So I had studied for about two hours the night before. After reviewing it for some time, I had started to understand it, so then I closed the book and _________. However, it was not until midnight that I fell asleep. The next day, when I got the test, I tried my best to work out the hard problems, but the numbers I came up with were strange. I sat back on my chair and looked for any possible answers, but I could not remember anything or think correctly. I started thinking about my dad coming home from work to find that I failed the test.

“How could you have failed the test? I am sure that nobody else in the whole class got as bad a grade as you did!”

Naturally I didn’t want that to happen. My dad was also really busy at work at present, so I was afraid that this may make him mad. When feeling hopeless, I noticed that my table partner was writing fast on his test. I was attracted to look over at his test, but then the many bad results I had heard about cheating (作弊) came into my mind. I know that if I started cheating now, it would be hard to give up that habit during high school. In the end, I decided not to copy his answers, and got a B on that test. Even though my dad gave me a hard time about it, it would have been a lot worse if he found out that I had given in and cheated.

A.got a good grade at last B.didn’t cheat at last C.didn’t work hard that night

  • 25、Life is full of beautiful moments. All you have to do is to open your eyes and your heart to see them.

The other day, a local primary school was just over, and I found myself behind a school bus as I was driving home. The bus stopped by a house sitting on top of a hill. A little girl, no more than 7 years old, got off the bus and started running quickly toward the house. The smile on her face was quite sweet. I looked up the hill to see where she was going. Her dad was waiting for her. As she got closer, her dad smiled and greeted her with a hug.

My eyes watered a bit as I watched this scene. I remembered all the times when my own children ran into my arms with smiling faces. Every single hug from them was a treasure of joy.

Suddenly, my memory was interrupted when I heard the car’s horn (喇叭) behind me. I saw the school bus quickly pulling away, and started to follow it again. She was so excited about it for the first two days that she couldn’t listen to the teachers carefully. But soon she and her classmates got used to this new classroom arrangement (安排). “Now our class is quieter,” said Wu. “What’s more, we can come up with our own ideas and learn more through discussion. It’s a better way to study.”

Li Yu liked it, too. “Group members first discuss,” he said, “and then present to the whole class. It makes us believe in ourselves.” This was part of a reform (改革) at Li’s school.
