is even beyond that.
“We think it’s very important from an educational standpoint to bring attention to the Southern Ocean as a fifth ocean,” Alex Tait, a geographer, told the Post. “So when students learn about parts. of the ocean world, they learn it’s an interconnected ocean, and they learn there are these areas called oceans that are really important, and that there’s a special one in the icy waters around Antarctica.”
【1】We can learn about these oceans in the Geography class EXCEPT _________.
A.the Indian Ocean
B.the Pacific Ocean
C.the Southern Ocean
D.the Atlantic Ocean
【2】Which of the following is TRUE?
A.The Southern Ocean is embraced by the continents.

C.A continent is embraced by the Southern Ocean.
D.All the oceans are defined by the continents.

23、Vicky Zhao is from the mainland working in Hong Kong. For her, one thing she can't stand is people standing on the wrong side of the escalator(自动扶梯) in subway stations.
“Escalators help us move faster and save time. It isn't a place to rest,” the 24yearold says, “I often see tourists blocking(挡住) the way with their heavy suitcases or chatting on the escalators during rush hour. It makes me very angry.”
Agreeing that she is not the patient type, Zhao says things are much better in Hong Kong than in cities on the mainland where people often pay no attention to “stand right, walk left” signs.
The reason behind the rule “stand right, walk left” seems clear. Even though you may want to have a rest and just wait while you're transported up or down, you should still consider others and leave enough space for people in a hurry, so that they can run and take the train.
But the people who stand on escalators will tell the walkers not to be so impatient. In a recent story about the escalator rule, one stander says, “If the person is in such a rush, why not just take the stairs?”
Many cities' escalators, including London's and Beijing's, use the “stand right, walk left” rule to speed up the movement of people. (In Australian cities like Sydney you should stand on the left side instead.) But some cities discourage people from moving on escalators out of safety reasons. In Hong Kong's subway stations people are asked to “stand still” on escalators. Even so, most people keep the “stand right, walk left” rule.
Whatever the escalator rule is in the place you live in or visit, do what most people are doing and always be mindful of others; leave enough space between each other; don't stay at the end of the escalator, and if someone is blocking your way, a simple “excuse me” is enough.
【1】According to the passage, Vicky Zhao ________.
A.comes from Hong Kong
B.is a 24yearold girl
C.wants to be a patient person
D.works in a subway station
【2】The passage mentions that people are advised not to move on the escalator in ________.
