Choose lean meat. Fill your plate with salad and green vegetables.

  • 27、   “Sam’s Journey” is the main attraction of an exhibition to be staged at Bugis+ shopping mall. The show, organized by five Singaporean college students, will start the yearly Anti-Drug Abuse Campaign of this year. Besides the main attraction, there are many kinds of anti-drug games for people to play.

“Sam’s Journey” takes visitors through a maze of activities and information that lets them experience how “Sam’s” life was destroyed by drug abuse.

The maze starts with how“Sam”first started using drugs and became heavily dependent on them. In the middle of the maze, visitors get to wear a specially-designed pair of glasses trying to copy what it is like to be under the influence of drugs. Then visitors go through a dark room with lights flashing that give them an experience similar to the side effects of using drugs.

“Sam’s”life goes further downhill once police officers catch him. Visitors get to experience what it is like in prison as one of the maze checkpoints is a prison cell (a small room built for prisoners).

“We did not want to feed information through experts. We wanted people to walk through this maze to learn about drug abuse and its bad influences,”said Mr Jenson Seah, one of the five Singaporean students.

As the student organizers hope visitors will learn valuable lessons from the show, they too realize that putting the event together was an enriching experience.

“By working with officers from the National Council Against Drug Abuse, I learned a lot about drug abuse and it stretched beyond my degree course learning experience,”said Mr Seah.

The show, which will be given from June 21-22, is just the first of a series of events for the yearly Anti-Drug Abuse Campaign. The two-month-long campaign will include an online photography competition and an Anti-Drug School Corner Competition.

【1】The students organized the show to _____.

    B.win an important competition

C.help people stay away from drugs

D.show the harmful effects of using medicines wrongly

    A.It will last two days.

B.It is to be held in a college.

    C.It receives no official support.

D.It includes a series of events.

    【3】Jenson Seah believed that _____.

B.it was better to let experts explain the harmful effects of drugs

C.the students’ teamwork was the key to the show’s success

D.the courses offered at the show would help visitors a lot

【4】The author writes this text mainly to _____.

  • 28、Listening to music is considered a good thing for adults. Indeed it is. Scientific studies have proved it. Music has so many good effects on our body, mind and mood that this world will certainly not be a good place without music. Then, is music good for children? Some parents think so and let their children learn or listen to music. But some parents don't know the importance of music to children. Here are some reasons why music is important to children.

First, music is good for children’s intelligence. Studies have proved that children who learn music are likely to have higher intelligence than those who have no interest in or dislike music. This is because the brain gets stimulated (刺激) by the rhythm and tone of music.

Music also has soothing (抚慰的) effect on children and helps remove their stress. Today’s children are under a lot of stress from schoolwork. Being under too much stress impairs children’s health. Luckily, listening to music can help them feel better.

Music can improve children’s moods. Some children are sad by nature. They seem to be lost in their own thoughts and don’t take interest in their surroundings. In such cases,a method known as “music therapy” comes to their rescue. It changes their moods and places a new kind of spirit in them.

Music is also a universal language that children ought to learn. Our world has become a global village. People are getting more and more interested in other cultures and countries. Music can help them in understanding foreign cultures.

Now we can say that music is very important not only to adults but also to children. So children should be encouraged to learn music or listen to music.

  • 29、Millions of Americans sit behind a computer screen, chained to their desk all day because the vast majority of stable, high-paying professions(职业) are “office jobs”. However, having a successful career does not require you to sit behind a desk and plug away at a computer all day.

In fact, there are a large number of non-desk jobs in a variety of industries that are growing and offering workers a direct path to the middle class, according to a new analysis of labor market information from CareerBuilder. While most of the highest-paying non-desk jobs are medical professions that require a doctoral or professional degree, there are 170 non-desk professions that pay $15 per hour or more, do not require a bachelor’s degree(学士学位) for a typical entry-level position, and have seen at least 6 percent job growth over the last four years.

“The US workforce has gradually changed to office-based work because of the rise of the professional service economy and productivity gains associated with information technology,” Rosemary Haefner, Vice President of Human Resources Officer at CareerBuilder, said in a statement. “But some of the healthiest areas of job growth year after year are in middle-skill professions that don’t require workers to sit in front of computer monitors and phones for 40 hours a week.”

Here are the top-paying jobs that don’t require you to work at a desk in various kinds — none of which require a four-year college degree — and their hourly salary(工资) and growth rate since 2010: professional assistants(助理) : $26.57, 14 percent; elevator repairers: $37.81, 6 percent; mechanical engineering technicians: $25.19, 10 percent; and electromechanical(电动机械的) technicians: $24.68, 8 percent.

While they tend to pay less than traditional office jobs, non-desk professions provide a variety of benefits. Haefner points to a 2014 CareerBuilder survey that discovered workers who don’t work at a desk all day are less likely to complain about their work environment and less likely to report being overweight.

【1】What does the underlined phrase “plug away” in the first paragraph probably mean?

    A.Turn off a switch.

    B.Look for a job.

    C.Keep on working

    D.Give up working

【2】What conclusion can we draw from the second paragraph?

A.A non-desk job may provide you with a middle-class life.

B.The last four years has seen an increase in desk jobs.

C.The college degree is the ticket to a position.

D.A non-desk job cannot offer you a secure life.

【3】What is the key reason for the US workforce to change to office-based work?

    A.High salary.

    B.Medicine.

    C.Information technology.

    D.Service industries.

【4】Which job has grown the fastest since 2010?

    A.Elevator repairers.
