二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   Consider the tomato: easy to grow, healthy to eat, tasty in just about any dish and pleasant to look at. And come late summer, in steady supply. Though you can find it during the coldest winter months,

August is the tomato's season to shine. Farmers' markets and stores are bursting with less known but tastier varieties, including purple cherries and big heirlooms.

"Heirlooms ripened on the vine() are the tastiest of all tomatoes," says Amy Goldman Fowler, author of The Heirloom Tomato. "I think their beauty is more than skin-deep." Heirloom seeds have been around for at least 50 years, often passed down from generation to generation. You may hear cherry or heirloom used to describe a tomato at hand, but there are many different kinds of tomatoes, and growers have fun giving fancy names to varieties: Mortgage Lifters, Beefsteaks, Oxhearts, Early Girls.

And all of them come with health benefits. Tomatoes are a good source of the antioxidant lycopene (抗氧化番茄红素), which is thought to help lower a person's risk for heart problems and cancer. Tomatoes also contain healthy vitamins A and C. For the best fruit, choose tomatoes with shiny, firm skin and a little give, and store them at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Keep them out of the fridge, since cold temperatures can affect the original taste.

"They satisfy something more than just taste," says Fowler. "Tomatoes feed your soul."

1In which season do tomatoes sell best?

    A. Spring. B. Summer.

    C. Autumn. D. Winter.

2What can you learn from the passage?

    A. Tomatoes are the tastiest vegetables.

    B. Direct sunlight helps to store tomatoes.

    C. Tomatoes go bad more quickly in the fridge.

    D. Heirlooms are tastier than the other tomatoes.

    3Why do tomatoes benefit people?

    A. They can produce most antioxidant lycopene. B. They may prevent some diseases.

    C. They can be used as medicine. D. They may make people's skin shiny.

4What does Amy Goldman Fowler think of tomatoes?

    A. They will survive in cold winter months. B. They are less known than other foods.

    C. They taste best but look ugly. D. They also make us pleasant.

  • 27、   Ida Nelson was relaxing in her sister's bathroom when she heard the noise of a small airplane circling the nearby airport.

It was 11:30 at night in the Alaskan village of Igiugig, population 70,and, as she told the New York Times, “Any time a plane flies over that late, you know something is wrong.”

Nelson and her sister rushed out of the bathroom, ran to the window, and saw the problem: The airport's runway lights were out.

Nelson threw on some clothes, jumped into her SUV, and drove it to the airport, where she found a local pilot trying to tum on the lights with his hands.

“Normally, if you push the button 10 or 15 times, the lights will just light up,” Nelson told the New York Times. Not this time. Meanwhile, she and the pilot learned that the small airplane was a medevac there to transport a seriously ill local girl to the nearest hospital, 280 miles away in Anchorage.

Nelson had a plan. Driving her SUV to the end of the runway, she shone her headlights on the road for the plane to follow. Great idea, but it wasn't enough. More light was needed, so a neighbor called nearly every home in the village—32 of them.

Within 20 minutes, 20 vehicles arrived at the airport, many of the drivers still in pajamas. Following directions from the medevac pilot, the cars lined up on one side of the runway.

The medevac made its final approach and, guided by the headlights, landed safely. The young patient was loaded onto the plane, and it immediately took off again. Her illness was never publicly disclosed, but she has since been released from the hospital.

In a world filled with uncertainty, what happened in the little community was a big deal. Not so much for Nelson. As she told CNN, in Igiugig, coming together “is kind of a normal deal.”

【1】What can we learn from the passage?

A.Ida Nelson was asleep when hearing the circling plane.

B.The airport's lights were out due to power failure.

    B.how the problem was solved

    C.why more light was needed

    D.how many villagers they needed

【3】What is the story intended to tell us?

    A.Many hands make light work.

B.Failure is the mother of success.

    C.Challenges can turn into opportunities.

D.A man's wisdom is the source of happiness.

【4】Which of the following would be the best title of the passage?

    A.Accidents will happen

    B.It took a whole village

    C.Nelson, a great girl

    D.Join a great team

  • 28、Numerous studies, including a 2019 review in the journal Annual Research & Review in Biology, have found that both performing and listening to music can have a significant impact on the immune system.

“Certainly music has an impact on the brain, and anxiety and stress impact the immune system,” said Andrew Levin, a neurologist at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Levin, an amateur trumpet player who performs with several local ensembles, said he's not an expert in the ways music interacts with the brain. But it works for him. "Music is a part of my stress release paradigm,“ he said. "We know that music can affect brain states, so I don't believe it is much of a stretch to say that music can indirectly affect our physiology, and there is research that supports this notion. ”

According to a 2013 review in the journal Brain Behavior and Immunity, the emotional and psychological effects of listening to music have direct impacts on biomarkers and hormone levels. There is also general consensus among researchers that listening to music reduces cortisol (皮质醇)levels.

Does the type of music matter? It does. Prior associations and relationships with different types of music affect how your body responds. In general, research indicates that “relaxing music” (i. e. slower pace, peaceful music) is better for calming tense nerves, decreasing blood pressure and breath and settling the heart rate.

Singing a different tune? Potvin, a professor of music therapy at Duquesne University, is skeptical of some of the research linking music with the immune system, questioning whether it's healthy to use music or any other tool to resist anxiety. "The research is superficial, though I don't mean that in a negative way,“ he said. "I think the information we have is valuable, but we need to go deeper. ”

【1】What does the underlined word "it" in paragraph 2 refer to?

    A.Music.

    B.Brain.

    C.Immune system.

    D.The research.

【2】What do we know about relaxing music according to the text?

    A.It has fast rhythm.

B.It contributes to a stable heart rate.

C.It does no good to calm tense nerves.

D.It can increase blood pressure and breath.

【3】What do we learn from the last paragraph?

A.Potvin has some prejudice about the research.

B.Potvin thinks further study about it is necessary.

C.Potvin questions whether music effectively resists anxiety.

D.Potvin is convinced of the impact of music on the immune system.

【4】What might be the best title of the text?

    A.What's the function of music?

    B.Does music benefit your brain?

C.How to promote your immune system?

D.Can music boost your immune system?

  • 29、   Years ago, I lived in a building in a large city. 1 There was a woman living there, and I had never met her, yet I could see she sat by her window each afternoon, sewing or reading.
