二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   British singer-song writer James Blunt shot to fame in 2005 with his single You're Beautiful and album(专辑) Back To Bedlam, and since then he remained the top of the UK singles chart.

Before James Blunt became a musician, he served in the army to fight for Queen and country. He spent four and a half years there, with six months in Kosovo as part of the peacekeeping force. Before leaving the army, Blunt had decided to achieve his dream of becoming a musician. In 2003, he was discovered by music producer Linda Perry who signed him to her Custard label. However the road to success never runs smoothly. It seemed that he would become another struggling singer trying to live from hand to mouth (勉强维持生计) when his first two singles failed to make an impact on the British charts. But everything changed when his third single You're Beautiful made it all the way to No.1 on the UK singles charts, and remained there for five weeks. The album Back to Bedlam soon followed and quickly became one of the biggest selling records of the year, remaining then continual weeks at No.1. Since then, he has sold more than three million records, making him the first British artist to top the American singles charts in nearly a decade.

Blunt, 34, a throwback (返祖者) to the 1970s softrock golden age, has been quoted  by Western media as saying that he will never get used to people screaming at him in the street.

His success proves a lasting theory: You spend years chasing the right song. Then, if you're lucky, and if the song really takes off, you spend the rest of your life trying to escape it, or learning to live with it, a few years removed from You're Beautiful, he can still fill stages worldwide with fans who stay until the end.

1What do we learn from the passage?

A.Blunt was discovered by Linda Perry before joining the army.

B.Blunt has already become famous before joining the army.

C.Blunt spent five years in the army altogether.

D.Blunt had the dream of becoming a musician before leaving the army.

2Which of the following can describe James Blunt's life as a musician before he sang the  song You're Beautiful ?

    A.Difficult B.Happy

    C.Boring D.Smooth

3We can infer from the last paragraph that_________.

A.Blunt is well-known in the world for his talent.

B.Blunt's fame as a musician came easily.

C.Blunt wasn't lucky enough to win his fans' support.

D.Blunt has to face the inconvenience that his fame has caused.

4What is the passage mainly about?

    A.The song You're Beautiful

B.The latest album of James Blunt

C.The success of James Blunt as a musician

D.The whole life of James Blunt

  • 27、   A day in the life of 18-year-old David Lanster is full of teenage activities: school, baseball practice, homework. And then he starts cooking. “Some nights I’m up until 1 a.m. making pies, or even later if we’re cooking beef,” said the student at Ransom Everglades High School in Florida, US.

For the past year, Lanster and Kelly Moran, his classmate, have been hosting fancy dinner parties at Lanster’s parents’ home. Their meals have 17 courses and are all made by them. Their guests used to give them gifts to thank them, until the pair decided to do something nice for charity. “We got some really great Miami Heat tickets, a nice watch, and many kitchen machines,” Lanster said. “But we wanted to make this something positive for people rather than us.”

Lanster and Moran focused on Common Threads, a charity(慈善机构) that helps to teach kids in poor neighborhood to cook and make healthy eating choices. The young cooks ask their guests to give however much they want as payment for their meals. It all goes to Common Threads because Lanster’s parents cover their food costs. After their last 12-person event, Lanster and Moran gave $1,600 to the charity. Now, they’re taking their show out of the kitchen and on the road. Lanster and Moran have started to organize private dinner parties in a similar way: the host pays for the ingredients(食材), and the guests make a donation (捐赠) to a charity.

Outside the kitchen, the two are busy preparing their college applications. Neither is sure what they will do in the future, but they’ve promised their parents that they’ll leave cooking alone until they finish high school.

【1】Why does Lanster and Moran cook now?

    A.To get gifts from guests.

    B.To raise money for charity.

    C.To become cooks.

    D.To make healthier eating choices.

【2】What can we infer about Lanster and Moran?

A.They will give up cooking forever.

B.They are sure about their future jobs.

C.Their parents support cooking as a job.

D.They will stop cooking for college application.

【3】How can we best describe Lanster and Moran?

    A.Selfish and reliable.

    B.Creative and helpful.

    C.Confident and careful.

    D.Outgoing and patient.

【4】What can be a suitable title for the text?

    A.A Great Cook

    B.Eat as you Wish

    C.Helping by Cooking

    D.Cooking for School Fees

  • 28、Making Short Videos

“A picture is worth a thousand words or so”, they say. Well, motion (运动) pictures can contain even more memories. 【1】Here are some apps you can use to make your own short videos.

