B: Yeah, I’m going to my uncle’s home near Xinglong lake. It’s his birthday today, and many of our 1will go there.

A: Great. But why are you taking the subway? You said Subway Line 1 was always 2. There is no place for people to stand sometimes.

B: Well, taking the subway to his home is 3and fast. I won’t trouble to change the buses and walk for a long time.

A: I see. By the way, you were reading a book, right?

B: Yes. I didn’t like reading on the subway. But I have got used to 4my time on something meaningful when I’m on the underground. Have you heard of “The Book on the Underground Movement”?

A: Pardon? Can you tell me some information about it?

B: It all started from the Harry Potter star Emma. You know, she left 100 books on the underground in London. She did so in order to 5people to read.

A: Sounds like a great idea.

B: Then Chinese stars like Huang Xiaoming and Wu Lei, are placing books on underground subway system. Many people support this movement while others don’t.

A: Well. I think it’s good for the people who take part. People usually focus their eyes on phones on the subway, looking 6information quickly and leaving no useful messages in their heads. This movement, however, enables people to stop their busy lives and drop their phones to enjoy reading time.

B: I can’t agree more. But some people say copying the activity from London is a bad idea and letting the stars get involved(参与) could make it even 7. Maybe people will join the activity just to find hidden books from the stars they like, but not for the books 8. So they may talk about the stars but put the books aside.

A: Em...That’s true. And I don’t think people are 9to take away those books, right?

B: Sure...They are for the public. Oh, I will get off at the next stop.

A: Haha. You remind me that passengers should try not to take more stops than they need, especially when reading or chatting on the subway.

B: You seem to have a 10. See you!

A: See you! Wish you have a good day!

It is the second-brightest object in our night sky after the moon. It is one of man’s greatest scientific achievements. It is the International Space Station (ISS) (国际空间站) that travels around the earth.

November 20th, 2018 marks the 20th birthday of ISS. In 1998, the first piece of the station was sent into space. Since then, 230 people from 18 countries have visited it. Five space agencies (航天局)—those of the United States, Russia, Canada, Europe and Japan—worked together to build it. Weighing about 450 tons, it has many different parts in it, including labs and solar panels. Generally, the ISS holds three to six people at one time. Astronauts living there work on different science projects. The ISS has over 1,500 such projects, according to NASA.

But the station is getting old. In 2011, Russia announced that the ISS would be stopped working in 2020 in order to prevent it from becoming dangerous “space junk”. But the US later said they would repair it to make its service life longer to 2025, International Business Times reported.

The ISS costs $3-4 billion (21-28 billion yuan) each year. Many have argued that this money could be better spent improving conditions on the Earth.

Under the pressure of the public, last February, US President Donald Trump announced plans to end support for the ISS by 2025. The US will use its money for other projects, like next-generation rockets and deep-space missions, the Washington Post reported.

What will happen to the ISS after 2025 is unknown. Former astronaut Jeffrey Hoffman told NBC News, “Other ISS partners may continue scientific studies on it. Private companies might turn it into a space hotel.”

1After being repaired, the ISS will serve for another ________ years according to the US.

B.It has received 18 people from different countries.

C.It was built by five countries including an Asian one.

D.It has less than 1, 500 projects for astronauts to work on.

A.explain how much it is to keep the ISS running

B.explain why America made the following plans

C.show that it was not necessary to build the ISS

D.show that most people were against building the ISS

4We can infer from this passage that ________.
