二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   Time, wars and natural disasters have a bad effect on the artistic and cultural objects in the world. More than 1,000 years ago, a fire destroyed the Library of Alexandria in Egypt. In 1755, an earthquake destroyed Ribeira Palace in Lisbon, Portugal, along with artworks inside. In modern times, the Taliban destroyed the huge Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan.

As we all know, museums play an important part in our daily lives. They keep evidence of culture and history and exhibit great works. A major goal of most museums in the world is to make sure that important historical objects do not disappear forever. The Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy, holds 1,250 pieces of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures. These objects have inspired artists and historians for many years. So the museum is working to make a complete and permanent(永久的) record of the artworks.

The project is an effort of both the museum and the scientists from Indiana University in the United States. The team is using technology to create digital copies(数字复制品) of the Uffizi’s ancient sculptures.

The process is called photogrammetry. At one time, this process was slow and expensive. But not anymore, said Professor Robert Frischer. He said photogrammetry is now much faster and cheaper. Now they can gather 3-D data(数据) on a life-size sculpture in half an hour and they can process the data just in a couple of hours.

The images allow the viewer to examine the sculpture from all sides. And when the viewer zooms in(用变焦距镜头放大), the image becomes clearer. The Uffizi hopes to have the collection completed and available on the Internet by 2020.

1What can we learn about some artworks?

    A. They have been badly damaged.

    B. They were destroyed by accident.

    C. They were not protected by humans.

    D. Most of them are kept in Italy now.

2Why do the Uffizi Gallery and Indiana University work together?

    A. To build the largest museum.

    B. To create long-lasting artworks.

    C. To introduce some ancient sculptures.

    D. To inspire more artists and historians.

3What can we learn about photogrammetry?

    A. It is still expensive.

    B. It is a time-saving step now.

    C. It does great harm to the artworks.

    D. It was invented by Robert Frischer.

4What can we learn about the images?

    A. It's impossible to make them larger.

    B. They will take the place of  real sculptures.

    C. People can enjoy them online in the future.

    D. They can only show the front of the sculpture.

  • 27、Do you find it difficult to put down your mobile phone?

If yes, you’re not alone. These days, many people suffer from the stress of FOMO (fear of missing out). They reach for their mobile phones when they wake up in the morning, and for the rest of the day, they constantly scroll down (向下滚动) the timelines of their social media apps to get the latest updates.

Despite the convenience smartphones bring, many people struggle with their digital habits.

As Sameer Samat, US tech Company Google’s vice president of product management, said in his speech at the 2018 Google I/O developer conference on May 8, 70 percent of people don’t want to spend so much time on their phones.

This is why during the conference Google introduced an app called Dashboard for the new version (版本) of its Android operating system. This new app includes well-being functions that aim to help users manage the time they spend on their digital devices.

It all starts with a bird’s-eye view. Dashboard allows users to look at all the details of their phone habits. For example, a user can see how many times they’ve unlocked their phone and how many times they’ve checked their social media apps, as well as how much time they spend on each app every day.

Once the users see this information, they’ll be able to make some changes. With the App Timer function, users can set a time limit for how long they can use each app for every day. After they’ve hit the limit, they won’t be able to launch the app until the next day.

But even if users become more mindful of their usage, they’re still likely to be drawn in by notifications (通知). This is where the Shush feature comes in. It automatically (自动地) silences incoming calls and notifications when a user puts their phone face down.

If people truly want to make full use of their free time instead of losing hours using their smart phones, these new functions are just one way of doing that.

After all, who needs to use an app to stop you from using other apps when the easiest answer would be just to use your willpower?

【1】Who are the target users of Dashboard?

A.People who know little about smartphones.

B.People who have trouble dealing with stress.

C.People who are slow at searching for things online.

D.People who wish to manage the time they spend on their smartphone.

    【2】What can Dashboard do?

A.Lock the phone at a certain time.

B.Limit some apps to certain users.

C.Limit the time certain apps can be used.

    D.Silence app notifications at night.

【3】The underlined word “mindful” in Paragraph 8 is closest in meaning to ______.

    A.serious.

    B.careful.

    C.prepared.

    D.creative.

【4】What does the author think of Dashboard?

    A.It’s not very useful.

    B.It’s perfectly designed.

    C.It should include more functions.

D.It may be helpful to some people.

  • 28、France is getting tough with food waste with great determination.A new law has been passed in the country that will ban grocery stores over 4, 305 square feet from throwing away unsold food.If it's still safe to eat, the food must be donated to charity; if not, it goes to farmers for use as animal feed or compost(肥料).

Supermarkets will no longer be allowed to destroy unsold food intentionally in order to prevent people from eating it.There are many people who search for food in the garbage cans behind stores, wanting to take advantage of the perfectly edible(可食用)food that gets thrown away on a daily basis; and yet some stores try to stop this, either by locking the garbage cans or pouring bleach(漂白剂)into them, a practice that Guillaume Garot, the former French food minister who proposed the new bill, describes as“scandalous.”

Food waste is a global problem, with an estimated 24 percent of calories produced for human consumption never getting eaten. Most of this waste happens at the final consumption stage. It is reported that“the average French person throws out 20 to 30 kilograms of food a year—7kg of which is still in its wrapping.”American shoppers throw away about one-fifth of everything they buy at the grocery store, according to a fascinating new documentary called“Just Eat It”.

