二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   You’re chatting with friends on the phone, but you can’t help browsing through shopping websites in the meantime. You’re having lunch alone in the canteen, but it only feels right when you start playing a show on your phone – as if it’s a necessary “side dish”.

We’re now living in a world that bombards us with information. It seems unnatural to do only one thing at a time. It’s as if we’re all suffering from what a recent daily article called “multitasking OCD (多任务强迫症)”.

“With news reduced to 140 characters and communication increasingly by emojis (表情符号), we have developed the ability to focus our attention on several activities and devices at once,” Sabry Otmani, founder of Pulpix website, once wrote. “We need lots of stimuli to keep us interested and to fight off boredom.”

But perhaps “fighting off boredom” is not the only reason.

My own obsession with multitasking mainly comes from the fact that everyone around me seems to be constantly studying. Each minute I’m not taking in something new feels like a waste of time. So I always have my headphones on, whether I’m commuting, exercising or walking in the park. I’m forever listening to something – a course on classical music, or on new media management, and heaven knows what else – just so I can keep up with the world.

People who can’t stay away from social media are known by “FOMO” (fear of missing out): They have to be constantly updated about what their friends are doing and saying. But I’d guess that “FOFO” better describes me – “fear of falling out”.

No matter what reason you’re doing it for, “multitasking” is already a part of the modern lifestyle. Just make sure you make the most out of it.

1With the examples in the first paragraph, the author intends to ______.

A.explain what “multitasking OCD” is like

B.show how busy today’s life is

C.show that people today often feel lost

D.tell readers that people like comparing themselves with each other

2Why do people today like multitasking, in Sabry Otmani’s opinion?

A.It can help them to communicate their ideas.

B.It can prevent them from being bored.

C.They lack the patience to finish one thing at a time.

D.They are more able than the past generations.

3The underlined word “obsession” is closest in meaning to “_____”.

    A.interest B.knowledge

    C.understanding D.worry

4Why is the writer crazy about multitasking?

A.She thinks it is boring to do one thing at a time.

B.She wants to stay ahead of her friends.

C.She wants to have something to show off.

D.She doesn’t want to get left behind by others.

  • 27、How to get rid of back-to-school stress

Get organized by visiting the school and meeting the teachers.

It’s great because you get an idea of what the school year will be like and for the rest of the term, whenever your child talks to you about school you can place a face with the name.

    Get the teacher’s e-mail address.

This is how most of the schools communicate in today’s society. In addition, ask for a contact number. It will be very useful in case you have a question about anything at all.

Know bus stop routes and bus stop rules.

If your child is riding the bus, don’t forget to walk with them to the bus stop and describe what type of behavior the school expects of your child at the bus stop and on the bus. If your child is not at least in the fourth grade, you may want to stay there until the bus comes. After the age of 10, he is not going to want you there. Never leave your child at the bus stop alone. Make sure other children are there.

Make plans for a tutor right away.

If you know your child will need a tutor, ask the teacher if she is available for tutoring. If she does not offer tutoring, ask for recommendations. Don’t wait until your child is falling behind others. Private tutors are still the best in my book. They are not at all as expensive as most of the learning centers, especially if it is a retired teacher.

【1】What’s the most common way to communicate with the teacher?

    A.Going to school in person.

    B.Talking on the telephone.

C.Sending a message on the Internet.

D.Passing on messages by your child.

【2】You must stay with your child at the bus stop if ________.

    A.the bus doesn’t arrive

    B.no other pupils are there

    C.your child asks you to

    D.your child is under 10

【3】What can we learn from the text ?

A.Don’t wait until the last minute to find a tutor for your children.

B.Children are sure to be safe after the age of 10.

C.The teachers are organized for you to meet.

D.Your call to the teacher will not be answered.

  • 28、Eudaimonia is an Ancient Greek word, particularly stressed by the philosophers Plato and Aristotle, which deserves far more attention than it has because it corrects the shortfalls (缺失)in one of the most central, but troubling words in our modem language: happiness.

When we nowadays try to clearly express the purpose of our lives,it is the word “happiness” that we commonly turn to. We tell ourselves and others that the most important principle for our jobs, our relationships and the conduct of our day-to-day lives is the pursuit of happiness. It sounds like an innocent enough idea, but too much reliance on the term means that we frequently unfairly tend to quit or, at least, heavily question a great many challenging but worthwhile situations. The Ancient Greeks did not believe that the purpose of life was to be happy; they proposed that it was to achieve Eudaimonia, a word which has been best translated as “fulfilment”.

What distinguishes happiness from fulfilment is pain. It is very possible to be fulfilled and—at the same time—under pressure, suffering physically or mentally, overburdened and, quite frequently, in an irritable (易怒的)mood. This is a slight psychological difference that is hard for the word “happiness” to capture, for it’s tricky to speak of being happy yet unhappy, or happy yet suffering. However, such a combination is readily accommodated within the respected and noble-sounding idea of Eudaimonia.

The word encourages us to trust that many of life’s most worthwhile projects will sometimes be in conflict with contentment, and yet will be worth pursuing. Properly exploring our professional talents, managing a household, keeping a relationship going, creating a new business venture or engaging in politics... none of these goals are likely to leave us cheerful and grinning on a daily basis. They will, in fact, involve us in all manner of challenges that will deeply exhaust and weaken us, provoke (激怒)and wound us. And yet we will perhaps, at the end of our lives, still feel that the tasks were worth undertaking. Through them, we’ll have achieved something deeper and more interesting than happiness.

With the word Eudaimonia in mind, we can stop imagining that we are aiming for a pain-free existence—and then blaming ourselves unfairly for being in a bad mood. We’ll know that we are trying to do something far more important than smile all the time: we're striving to do justice to our full human potential.

