21、Before every show, Beyonce listens to the same playlist, performs stretches, and meditates (冥想) for precisely one hour. This is part of her per-performance ritual (仪式) .
Rituals help to structure our lives. People perform group rituals that mark significant social events and stages such as singing at birthday parties and celebrating at weddings. Individuals also have personalized rituals that help to organize their days, such as getting that morning cup of juice, performing a bedtime routine, or stretching before going on stage.
Research shows that rituals can help us enjoy experiences. Researchers from the University of Minnesota and Harvard found that enacting a ritual enhanced how much people enjoyed eating chocolate. Before having participants eat a chocolate bar, the researchers asked participants to perform a ritual by breaking the chocolate bar in half without removing the wrapper, then unwrapping only half of the bar and eating it, and finally unwrapping the other half and eating it. Compared to people who simply relaxed before eating the chocolate, those who had performed the ritual reported that the chocolate was more flavorful. Rituals appear to heighten how involved we are in our experiences.
Rituals can also help reduce anxiety and improve performance. In a 2020 study, researchers asked participants to engage in a task of singing a popular song in front of an experimenter, aiming to cause anxiety. Before singing, some participants just sat quietly while they waited, but others were asked to perform a ritual. The results showed that compared to participants who had sat quietly before singing, those who performed the ritual reported being less anxious and sang the song more accurately using the correct volume, key, and note duration. If you think Beyoncé performs well at her concerts, maybe her ritual has something to do with it.
We can include rituals into countless aspects of our lives. We can light a candle at the end of the workday to improve how much we enjoy our leisure time. We can regularly visit locations that are special to us to de-stress and feel more in control. We can meditate before important tasks to reduce our anxiety and improve our performance. The choice is ours.

22、 Litterati is an app that people can use to upload information about litter they collect outside, such as its appearance, material, location, and brand. Shared online, this information contributes to building a global database of "litter maps", which can influence policy and packaging design.
"Society's failure to solve the litter problem has not been from a lack of trying. There have been public service announcements, and coastal cleanups. But I believe two components are missing from the discussion—community and data," said Jeff Kirschner, the developer of Litterati app.
Uploading pictures to an app shows users that they’re not the only ones picking up litter from public places and that others are invested in cleaning the planet, too. And the data accumulates rapidly, telling a story that helps people understand who picked up what, where, and when. In this way, people are encouraged to do more.
In San Francisco, the Litterati app was able to identify and map more than 5,000 pieces of litter in order to determine how much was caused by cigarettes specifically. Using this information the city successfully challenged a lawsuit by tobacco companies and doubled an existing cigarette sales tax, bringing in US $4 million annual revenue(税收).
By joining forces with others using the same platform, individuals are able to take their anti-litter activism to another level. The power of combined data leads to more Extended Producer Responsibility, which is precisely what we want and advocate here—producers are forced to be responsible for dealing with their own products once consumers no longer find them useful and are incentivized to create more environmentally friendly packaging or better policies as a result of that new responsibility.
Litterati takes a refreshingly non-judgmental approach. It shows a positive we-can-do-it attitude. Just as Jef Kirschner said, "Our goal isn't to shame. It's to provide transparency to the problem. We provide access to data and share insights with cities, citizens and businesses, guiding us all to identify the root cause of the problem, and make informed decisions of how to clean the planet."
【1】What makes us fail to solve the litter problem according to Kirschner?
A.Lack of necessary data about litter.
B.The public's laziness in taking action
C.People's poor environmental awareness.
D.Absence of government publicity and support.
【2】Why are tobacco companies mentioned?
A.To show the influence of Litterati
B.To describe the details of the map
C.To warn people of the harm of cigarettes.
D.To prove the large consumption of tobacco.
【3】What does the underlined word "incentivized" in paragraph 5 most probably mean?
A.Allowed.
B.Appointed.