The supermarkets aren’t happy about the new law because their food waste represents only 5 to 11 percent of the 7.1 million tons of food wasted annually in France.By contrast, restaurants waste 15 percent and consumers 67 percent.“The law is wrong in both target and intention, ”argues Jacques Creyssel, head of the distribution organization for big supermarkets.“Big stores are already important food donors.”

Despite this, France’s new law is a move in the right direction.Wasting food absolutely needs to become a socially immoral thing to do—much like throwing garbage on the ground. If law is what’s needed to get people thinking about conservation and edibility, then it's not a bad thing.

【1】How should supermarkets handle unsold food by the new law?

    A.They should leave it alone.

    B.They should give it away.

C.They should sell it at lower prices.

D.They should drop it into garbage cans.

【2】What does the underlined word“scandalous”in Paragraph 2 mean?

    A.Inconvenient.

    B.Challenging.

    C.Impractical.

    D.Unacceptable.

【3】What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?

    A.The seriousness of food waste.

    B.The reasons for food waste.

    C.The consequences of food waste.

    D.The solution to food waste.

【4】What do the supermarkets think of the new law?

    A.It is strict.

    B.It is ineffective.

    C.It is unfair.

    D.It is well-intentioned.

  • 29、As we have seen, the focus of medical care in our society has been shifting from curing disease to preventing disease — especially in terms of changing our many unhealthy behaviors, such as poor eating habits, smoking, and failure to exercise. The line of thought involved in this shift can be pursued further. Imagine a person who is about the right weight, but does not eat very nutritious foods, who feels OK but exercises only occasionally, and who has no chest pains or abnormal blood counts, but sleeps a lot and often feels tired. This person is not ill. He may not even be at risk for any particular disease. But we can imagine that this person could be a lot healthier.

The field of medicine has not traditionally distinguished between someone who is merely “not ill” and someone who is in excellent health and pays attention to the body’s special needs. Both types have simply been called “well”. In recent years, however, some health specialists have begun to apply the terms “well” and “wellness” only to those who are actively attempting to maintain and improve their health. People who are well are concerned with nutrition and exercise, and they make a point of monitoring their body’s condition. Most importantly, perhaps, people who are well take active responsibility for all matters related to their health. Even people who have a physical disease or handicap (缺陷) may be “well”. In this new sense, if they make an effort to maintain the best possible health, they can in the face of their physical limitations. “Wellness” may perhaps best be viewed not as a state that people can achieve, but as an ideal that people can struggle for. People who are well are likely to be better able to resist disease and to fight disease when it strikes. And by focusing attention on healthy ways of living, the concept of wellness can have a beneficial influence on the ways in which people face the challenges of daily life.

【1】Today’s medical care is placing more stress on ________.

A.keeping people in a healthy physical condition

    B.monitoring patients’ body functions

    C.removing people’s bad living habits

    D.ensuring people’s psychological well-being

【2】According to the passage, the true meaning of the underlined word “wellness” is for people ________.

A.to best satisfy their body’s special needs

B.to strive to maintain the best possible health

C.to meet the strictest standards of bodily health

D.to keep a proper balance between work and leisure

【3】According to what the author advocates (主张), which of the following groups of people would be considered healthy?

A.People who have strong muscles as well as slim figures.

B.People who are not presently experiencing any symptoms of disease.

C.People who try to be as healthy as possible, regardless of their limitations.

D.People who can recover from illness even without seeking medical care.

五、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 32、阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

The term “helicopter(直升机) parents” is a description of parents who are hovering(盘旋) over their children in a state of extreme concern. They always show up to solve their children’s problems, protect them from real or imagined harm, resolve stressful situations, offer advice and get them out of trouble, even if they behave wrongly. Although out of love and concern, it can have harmful effects on their children’s emotional development and future independence.

Children learn through their mistakes. But if you intervene(干涉,介入) at first sign of struggle and finish your child’s homework, he’ll miss out on valuable learning opportunities.

You’re sending him the message that he needs to be perfect and failure is not an option; otherwise you wouldn’t always take over from him.

By constantly rescuing your child from stressful situations, you’re sending him a message that you don’t believe he’s able to take care of himself. Children develop self-esteem(自尊) by learning how to complete challenges on their own. If you are always intervening, he will miss this vital stage in his growth. As a result, your child may lack the confidence necessary to do well in school, pursuing hobbies and interests, and developing friendships.

If you’re always taking care of everything for your child, it’ll be more difficult for him to become independent. As an adult, he might find it hard to take care of himself, because he has never developed coping skills to deal with life’s challenges. He might suffer from irrational(不理智的) fears, anxiety and depression, which could lead him to drop out of college or frequently change jobs, according to Dr Michele Borba. Instead of developing healthy relationships, he might seek a partner who will take care of or control him, as his parents did.

You can help your child become more independent by allowing him to complete tasks and challenges on his own without your intervention. Even if he fails at first, don’t interfere(干涉,干预) — encourage him to start again. Show that you have faith in his abilities to succeed without your help. Allow him to learn natural consequences(后果). Even small things can help him become more independent— making his own bed, preparing his own lunch, shopping for his own clothes and doing homework without your help.