【1】What do we know about “Eudaimonia” from the passage?

A.It was first created by two Greek philosophers.

B.It has received a lot of attention from the public.

C.It still has some shortfalls that need to be corrected.

D.It was regarded as the purpose of life in ancient Greece.

    【2】According to Paragraph 3, happiness .

    A.is the opposite of fulfillment

B.is free from physical or mental pain

    C.stresses the psychological difference

D.serves as a respected and noble life goal

【3】We can learn from the passage that .

A.aiming for happiness may lead to wrong self-blaming

B.goals that wound and weaken us result in happiness

C.challenges leading to contentment are worth undertaking

D.feeling fulfilled means we should avoid tough situations

【4】The passage encourages the readers to .

    A.find fulfillment with all efforts

    B.seek for a pain-free existence

    C.keep optimistic whatever happens

    D.balance happiness and suffering

  • 29、The Kyiv City Ballet danced to a full theater in Paris for the company’s last show of its French tour. The tour has left the dancers without a place to go after the war started in Ukraine. In other times, performing at the Théatre du Chatelet would be a dream come true for the dancers. But with the ongoing war in their country, the dancers feel only a deep sadness.

“We are both physically and emotionally exhausted.” Ekaterina Kozlova said. She is the company’s assistant director. “Everyone in the ballet is worried about their families, loved ones, friends, colleagues at home. It’s been very difficult.”

The Théatre du Chatelet, in the center of Paris, offered them the stage on Tuesday for the group’s final show of a French tour. The dance director of the Paris Opera and some members of her company joined the Ukrainians for a class before performing several ballet classics together. They danced parts of Russian composer Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and The Nutcrackery.

For many of the dancers, the chance to train and dance was a way to think about “something other than the conflict in Ukraine,” Kozlova said. One of the dancers will be going to the Ukrainian border in the coming days to pick up her young daughter who was taken out of the country. Only some members of the company were traveling around France. Many of the ballet’s best dancers stayed behind, waiting to join their friends after they reached Paris.

“Most of our artists are detained in Paris.” Director Ivan Kozlova told the Paris crowd. The city of Paris and the ballet community have helped find temporary housing for the Ukrainian dancers who say they hope to continue dancing in France and elsewhere. The Chatelet theater offered the whole group a residency. But for now, Tuesday’s last-minute performance was their last. All sales from their performances will go to nongovernmental organizations collecting and sending humanitarian aid to Ukraine and neighboring countries.

【1】What would the dancers feel about performing at the Théatre du Chatelet before the war?

    A.Pleased.

    B.Indifferent.

    C.Sorrowful.

    D.Sympathetic.

【2】What do we know about the Ukrainian dancers?

    A.They would leave Paris soon.

    B.They would prevent the conflict.

C.Many best dancers stayed in Paris.

D.Some would go to the Ukrainian border.

【3】What does the underlined word “detained” in Paragraph 5 mean?

    A.Arrested.

    B.Stuck.

    C.Promoted.

    D.Educated.

【4】Which of the following words can best describe the dancers?

    A.Enthusiastic and kind.

  • 34、Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word. For the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.

    My daughter

(A story told by a father, a famous actor)

My wife and I only had the one child. We had Amy.

I see her as my best friend. I think she’d always come to me first if she had a problem. We have the same sense of humor, and share interests. 1 I don’t mind animals, she’s completely fascinated with them, and she has always had dogs, cats, horses, and goldfish in her life.

We were 2 (close) when she was about four, which I think is a lovely age for a child. They know the parents best, and don’t have outside contacts. She must have grown up suddenly when she went to school, because I remember her growing away from her family slightly. Any father who has a teenager daughter comes across an extraordinary collection of people, and there seemed to be an endless stream of strange young men 3 (come) through our house. By the time I learned their names they 4 (go) away and I had to start learning a new lot.

I wanted more than anything else for her to be happy in 5 she was doing, and I was prepared to pull strings to help her on her way. When she left a good school she decided she wanted to become an actress so I got her into drama school. It wasn’t to her liking so she joined a theatre group and began doing bits and pieces in films. She was doing well, but then gave it up. She probably found it boring. Then she took up social work, and finally went to work 6a designer and he became her husband. And that’s really the story of her life. She must be happy with him—they’re always together.

We have such similar tastes in books and music 7 I used to take her to see an opera, which is my big passion. However, I don’t think she likes it very much. She doesn’t come with me anymore.

I don’t think she’s a big television watcher. She knows when I’m on the television, and she 8 watch, but I don’t know. It’s not the kind of thing she tells me.

We’re very grateful for Amy. She’s a good daughter as daughters go. We’re looking forward to being grandparents.

The result? Under 5% of the dreams of the under-25s were in black and white. 10(watch)color TV in childhood seems to be the reason why.

Robert and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day Robert and Henry were going home from school when Robert cried out, "A fight! Let’s go and see!"

"No," said Henry. "Let us go home quietly and not meddle with(干涉) this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also my parents are expecting to have dinner with me together at home and I don’t want them to worry about me."

"You are a coward," said Robert, and off he ran. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual.

But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn’t want to play with him together.

Henry was sad but he wasn’t angry with Robert for his rude behavior, because he learned that true courage is shown most in bearing misunderstanding and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys’ sneer(嘲笑) and continued to go to school and study as usual. However, Robert didn’t invite Henry to go home with him any more. Instead, he enjoyed playing with some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn’t go home directly but went to a river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.

A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled, and screamed for help, but all in vain. The boys who called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, and they did not even try to help him.
