26、When do you usually do when you have some free time? Do you take part in any form of hobby? If your answer is no, then you should think twice. 【1】
Here is a common problem that many older people have. They have spent such a great deal of time raising their family that once their children are grown and leave home, they all of a sudden start to experience their age. Quite often, it is not their age that is the concern. 【2】
When you put in too much time not doing anything, this can affect your brain. This is just where the expression “If you don't use it, you lose it" definitely is the truth. Your mind needs working out much like any other muscle in your body. This is why getting a hobby matters. 【3】
【4】 Even young children can profit from taking a new hobby. For retired people, enjoying a hobby which they can take pleasure in with their grandchildren will help keep them active and feeling young at heart.
Several hobbies that are terrific for both your mind and your body include yoga, biking, swimming and golf. If you aren't fond of sports, even taking a walk regularly is a wonderful way to keep active. 【5】 Additional hobbies include any kind of craft like sewing, knitting, wood working, gardening etc.
As you can see above, you can get pretty much from taking a hobby. With so many choices waiting for you, what are you waiting for? Begin your journey right away!
A.It helps you to appreciate fresh scenery and the colors green and blue help make you more creative.
B.Enjoying a hobby is also a perfect way to improve creative thinking at any age.
C.Young children may have strange concerns that have nothing to do with the elderly.
D.It offers you with something to do and is a perfect way to meet new people.
E.It is the fact that they are unexpectedly entrusted (交付) more time on their hand.
F.Experiencing some type of interest or hobby might be the ideal way to develop your brain and improve your creative thinking.
G.Different people have different hobbies.
27、 Scientists have found an unexpected use for virtual reality headsets (耳机). The devices (装置), widely used by computer gamers, show pictures that can be used to test the navigational (导航的) skills of people, who were thought to be at risk of dementia (痴呆). Those who do worse in the tests will be the ones more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease later in life, scientists now believe.
The discovery that the loss of navigational skills was associated with Alzheimer’s was made several years ago by Dennis Chan and his colleagues based at several centers in the UK. These studies used computers to test navigational tasks. But now scientists plan to take their tests to a new level with the use of the virtual reality headsets in which wearers are placed in man-made environments through which they must navigate.
Around 300 people, aged between 40 and 60, will be arranged to participate in the study. Some will have a gene that puts them at risk of the condition or will come from a family with a history of Alzheimer’s. Not all will certainly be affected by the disease, however. Chan’s project aims to find out who will. Wearing the headsets, participants will be asked to navigate their way through a series of different environments and then remember the details.
Researchers recently pointed out the significance of a tiny area of the brain known as the entorhinal cortex (an important memory center in the brain ). It acts as a center in a widespread brain network that controls navigation. This now appears to be the first part of the brain that seems to be easily harmed by Alzheimer’s.
The goal of the work is to help people as they develop the disease. “So far, drug trials for Alzheimer’s have been applied when people have already got dementia, by which time considerable damage to the brain has already occurred,” Chan told the Obsenver. “If we can entorhinal cortex, then this would have the potential to prevent the dementia.”
【1】What does the unexpected use of VR headsets mentioned in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. Making games mor interesting for computer gamers.
B. Testing ones potential to develop dementia.
C. Helping people suffering Alzheimer’s recover.
D. Reducing the risk of having dementia.
【2】What are the participants required to do in the study?
A. Know unfamiliar environments by using tablet computers.
B. Identify directions in some man-made environments.
C. Play computer games by using navigational skills.
D. Create special environments by using navigational skills.
【3】What’s implied (暗示) about the entorhinal cortex in the brain?
A. Its functions have becn known for years.
B. It can be expanded by using VR headsets.
C. It can directly affect one’s navigational skills.
D. Its size depends on that of ones memory center.
【4】From Chan’s words, we can know ________.
A. he will spread the new drug
B. he will try out the drug
C. the study helps to prevent dementia
D. the study still needs to be improved
28、 In April 2015, UK journalist Rebecca Atkinson, along with other parents of children with disabilities started the campaign(活动) Toy Likeme to solve the lack of various toys for children with disabilities. They created a Facebook page where everyone was able to post ideas and pictures about what toys for children with disabilities should look like.
Even though the campaign attracted a lot of attention, these parents couldn't rest until their ideas actually became real. Luckily, only 2 weeks after the campaign started, the people who started the campaign got in touch with a company in the UK that designs toys through 3D printing, and the company agreed to create a new series of dolls. That's when the first toys with disabilities were produced.
There are around 150 million children with disabilities, and even though the toy industry is worth over S2.9 billion, it has completely failed to create toys that are fitter for them. Until recently, that is. Thanks to this campaign that has taken the Internet by storm, many toy companies have answered this calling and have made toys specifically for children with disabilities.
Soon enough, the Toylikeme campaign on Facebook and Twitter finally reached the big companies like Lego, and now there is an entire series of toys with disabilities that have been sold worldwide.
Even after all the success this campaign has had, Toy Likeme gets on with its task. The organization has followers in over 45 countries and has received to continuously influence the global toy industry and hopefully make kids with disabilities all around the world feel accepted and appreciated.

