26、 Technology is constantly evolving, and it's essential to stay up to date with the top trends(趋势) in senior living, one of which is wearables that can be worn on or around some part of our body, such as a smart watch. It is technology that individuals can feel, touch, and use everyday. Wearables can provide a great health benefit for seniors, with the ability to monitor their vital signs(生命特征) or help predict when a fall or other adverse health incident may occur. Research conducted by the National Institute of Health has shown an increase in the risk of falling when seniors don't get adequate amounts of sleep. Being able to monitor specific risk factors in residents(住户) can help reduce accidents and maintain safety.
The second top technology trend in senior living is devices and applications. Often when older adults move into a senior living community, they may feel as if control over their own life is being taken away. Devices that are put in the resident's care can improve their quality of life by giving them some power back and can also help monitor their health levels. Some examples of such devices are tablets, smartphones, and lighting systems. Specific applications that work with devices can help residents, even those with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia(痴呆)accomplish daily tasks and play games. A new app named Timeless will enable(使能够) residents to test memory with images of loved ones.
The third top technology trend is telemedicine, which can help improve old people's health. Telemedicine gives healthcare professionals the opportunity to educate multiple seniors through video conferences. With physicians available through video conferences, seniors can be saved from making the effort of physically going to a doctor's office, and thus reduce the risk of getting certain illnesses caused by exposure to bad weather.
The fourth top technology trend is voice activation(激活) . Many different types of technology are more commonly activated by voice commands. These can be very beneficial and create case of use for any resident using it. Senior scan conserve their energy when they are sick or just tired with lights that can be activated with certain commands. With voice-activated devices such as Amazon Alexa, a resident can control TV volume, music volume, and countless other in-home devices. This also gives residents a sense of control when they move to an assisted living community.
Finally, technology integration(集成) is also a top trend in technology for senior living. Each of the previous categories can improve lives, but when they are combined, the greatest benefits can be obtained. With a resident’s wristband(腕带) monitoring vital signs and sleep patterns combined with devices that monitor movement, such as room sensors, it can provide much needed data for providers to help prevent accidents and ensure quick response during emergencies
【1】.How can seniors benefit from wearables?

B.By being combined together.
C.By being made more user-friendly.
D.By being activated through voice commands.
27、The bad health effects of sleep loss during the week can’t be repaid by longer weekend sleep, according to a new study.
Researchers have long known that sleep deprivation (剥夺) can cause weight gain and increase other health risks. But for those who force themselves out of bed every weekday after too few hours of shut eye, they hope turning off the alarm on Saturday and Sunday will repay the weekly sleep debt and remove any ill effects.
The research, published in Current Biology, crushes those hopes. Despite complete freedom to sleep during a weekend recovery period, people in a sleep lab who were limited to five hours of sleep on weekdays gained nearly three pounds over two weeks and experienced disorders that would increase their risk for diabetes over the long term. While weekend recovery sleep had some benefits after a single week of sleep loss, those gains were wiped out when people fell right back into their same sleep deprived schedule the next Monday.
'If there are benefits of catch-up sleep, they're gone when you go back to your daily schedule. It's very short lived', said Kenneth Wright, director of the sleep and chronobiology lab at the University of Colorado at Boulder. 'These health effects are long term. It's kind of like smoking once was-people would smoke and wouldn't see an immediate effect on their health, but people will say now that smoking is not a healthy lifestyle choice. I think sleep is in the early stage of where smoking used to be.'
Wright said that the study suggests people should put sleep in the first place cutting out the 'sleep stealers' such as watching television shows or spending time on their phones. Even when people don't have a choice about losing sleep because of child-care responsibilities or job schedules, they should think about getting sleep in the same way they would get a healthy diet or exercise.
【1】What does the underlined word 'rushes' mean?
A.Ruins.
B.Guarantees.

A.Take regular exercise every day.
B.Reduce the screen time before sleep.
C.Watch some TV shows before bedtime.
D.Sleep as long as possible during weekdays.

28、How Arts Contribute to Our Economy
When it comes to arts, most people tend to imagine the end product, beautiful paintings, wonderful pieces of music, or award-winning performances in the theater. But arts groups bring broader value to communities. 【1】.
The arts create jobs that help develop the economy. Any given performance takes a tour bus full of artists, technical experts, managers, musicians, or writers to create an appealing piece of art.【2】. Another group of folks is needed to help market the event. Digital media experts, photographers, booking agents and promoters(推广者) are hired to sell tickets and promote the event.
【3】. Here is an example. In 2005, when the Bishop Arts Theatre was donated to a town in Dallas, the location was considered a poor area. After putting more than $1 million in reconstructing the building, they began producing a full season of theater performances, jazz concerts, and year-round arts education programs. Soon, waves of jazz lovers flooded in to enjoy an evening. Then, came a series of work force outside the arts industry, including accountants, marketers, hotel managers, printers, and other kinds of workers. 【4】.
Definitely, arts are efficient economic drivers when supported. It’s wrong to have prejudice against majors in art and assume arts groups cannot make a profit. But to stay in business, arts groups must produce returns. 【5】. But those who truly understand the economic effect and can work to change the patterns can create a wide range of career possibilities.
A.Here are some tips on how to achieve profits in the arts.
B.Here are some ways in which the arts benefit our economy.
C.A successful arts neighborhood creates a chain effect throughout a community.
D.These people earn a living income for their professional knowledge and skills.
E.No doubt the theater has contributed to the area’s development and economic growth.
F.To be major in the arts, you need to have an understanding of the brilliant potential of your choice.
G.If you are a student considering taking up the arts, chances are you have been ill-advised to have a plan B.

