四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、A new font(字体)designed by a Finnish software company could make your writing more polite. And hopefully it could help reduce cyberbullying(网络暴力).

Polite Type, developed by TietoEVRY, replaces(代替)harmful language with nicer words. For example, if you type “You are ugly,” it will be replaced with “You are not traditionally beautiful.”

“We want bullies(欺凌者)to rethink the words they use and the influence of the words on others,” said the company manager Kia Haring.

The problem of cyberbullying has been around since the Internet was invented. Nearly everyone who has used the Internet has experienced it.

Polite Type is a good step in the right direction. But how do we really deal with cyberbullying? For one, we can choose to be “invisible(隐形的)”. That is, to surf the Internet without making any personal details or leaving any reviews. This, however, forces us to give up our right to “exist(存在)” online.

We can also choose not to care about bullies. However, this isn’t perfect either, as it can be hard to forget people who are especially cruel(残酷的).

A better way is to block(拦截)and report. If you block someone on social media, they won’t see or make reviews on your posts. Most websites have rules against harmful language. If you report a bully to the website, they will often stop that person from using it. It’s best to take direct action like this.

    【1】What is Polite Type?

    A.A kind of cyberbullying.

    B.A Finnish software company.

C.A font that can rewrite harmful language.

D.An organization that deals with bullies.

【2】According to the second paragraph, if you type “I hate you,” it will be replaced with ________.

    A.You are too silly

B.You are as good as a pig

    C.I disagree with you

    D.You are born foolish

【3】What does the company manager Kia Haring mean in Paragraph 3?

A.Bullies often have good influence on others.

B.Bullies often use polite words to chat online.

C.Bullies should rethink what they are doing.

D.Bullies should express their opinions clearly.

【4】What are the last three paragraphs about?

    A.How cyberbullying influences our life.

B.What we can do to deal with cyberbullying.

C.How Polite Type can protect us from bullying.

D.What rules websites should make to stop bullies.

【5】What does the writer think is the best way to deal with cyberbullying?

    A.To use Polite Type.

    B.To leave no reviews.

    C.To care little about bullies.

D.To block and report a bully.

  • 25、Jed couldn’t keep the tears running down his face. His friend,  Rob, wanted to help, but the more he talked about it, the worse Jed felt.

“I know how terrible you must feel,” Rob said. “Everyone on the team thought the coach would choose you. He must be crazy to let Tom swim the breaststroke ( 蛙泳) !”

When the coach told him about the date and place of the state swimming meeting for boys of 15 and under, Jed was sure he would be swimming the breaststroke. He even told his family that the team couldn't win the event without him. When the coach chose Tom Timmons,  the new boy from Spring-field, to swim the breaststroke, Jed could hardly believe it. Coach Robertson told Jed he could swim on the relay team, but that offered little consolation.

“I may leave the team ” he told Rob. “I’d rather not swim at all than be on the relay team.”

“I don’ t know whether you should do that or not,” Rob said.  “We need you on the relay team. Of course,  if you say you won’t swim at all,  the coach may change his mind and let you swim the breaststroke.”

Jed left Rob and headed towards home. He knew it would be embarrassing to have to tell his family and his friends that someone else would take his place. He wondered if he should make up a story and tell his mom and dad that he asked the coach to put the new boy in. Jed didn’t know what to do.

1We can know from the reading that __________

    A. Rob failed to help Jed

    B. Jed didn’t want to swim the breaststroke at all

    C. Tom would swim on the relay team

    D. the coach chose both Jed and Tom for the breast-stroke

2The word “consolation” in the reading means______.

    A. something that makes you feel sad

    B. something that makes you feel better

    C. another chance to swim the breaststroke

    D. another chance to be on the relay team

3The best title of this reading should be______.

    A. Too Good to Swim

    B. It’s Terrible to Be Out

    C. The Coach and Jed

    D. The Relay Team

4If Jed really makes up a story, it might be that____.

    A. the coach thought Tom would do better

    B. he was not good enough to swim

    C. he wanted Tom to swim instead of him

    D. his friend Rob wanted to swim

  • 26、For most people, the word “fashion” means “clothes”. But people may ask the question, “What clothes are in fashion?” And they use the word “fashionable” in the same way. “She was wearing a fashionable coat. His shirt was really a fashionable colour.”

But of course there are fashions in many things, not only in clothes. There are fashions in holidays, in restaurants, in films and books. There are even fashions in school subjects, jobs ... and in languages.

Fashions change as time goes. If you look at pictures of people or things from the past, you will see that fashions have always changed. An English house of 1750 was different from one of 1650. A fashionable man in 1780 looked very different from his grandson in 1860.

Today fashions change very quickly. Some of this is natural. We hear about things much more quickly than in the past. Newspapers, radios, telephones and televisions send information from one country to another in a few hours.

New fashions mean that people will buy new things, so you see there is money in fashion.

【1】Today fashions change very quickly because ________.

    A.people read newspapers every day

B.radios send information from one country to another

C.new things that people like are often shown on TV

D.people quickly learn what is happening in the world

【2】In the 4th paragraph the writer mentions ________ kinds of ways to send information.

    A.three

    B.four

    C.five

    D.six

【3】The passage is mainly about ________.

    A.the changes of fashions

    B.the kinds of colours

    C.the money in fashion

    D.the differences between houses

  • 27、A little stream(小溪) ran down from a high mountain through many villages and forests. Then it reached a desert, “I went through so many difficulties. I should have no problem crossing the desert, ”she thought. As she started, she found herself slowly disappearing into the sand. After many tries, she still failed.

At this time, a deep voice said, “If a breeze(微风) can cross the desert, so can a river.” It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered, “That's because a breeze can fly, but I can't.”

“That's because you can't give up what you are. Let yourself evaporate(蒸发) into the breeze, and it can take you across,” said the desert.

“Give up what I am now? No! No!” The little stream could not accept this idea.

“The breeze can carry the vapor(蒸气) across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a river again,” said the desert.“And whether you're a river or vapor, your nature(本性) never changes.”

Hearing this, the little stream went into the open arms of the breeze. It carried her to the next stage(阶段) of her life.

1What did the stream think when she reached a desert?

    A. She thought she couldn't cross the desert.

    B. She believed she could cross the desert.

    C. She thought she knew well about the desert.

    D. She started to worry about herself.

2What does the underlined word “It” refer to?

    A. The desert.   B. The nature.

    C. The breeze.   D. The stream.

3What did the stream do in the end?

    A. It crossed the desert.

    B. It stopped trying.

    C. It failed to get to the ocean.

    D. It died.

4What is the main idea of the story?

    A. The road to success is not always easy.

    B. We should do the right thing whatever others say.

    C. Our lives can be as difficult as the little stream's.

    D. To succeed, we should change the way we used to be.