A.It makes disabled kids have more confidence
B.It gives away toys to children with disabilities
C.It makes disabled kids have various toys to play with

【2】What does Paragraph 3 mainly show?
A.There’s a growing need for helping disabled kids
B.Many toy companies are responding to the calling
C.There's a growing need for more toy companies
D.Children are fond of playing with various toys
【3】What can be inferred about Toy Likeme in the last paragraph?

C.It has been popular with disabled kids.
D.It will care for other needs of disabled kids.

34、根据句意填空
In the USA, the Amish-a Christian group-are famous because they drive 【1】 instead of cars, do not use TVs or refrigerators, and do not have personal telephones. Many people assume the Amish must have 【2】 reasons for their many rules, but this is not true. In truth, whenever a new technology is introduced, the Amish meet and discuss its advantages and disadvantages. They then vote on whether they will accept it. The Amish 【3】 cars because they like having 【4】 communities where everyone lives close together. They have no TVs or refrigerators because their homes do not have electricity-they do not think it is necessary and 【5】 dealing with strangers, such as the people who work at the electric company.
35、阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的内容(1个单词)或括号内单词的正确形式。
Smell the flowers before you go to sleep and you may just end up with rosy dreams. Have a whiff of rotten(腐烂的)eggs during the night and your dreams may be【1】(pleasant). So says researcher Dr. Boris Stuck, 【2】invited sleeping volunteers to a rose vs. rotten egg test in the University Hospital Mannheim in Germany. The subjects didn’t dream about roses【3】eggs, but rather he found that what they smelt affected the emotions of【4】(they) dreams.
And if you think【5】(smell) have a say in dreams, wait for what TV tells us. A UK study reveals that people exposed【6】black-and-white film and TV in their youth are to have monochromic(单色的)dreams throughout their life more【7】(probable). 36、
Rapidly advancing technology and its impact on education has been a subject of debate. How can schools equip students with the skills they need to succeed in a challenging job market?
Since technology is driving these changes, there is a theory that governments should keep focusing on STEM subjects. These are often referred to as “hard skills,” which are 【1】 in primary school and right through to university level. In the meantime, ‘soft skills’ are being 【2】.
This is a mistake. Much evidence suggests that soft skills are far more 【3】 to graduates in the long term. Research from Harvard University on the global job market has shown that STEM- related careers grew strongly between 1989 and 2000 but have slowed down since. In contrast, jobs in the creative industries----the sector probably most 【4】 with the need for soft skills---are growing rapidly. Soft skills are, in fact, increasingly in demand in the workplace: Google cites creativity, leadership 【5】 and communication skills as top requirements for both potential and current employees.
So why are soft skills so highly 【6】 for?
With the rapid evolution of technology, a focus on hard skills leaves students 【7】 to change, as these often have a short shelf life. According to research by World Economic Forum, more than one in four adults reports a mismatch between their skills and those needed for their job role. If soft skills are taught well, these skills should enable students to adapt to change more easily and progress further in their 【8】 career.
Of course, technical skills are important. But without the curriculum placing equal--- if not greater --- 【9】 on soft skills, our education systems are missing a huge trick. Hard skills may help a student get a job in a particular industry, but soft skills will help them disrupt it, achieving a wider 【10】 in their chosen field.
37、Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word. For the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.
My daughter
(A story told by a father, a famous actor)
My wife and I only had the one child. We had Amy.
I see her as my best friend. I think she’d always come to me first if she had a problem. We have the same sense of humor, and share interests. 【1】 I don’t mind animals, she’s completely fascinated with them, and she has always had dogs, cats, horses, and goldfish in her life.
We were 【2】 (close) when she was about four, which I think is a lovely age for a child. They know the parents best, and don’t have outside contacts. She must have grown up suddenly when she went to school, because I remember her growing away from her family slightly. Any father who has a teenager daughter comes across an extraordinary collection of people, and there seemed to be an endless stream of strange young men 【3】 (come) through our house. By the time I learned their names they 【4】 (go) away and I had to start learning a new lot.
I wanted more than anything else for her to be happy in 【5】 she was doing, and I was prepared to pull strings to help her on her way. When she left a good school she decided she wanted to become an actress so I got her into drama school. It wasn’t to her liking so she joined a theatre group and began doing bits and pieces in films. She was doing well, but then gave it up. She probably found it boring. Then she took up social work, and finally went to work 【6】a designer and he became her husband. And that’s really the story of her life. She must be happy with him—they’re always together.
We have such similar tastes in books and music 【7】 I used to take her to see an opera, which is my big passion. However, I don’t think she likes it very much. She doesn’t come with me anymore.
I don’t think she’s a big television watcher. She knows when I’m on the television, and she 【8】 watch, but I don’t know. It’s not the kind of thing she tells me.
We’re very grateful for Amy. She’s a good daughter as daughters go. We’re looking forward to being grandparents.