On a broiling afternoon when the men were away at work and all the women napped, I moved through majestic depths of silences, silences so immense I could hear the corn 【1】. Under these silences there was a / an orchestra of natural music playing notes no city child would ever hear. A certain cackle from the henhouse meant we had gained an egg. The creak of a porch swing told of a momentary breeze blowing across my grandmother’s yard. As I 【2】 along a mossy bank to surprise a frog, a 【3】splash told me the quarry had spotted me and slipped into the stream. Wandering among the sleeping houses, I learned that tin roofs crackle under the power of the sun, and when I tired and came back to my grandmother’s house, I padded into her dark cool living room, lay 【4】 on the floor, and listened to the hypnotic beat of her pendulum clock on the wall ticking the meaningless hours away.
I was enjoying the luxuries of a rustic nineteenth-century boyhood, but for the women Morrisonville life had few 【5】. Their lives were hard, endless, dirty labor.
For baths, laundry, and dishwashing, they hauled buckets of water from a spring at the foot of a hill. To heat it, they chopped kindling to fire their wood stoves. THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
In Congress, July 4, 1776
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s god entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should d【1】 the causes which impel them to the separation.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience has shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. Tablets are really useful devices, but their big screens always make them a burden to carry around without a bag. Wouldn’t it be great if there were a phone with the powers of a tablet that could be folded up and fit 【1】 into the hand?
Now something like a tablet-shaped but fold-able phone is about to become 【2】. In February, South Korean electronics company Samsung and China’s Huawei both unveiled fold-able phones Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X 【3】. Mobile phone use has entered the “fold-able future”, The Verge noted.
The technology could change our lives in significant ways. These devices, due to their 【4】 screens, give us the larger screens we want. Meanwhile, they still fit easily into the pocket. As USA Today noted, they’re “the 【5】 of a small tablets and smart-phone, all in a single device”.
The technology could 【6】 other devices too. For example, we could make TVs that stick to walls like posters, or fold up easily to hide away in drawers. In crowded modem cities, they will help us to 【7】 available space.
In a keynote address, Samsung’s senior vice president of mobile product marketing, Justin Denison, called the fold-able screen “the 【8】 for the smart-phone of tomorrow.” “It’s a balank canvas for us to do something beautiful together,” he said.
So is there nothing to stand in the way of the fold-able future?
According to tech news website Android authority, the necessary displays were difficult to produce. In 2012, nine out of every to OLED screens produced were 【9】. Today, that 10 percent rate has been improved to between 50 and 90 percent. However, at present these fold-able devices are expensive. For example, the price of Huawei Mate X is 17,500 RMB. That’s a price that may 【10】 the majority of people.
But if the fold-able device isn’t going to change the world overnight, there is no doubt that it is coming.
Patrick Moor-head, an industry analyst told The Verge, “Few are debating if fold-able or roll-able mobile displays are the future of smart-phones; the only question is when and by whom.”

“I don’t regret accepting this challenge,”said Lee.“I am in shock, I admit that, but what’s done is done. I enjoyed this game and look forward to the next. 41、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Last Saturday, when I was checking out at the grocery store, the woman in front of me caught my attention. She was in a red coat and had long hair. She was pushing one shopping cart with a basket in front. The basket held just a few items:corm, a lot of bread, some canned goods and a bunch of gorgeous colored roses. Several times when I was looking at her, I caught her looking at those lovely roses and smiling. I thought she must like roses very much. Therefore, I commented that those roses were, indeed, very lovely and beautiful. She said, “Roses are my favorite flowers, and I really do love them.”
Then, when I was waiting to bill my items, I heard the woman say to the cashier, “Em…, you can put those roses back, because I really can’t afford them now. I don’t have enough money.”
On hearing that, I asked her if she allowed me to buy them for her. She shook her head and said, “Why would you want to do that? You certainly don’t have to.” I replied that I just wanted to give her “a special thing” because she loved them so much. However, she still seemed hesitant. Then I told her that she would be doing me a great kindness if she allowed me to gift them to her. With tears in her eyes, she agreed and said, “I really do love them. Thank you very much.”
The moment I handed the cashier the money for the roses, I noticed he was a little teary too. As I said goodbye to him and began to walk away, I found the woman holding the roses and staring at me at the gate.