    Qupeiyin.cn

Reciting lines from movies is an effective and classic way to learn English. So what if you could dub(配音) recordings accompanied by movie clips(剪辑) and then share them with friends? 【2】You name it. By contributing your voice, you can either mimic(模仿) the original soundtrack or create something completely new of your own.

    Shorts

【3】With the help of the Shorts app, you can make pictures in your album into a slide show. Choose from any of the off-the-shelf themes---“holiday”, “travel”, “friendship” and “party” for example—each matched with its own theme music and slide background. But if you’re not satisfied with the combinations, feel free to do a little change by adding text to the pictures or replacing the music with something in your own playlist.

    Viva Video

Video making and editing once seemed awfully hard.【4】But this app will ease you into the field with straight-forward functions and clear direction to help you “create your own video story”. Apart from filter, stickers and text, the coolest part of this app is that you can write the narratives yourself and add your own voice to the video.【5】Viva Video requires a relatively powerful phone to run smoothly.

A.But here is a little reminder.

B.This app has movies, cartoons, lectures, TV series.

C.These apps have a variety of identifications (识别).

D.That’s why short videos are becoming popular.

E.Videos and pictures aren’t only for separate purposes.

F.Newbies (网络新手) and amateurs didn’t dare to even give it a try.

G.Video making and editing is what Apple fans want to try.

  • 29、In 1978, I was 18 and was working as a nurse in a small town about 270 km away from Sydney, Australia. I was looking forward to having five fays off from duty. Unfortunately, the only one train a day back to my home in Sydney had already left. So I thought I’d hitch a ride (搭便车).

I waited by the side of the highway for three hours but no one stopped for me. Finally, a man walked over and introduced himself as Gordon. He said that although he couldn’t give me a lift, I should come back to his house for lunch. He noticed me standing for hours in the November heat and thought I must be hungry. After lunch, he helped me find a lift home.

Twenty-five years later, in 2003, while I was driving to a nearby town one day, I saw an elderly man standing in the glaring heat, trying to hitch a ride. I thought it was another chance to repay someone for the favour I’d been given decades earlier. I pulled over and picked him up. I made him comfortable on the back seat and offered him some water.

After a few moments of small talk, the man said to me, “You haven’t changed a bit, even your red hair is still the same.” I couldn’t remember where I’d met him. He then told me he was the man who had given me lunch and helped me find a lift all those years ago. It was Gordon.

四、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 31、Directions: Complete the following passage by using the words in the box. Each word can be used only once. Note that there is one word more than you need.

The view that the spirit of adventure no longer has any scope for its enterprise seems, at first glance, depressingly true. The highest mountains have been scaled; the deepest seas plumbed. Maps today no longer contain huge blanks marked "Unknown Territory", nor do they make random guesses at the shapes of 1 land-masses. All major journeys of exploration to 2 the true shape and nature of the globe have been made in the past. It was left to us to fill in the details with 3 which once would have been considered impossible. The gaps have been 4. What next?

The obvious answer, of course, is that man is now looking upwards into space. Discoveries are being made at such a tremendous rate that even authors of science-fiction are finding it difficult to keep up with them and have to tax their imagination to invent bigger and better space-craft. Satellites sending signals as they swing round our globe have become 5.

Astronauts have successfully landed on the moon and its entire surface has been photographed. The information that satellites may provide fueling stations for manned rockets no longer strikes us as preposterous. If thirty years ago, a scientist has urged that we send messages into outer space in the hope of receiving an answer, he would have been regarded as either irresponsible or mad. Now, anything seems 6.

From dreams like these, we return to earth with a bump. Trips into space are all very well, but they are not for us; we must 7 ourselves with our own, much-traveled world. The earth itself is the training-ground for adventurous spirits, for "adventure" need not mean the seeking out of something new. A person can be called adventurous when he finds out something for himself, and it does not matter how many times the discovery has been made before. No one would say that men who set out now to cross the forbidding Antarctic are less enterprising than their predecessors who tried to do the same thing. The little boy who climbs the small hill that 8 his town, or even he who tries to climbs and fails, has precisely the same spirit that led Hillary to climb Everest. For the bold spirit and inquiring mind, there are inexhaustible possibilities. So long as there are people willing to 9 places that are well-known, there will be those who will, one day, set foot on remote and 10 shores.
