21、 A company in San Francisco, California, has found a way to turn used plastic bottles into women’s shoes.
Every day, millions of Americans drink water and other liquids from plastic bottles. More than 60 million of them are thrown away each day. Many of the plastic bottles end up in landfills or are burned with other waste products.
A San Francisco start-up company called Rothy's, however, turns this plastic waste into environmentally friendly shoes. Roth Martin is the company’s co-founder. He explains how ihey turn plastic into soft material for women’s feet. They take the plastic, clean it, and break it down into small pieces. Then they press them through a device that makes soft fibers. Those fibers arc then combined together. This is done by a 3D machine. It is designed to reduce waste while making the shoes. The knitted stuff and the inner part of the shoe arc then attached to the shoe’s outer part, called the sole (鞋底).This outer sole is also made from environmentally friendly material: responsibly sourced no-carbon rubber.
Rolhy’s shoes are sold online. They are flat shoes, with either a rounded or pointed toe. They come in different colors and designs. They cost either $ 125 or $ 145 per pair, depending on the design. After American actress Gwyneth Paltrow discovered them last year, the demand for the shoes grew. Martin says there is no shortage of material to fill that demand. “We’re not going to run out of water bottles any time soon. So we have a limitless supply of material, and I think that is a good sign for our future." When the environmentally friendly shoes wear out, customers can return them at no cost to a company that uses the recycled material to make other products.
For now, the shoes are only available to be shipped in the United States. However, the company says it will add international shipping in the near future.

23、Face-book chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg and Anna Maria Chavez, chief of American Girl Scouts, are leading a campaign to discourage the use of the word "bossy". Does the term destroy the confidence of young girls?
The campaign claims that terms like "bossy" are improperly applied to females, preventing schoolgirls from seeing themselves as future "leaders". From its first application, the word has been definitely connected more with women than with men. It first appeared in 1882, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, mentioning "a lady manager who was extremely bossy". As late as 2008, the word appeared in reference to females four times more often than males, claim the Ban Bossy campaigners. "To me, the reference is always in association with women," says Helen Trim, director of Fresh Minds. "I have three brothers and my family still call me 'bossy' today. " Her father is the only other family member who could be considered in that way, says Trim, but nobody would ever call him so.
Some educators recommend that the word should be reclaimed, rather than banned. "But the thing with 'bossy' is that there’s an infantile(幼稚的) element to it, says Sara Mills, professor at Sheffield University. "You think of ' bossy 'as being like a little kid who's claiming more than he has the right to claim. "
It's not just "bossy"under fire. "Pushy" is another target. The implication is that women shouldn't present themselves as powerful and confident, Mills suggests, which some women are willing to listen to and accept. Trim points out that many modern female business role models are able to be bosses without being labeled 'bossy'. And she rarely, if ever, hears the word used within her company. But she says that the damage may be done much earlier in a woman's life. "It does come about from those early teenage years. "she says. "I think it’s impossible to ban a word, but if people are replacing it with words like 'confidence' or ‘assertiveness', we would all be in a much better place. "

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In late December, the cow path near our house in Tennessee was still covered with leaves, but I knew snow would be falling soon enough. My younger brother, Buddy Earl, and I were on an important mission: Go to Uncle Tommie’s place and get a goose(鹅). The hiking over Little Mountain and getting there would be worth it. Uncle Tommie raised the best geese around, and he’d offered to give us one for Christmas dinner.
Uncle Tommie met us at the door. “I’m not rushing you boys,” he said, “but as light snow started, you’d better get the goose and head home.” It didn’t take me long to pick up a goose from his yard. Buddy and I said a quick thank you and goodbye. The snow came down harder, wind blowing every way.
“I’m as cold as ice. How about you?” asked Buddy.
I tapped the goose’s head. “I wish we had feathers to keep us warm like you,” I said. “Or heavier coats.”
“Doug, I’m freezing,” Buddy said. I could hardly hear him over the wind and my own chattering teeth. “I think we should go back.” The idea was attractive, but we were closer to home than to Uncle Tommie’s house. We had to push on.
I held the goose closer to my chest. The bird was the only warm thing about me. I stepped in front of my brother. “Buddy, open your coat!” “Are you crazy?” He asked. “I’ll lose the little warmth I have.” When he saw I was serious, he slowly unzipped (拉开……的拉链) his coat and opened it. I placed the warm goose inside his coat and zipped it back up. “Make sure you keep the goose’s head out so it can breathe.” Buddy sighed happily. My plan was working.
注意:1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“Doug, it is time for you to open your coat. ”