B.It makes litter problem transparent.
C.It can shame people into not littering.
D.It can guide people when they collect litter
23、 American Mark Levine wears many hats in China-educator, author, volunteer, musician, sociologist, cross-cultural communicator, winner of the Chinese government's Friendship Award, and most noticeably, wide-brimmed.
The bushy-bearded 73-year-old is perhaps best known among the Chinese public for writing American country music-style songs about China that he performs in full cowboy regalia. He often sings and plays his guitar to the accompaniment of the erhu played by his friend, Fu Han, in their musical duo, In Side Out. Levine has staged hundreds of performances in 15 provinces, and one had an audience over 50,000, he says.
Fu Han recalls he once performed in a well-known bar in Beijing's Houhai area, and she joined him on stage with her erhu. “A group of tourists from northern Europe came up and watched and filmed us, and started singing with us. I realized a Chinese instrument and face can help better tell China's stories to foreigners. So, they officially became band mates. I'm the 'in' and he's the 'out' in In Side Out,”she explains.
Levine plans to release a song book when he reaches 100 songs. He has so far written over 70 tunes that he calls "musical stories from my Chinese journey,, since he settled in Beijing in 2007 to take an occupation at Minzu University of China, where he still works, largely on account of its ethnic diversity.
Levine says two highlights during his time in the country have been winning the Friendship Award in 2014 and receiving his Chinese “green card” in 2016. Levine hopes it increases cross-cultural understanding. One of his friends says Levine is particularly apt for the task. “Mark is a perfect ambassador for humanity, so to speak, who has found his ideal place here,” he says.
【1】What can we learn from Levine's musical achievement?
A.He has released a book about his songs.
B.He has performed his songs all over China.
C.His biggest concert attracted nearly 50,000 audiences.
D.He combined American music style with Chinese stories.
【2】Why did he determine to work at Minzu University of China?
A.He desired to settle in Beijing.
B.He could win the Friendship Award.
C.He could be exposed to diverse cultures.
D.He could find more musical stories there.
【3】What's the meaning of the underlined word “apt” in the last paragraph?
A.Intelligent.
B.Suitable.
C.Reliable.
D.Enthusiastic.
【4】Which of the following can best describe Levine?
A.Devoted and outspoken.

24、 Upright farming is a hugely promising agricultural technique that aims to produce more food to meet the growing population on our limited planet. Techniques include growing in vertical frames (垂向框架) or even in high-rise farms while moving farms into urban areas, and producing nutritious crops without topsoil.
Vertical farmers plant crops in nutrient-rich water, so plants can be raised without soil. They also grow plants using water from fish tanks, or using nutrient water mist systems that reduce water use by more than 90 per cent, which was a technique developed by NASA as a way for astronauts to grow in space and feed themselves without soil while preserving precious water supplies. All of these soil-less growing techniques use less or no chemicals, and recycle water with less waste. Plants can be sown and harvested year-round, free from bad weather conditions such as drought or flooding.
“This is the farming of the future," said Paul Myers, co-founder of vertical farming enterprise Farm Urban. "Chemical-free and moving from the traditional horse and tractor agriculture that is steadily destroying the planet to a more sustainable approach."
The global vertical farming market is expected to be six times bigger in 2026 than it is today. This is fueled in part by rising demand for organic, chemical-free foods, but also by countries looking to increase their food security and cut down on imports — the UK for example uses more than 70 per cent of its land mass for agriculture but imports more than half of its food.
As the vertical farming industry expands, it is worth noting that it has limitations — it only works for some crops, and urban locations can be expensive.
【1】Where will upright farming be popular in the future?
A.In cities.
B.In plains.
C.In deserts.
D.In the countryside.
【2】What do the techniques mentioned in paragraph 2 have in common?

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I must admit, I haven’t always liked animals. In fact, I distrusted them greatly while growing up, and I still fear the ones I don’t know personally. What set my beliefs in stone was being attacked—not once but many times, including the summer after second grade when I was bitten by a rabbit. Then, when I was nine and riding my dirt bike down the road, a large dog charged me and tried to bite my ankle. After all those negative experiences, there was one thing I knew for sure: All creatures, great and small, were no friends of mine.
After college in California, I returned to live the single life in Las Vega. Then I met Lisa. In no time at all, we fell in love, married and moved into a new house. Despite my avoidance of animals, Lisa had a dog called Bailey. Bailey didn’t like me, but he tolerated my existence once he realized I wasn’t going anywhere.
Things changed as spring came. We welcomed a new member of our family: our son Evan. One evening Evan grabbed hold of the dog’s tail. The irritated dog paused and turned to look at his stuck tail but waited patiently until being released. Still the stories I’d heard of animals attacking babies worries me.
Then my worst fear occurred. I sat on the couch (沙发) reading after a long day while my wife worked at the dining-room table paying the bills. I saw Evan crawl across the family-room carpet as he made his way behind the couch. One minute, all was quiet and then Bailey entered the room and headed to where Evan had crawled. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard the dog start a fearful barking behind me.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Throwing the book away, I rushed around the couch with great fear.
